Tom Trust
Good crowd at Illogan as well. Lots of WAGS of players and supporters brought along for the occasion (most busy with their smartphones these have replaced knitting), lots of kids unable to concentrate for five minutes never mind 90! Lots of familiar faces, too, the regulars engaged in a fiercely-contested match which for long periods could have swung either way.Tackles flew in on the wet surface - unimaginable 50 years ago at this point in the season - well done, the groundsman - and a match that I enjoyed more than many of the recent World Cup encounters. Illogan 4, Redruth Utd 1. 1 - 0 (35), then on 63 a pen to Illogan taken by 'keeper Barry Wyatt. He blasted it straight down the middle but the Redruth 'keeper must have know he would and saved brilliantly. At least Barry hit the target which is more than Kane did v France.... 2 - 0 from a FK (65), then a solo run from the right channel made it 2 - 1 (67) and you wondered if Utd would salvage something. strangely, it hardly raised any appreciation from the spectators. I'd expected Redruth to have had a bit more support on the day; and it was an o.g. from an Illogan FK that was the killer, though (72) and although for a while Illogan sat back and Utd might have made more of their chances, a header off a RW cross on 90 + 3 produce the final score-line that was a bit flattering to Illogan. Both 'keepers had made good saves during the game, esp. Hayles who early on prevented Illogan from falling behind. As I wrote earlier, could have gone either way for much of the time. The tea-hut (tea, coffee, hot choc and soup) and bar will have done good business this morning and good luck to them. Enjoyable game.
