Bodmin Town

Recommended Posts

Any word on who will be in charge at Bodmin Town next season as they face up to life without Darren Gilbert and, just as importantly, have they managed to bring new faces in at committee level? There were dire warnings a few weeks ago about the club's very existence being under threat if new blood could not be found.

New era begins at Bodmin with Matt Hayden being announced as their new manager. Good luck to him, big shoes to fill.

Have they also managed to fill the chair and various committee roles created by the retirement of the previous long term volunteers?

Wonder what players he will bring to Bodmin wasn’t  excatly a great success at st blazey or callington.

Wonder if he was the first choice to take over at Bodmin, what the recruitment process was and if there were other applicants. It is one hell of a job taking over from Darren Gilbert, sounds like a huge rebuild coming up both on and off the pitch.

It would have been one hell of a job taking over from Darren Gilbert 4/5 years ago, but due to the lack of real success in the last few years, I believe Matt Hayden shouldn’t be under any pressure to succeed in his first season. He just needs to get a good organised settled side out most games, rather pursuing better players which have a tendency of letting you down one way or another, which Darren Gilbert would appear to have had to deal with over the last few years. I see this as a fresh start for Bodmin with nothing to lose, but much more to gain. Best of luck.

Spot on post, to be honest what Gilbey has achieved since becoming a manager will take a long time to be matched by any of the newer younger managers we’ve got around our top local clubs today, and it shouldn’t be compared, none of them should be put under any real pressure to achieve those figures and trophies that Gilbey accumulated in his tenure. Matt should be left to build his own squad/team which could understandably take a bit of time? There’s a lot of sleeping giants in Cornish football, the likes of Newquay, Penzance, St.Blazey, St.Austell etc have all had to endure harder times than their histories suggest and even Falmouth had some barren years and look where they are today! It didnt happen overnight for Westy, it took a lot of hard work on and off the pitch, same with Torpoint. We’ve got some good young managers around our top Cornish clubs at the moment so let’s give them some encouragement on here rather than scrutinising every bad result at the start of next season. Things take time sometimes and it’s a big commitment for those guys involved, juggling families and work with their love of football, 24 hours a day! Personally think it’ll be a really interesting league next season with the exceptional Falmouth side promoted the division will be a lot closer with Liskeard starting as obvious favourites, any other year they may have won it last season! Good luck to all those young managers out there, no doubt out there now trying to sign players before they’re snapped up! Never really stops for a manager does it!? Good luck to them all, I expect Reg at Camelford is only a phone call away for any of these young chaps wanting a bit of experience and advice of managing a club for 30 years!! 👏🏼👍

Great post Rappo. Something I took from the interviews in the end of season podcast, is that the managers of the Peninsula East and West champions, Andy Westgarth and Dean Cardew, both spoke of how they use their Dads as sounding boards. Shows the merit of having someone you know and trust, but who is a step or two removed from things, to use for a bit of advice or just to listen.
