St Blazey 1 (Slateford 43)

Launceston 1 (Hendrickson 90)

Reece Hendrickson's stoppage time strike saw the spoils shared under the lights at Blaise Park in a scrappy game, which was punctuated by heavy hail and gusty winds as the early effects of Storm Arwen were felt in mid-Cornwall.

Hendrickson was Johnny-on-the-spot to lash home a loose ball late in the piece to cancel out Blazey's opener - skipper Neil Slateford cooly dispatching his penalty after Liam Eddy was bundled over in the box three minutes before the break. Launceston themselves also had a chance from 12 yards earlier in the opening stanza but Ben Waters fired wide to spurn the visitors' opportunity to break the deadlock.

Blazey took time to settle into proceedings but playing with the wind at their backs, they deserved an interval advantage. After half-time, it was Launceston with Arwen on their side although they rarely threatened Jason Chapman at the other end until Hendrickson's goal. The Launceston leveller wasn't the only drama in time added on as both Kevin McCallion and Olly Brokenshire were denied by impressive visiting custodian Lewis Slade and those two passed up opportunities paved the way for one final visiting opportunity which they duly accepted.

Both teams came into the match on a hot streak of form with the hosts unbeaten in the league since mid-September, whilst Dan Hart's troops travelled west looking to secure a fourth consecutive league triumph. In their respective previous matches, Blazey picked up a useful point at ever improving Callington and Launceston edged out Sticker 1-0 at Pennygillam.

Blazey were boosted in the lead up to the match with the capture of Joe Cooper from Newquay as the exodus of playing personnel from Mount Wise continues apace. The former Falmouth Town skipper, who has also turned out for St Dennis and Penzance in the last 12 months, was named on the bench by home boss Phil Lafferty.

As expected, given the testing conditions, the opening exchanges were scrappy with Waters' weak effort easily gathered by Chapman and at the other end, Eddy's daisy cutter was fumbled by Slade and with the ball spinning towards goal, the Launceston custodian gathered at the second attempt.

The first real incident of note in either box led to Launceston passing up a glorious opportunity to take the lead. Brokenshire barged rangy midfielder Gareth Jones over in the box and merry whistler blower Nigel D'Arcy had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Waters, with 13 league goals to his name so far this term, sent Chapman the wrong way, but his effort missed the target by a considerable distance and the score remained 0-0.

This let off seemed to spark Blazey into life and they dominated the closing stages of the first half. Jordy Dingle's well struck effort crashed off the underside of Slade's bar before the former Helston and St Austell midfielder saw a second goal bound effort deflected wide. Eddy had a well-guided header clawed away by Slade before the home striker and Jones clashed accidentally in the Blazey box. Both players required treatment with Jones withdrawn immediately and Eddy not reappearing after the turnaround.

Although Eddy was clearly struggling, he was involved in Blazey's leveller before his withdrawal. Similar to the earlier penalty award, referee D'Arcy awarded a spot kick straight away as Eddy was felled. Slateford executed where Waters failed by placing his penalty firmly into the corner and Blazey went into the interval ahead.

After the break, visiting skipper Sam Clifton's cross caught the wind and deceived Chapman only for Issac Burdon to deny the former home midfielder a goal on his Blaise Park return. On the hour mark, Clifton was sent to the sin-bin for dissent and despite their numerical supremacy, Blazey couldn't find the second goal that would have surely secured all three points.

With time nearly up, Kyle Marks' low effort was kept out by Slade only for McCallion to poke the rebound wide. Two minutes into added time, Brokenshire's lung busting run from inside the centre circle drew another fine save from Slade. Launceston then won a free kick inside their own half and with the ball tossed forward in hope rather than expectation, Hendrickson picked up the scraps to draw the teams level.

Straight from the restart, D'Arcy brought proceedings to a halt with both teams sharing the spoils and both left to rue the opportunities they missed, which would have surely secured all three points.

St Blazey 1v1 Launceston. Att.103

First half was pretty good to watch. The second half was bloody awful. Stop start stop start. Launceston deserved a point. With the weather a decent crowd in what was a freezing cold evening. Two points dropped for St Blazey. Next up a trip to Penryn next Saturday.

Yep wasn’t  me who was sin binned . Gareth seems to have a vendetta against me 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

Haha! I called you Adam Waters on the radio yesterday so perhaps you're right!

In all seriousness, though, I hope the report was fair - despite the sin-binning error. My deteriorating eye sight makes evening games a struggle, even more so when its blowing a gale and hailing.
