Ludgvan 3 Redruth 5

Goals from:

Gemma Walsh

Anika Marr

Keri Green

Bren Rowe 2

Redruth came from behind twice in the match, after some great Ludgvan goals, showing incredible character in a match that could have gone either way.

Congratulations to Ludgvan for thier first competitive match in the CWFL. A great bunch, with some great quality. We look forward to meeting them again later in the season. Thank you for your hospitality after the match also.

Charlestown 3 - 3 Dropship

A classic “game of two halves” at St Mewan Park yesterday. Charlestown came out of the blocks very quickly - but for some excellent saves from Dropship’s keeper they could have already been two up before Amy Howles tapped-in their first at the near post on 8 minutes. Charlestown continued to dominate throughout the first half with Anna Wherry running onto a through ball to make it 2-0 on 27 minutes and Natalie Mallett adding a third 10 minutes later.

Dropship did have a few chances as the first half closed - and were perhaps unlucky with one very close offside call - but as the half time whistle blew it looked like all three points would be going to Charlestown. The Dropship bench had different ideas though and whatever was said during the break definitely worked. Dropship came out at the start of the second half as dominant as Charlestown were in the first. Three goals in 35 minutes from Charlotte Andrew (one) and Naomi Blight (a brace) set up a frantic finale with 10 minutes of end to end football but no further goals.

A fantastic advert for CWFL football, and both teams agreeing that sharing the points was the right result. A word of praise for referee Rodney Campbell too - didn’t just get all the on-field decisions right but also handled an off-field incident (nothing to be gained by describing it in any more detail here) both professionally and sensitively.
