Barnstaple Match Report

Recommended Posts

It was not only the weather that was storm force on Tuesday night but the Tigers blew away Barnstaple in a 36 minute spell during the first half at Treyew Road to keep them on course for the title.

Dave Leonard made two changes from Saturdays team with Vercesi and Stamp replacing Martin and Watkins with a heavy schedule of six games and twelve days a large squad is needed to avoid burnout.

City played against the wind and soon found there stride as Stamp and Yetton both had efforts denied in the early exchanges, the midfield again looked very strong with Kevin Wills putting in another man of the match performance.

Truro took the lead on twenty minutes when Power made a strong run from his own half to play in Stamp with a sublime ball into his feet and the young striker raced on and scored with ease. The Tigers were now in top gear and two minutes later Wills and Yetton were denied by a double save from Thorne in the visitors goal.

The lead was increased on 32 minutes when Walker's cross was converted by Wills and just four minutes later Stamp scored his second of the game and within two minutes Yetton converted from the penalty spot to after Stamp had been brought down in the box to put the game out of Barnstaple's reach.

Although the second half could never eclipse the first half display City continued to play attractive football in very difficult conditions but were unable to add to their tally. Barnstaple did get a consolation goal on 75 minutes when Thorne converted from a free kick just outside City's penalty area.

Truro now have a double away day this weekend playing at Carne on Saturday and Radstock the day after, with Corsham and Dawlish playing each other this weekend City will be looking to take all six points to keep the pressure on.
