StarsAndStripes
Pendeen 7 Mawnan 1(HT 3.O) A fair crowd in the era of CL televised games and some other important local football taking place.Only one team turned up for this semi final.A very subdued and flat Mawnan never got going and by the time they did the game was over.Pendeen started more aggressively won all the 50/50s and were better all round, more organised, more vocal and passed the ball around at the back confidently.A rash last ditch challenge gave away a penalty 1-0 after 8 mins. Then two identical headed goals from corners 3-0 by 25 mins.Only one team attacking the ball with any real intent. From then on it was really damage limitation for Mawnan and apart from the lively Luke Wort who lacked service and was having to drop deep to receive the ball and John Leach on the odd occasion he managed to forage into Rovers half the green and whites offered very little.Halftime strangely saw no changes from Mawnan and we continued in the same vein.Pendeen looking likely to score with each attack being thwarted on more than once by the impressive Dan Knowles who was playing at CH who’s commitment on the night wasn’t matched by a number of his team mates.4-0 became 5-0 and it was only then Mawnan ringed the changes with a quadruple substitution but it was too little too late.6-0.Then Mawnan score a consolation before Pendeen rounded off the scoring to make it 7-1 which must be one of the most emphatic and one sided semi finals between two sides hardly separated in the league.Mawnan travel to Pendeen in a league game this weekend and manager Wayne Hughes will surely ring the changes as he looks for a positive reaction from his players. M.O.M-Was the rapid No 7 right mid for Pendeen? who showed great fitness first touch and control which wouldn’t look out of place a couple of leagues higher Rovers10 and Dave Deacon
