Thanks Gary for keeping us up to date, can you confirm the prize money available for these games please, as the amounts we have been quoted seem to put the mens peninsula league prizemoney for winning the season long title in to the shade if £3,000 for winning one qualifying game is correct

Would be interesting to hear from fans of the teams concerned how they feel about these ties.

Chipping Sodbury vs Frampton was abandoned virtually on the final whistle yesterday (I haven’t been able to find out why) with Frampton 2-0 up. Given Chipping Sodbury’s very poor record so far this season St Austell will probably face Frampton one way or another - they’re doing OK in the South West Regional League Northern Division albeit they’ve only played two league games. I suspect St Austell will feel fairly confident about this one.

Stockwood are 6th in the South West Regional League Eastern Division so a step lower than Liskeard. Again, I suspect the Cornish team will fancy this one.

Exceptionally tough ties for both Saltash and Sticker though, both drawn against teams doing well two steps up in the Womens National League Division One South West. At least the ties are both at home.

(In answer to We Two’s question in the 3rd QR it’s £4,000 for the winner and £1,000 for the loser.)

BODMIN 2 - 5 SALTASH UNITED - FA Cup 2nd Qualifying round - Carter's Parc, Lanivet

Glorious sunshine was the first thing that wasn't expected on the first Sunday in October ... weather more akin to a summer's day!  And for the majority in the near-100 strong crowd, the second surprise perhaps was the hosts taking the lead after 10 minutes after a strong opening from the visitors; Gemma Philp (aka Farley) firing home for the lower league side against the favourites.

But the visitors didn't take long to reply, with Franklin picking up a lose ball to score from close range. Resolute defending from Bodmin kept things level, only for Champion to react quickest as the Bodmin keeper couldn't hold on to a long range shot to take a 2-1 lead.

But yet again Bodmin showed their resilience and doggedness to deny further goals, and deservedly equalised again with a 25 yard free-kick from Farley flew past the hapless keeper.   Half-time approaching, and perhaps 2-2 at the break would've given the home team belief of a possible upset.   But still celebrating the equaliser, Saltash quickly took advantage of a lapse of concentration and Maddy Leppard ran down the left flank to beat two defenders, whipping in a driving shot (cross?) that flew into the top right corner.

3-2 to Saltash at the break.

Shortly into the second half Saltash added a fourth, Ranachan running on to a through ball and slotting the ball underneath the onrushing Bodmin keeper.  And a volley from Friend from the edge of the box after a corner wrapped things up.

In Saltash's words "Bodmin were a credit to their club playing against a higher ranked team and never giving up, showing a strong determined team work ethic, with their Goalkeeper bravely deserving the player of the match for an outstanding performance".    And a memorable experience and great learning opportunity, especially for Bodmin's youngsters, including their 16 & 17 year olds in the centre of midfield and another 17 year old between the sticks!   But Saltash's physicality & higher division status deservedly prevailed.

Saltash now host Exeter City in the 3rd Qualifying Round on 23rd October.

Final mention to the 3 experienced officials who did an excellent job of keeping the game flowing throughout.

Scorers:-
Bodmin: Philp (s)
Saltash Utd: Franklin, Champion, Leppard, Ranachan & Friend

Officials:  Gary Cornish, Steve Tootle & Dave Sellars
Att: 96 (head count)

Liskeard, Cornwall’s sole survivors in the Women’s FA Cup, have been drawn away to Bishops Lydeard in the 1st Round Proper.

Shall be interested in what the club and their supporters think of the draw. I’m guessing that an away tie against a team from the same League wouldn’t have been top of the wish list.

On the positive side, it’s a great chance to progress given that today’s draw included teams from Tier 3.

Tie to be played on 13 November with £6,000 waiting for the winner.

Had a great day at Bishops Lydeard on Sunday .. club certainly pulled out all the stops to make it a great day! And the girls gave us a great game.  Next tie is certainly a big one with Oxford United deservedly sitting at the top of their league but will be a great day for the club!
