RESULT - Tuesday 9 November 2021

Recommended Posts

Marjons needs to move away from that 4g, it's terrible place to go, surely it Doenst meet requirements for this standard? Teams always seem to struggle there though and marjons will pick up points agaisnt teams at home. So could turn out to be a good 3 points for torpoint.

Good result for crediton I see, just another result proving the Western league is not much of a step up. Should not be losing from being 3-1.

If it meets the FA standard then it’s fine for Step 6.

There’s a few clubs in the national league system now with plastic pitches- the most well known is St Helens Town in NWCL

Not saying having a 4g pitch that's the issue, it's the whole set up... Its basically a school astro that's always played on so its not in the best condition anymore, not to mention all the other colourful lines for different sports. There is no stand, parking can be nightmare as you possibly have to pay.

Not to mention the trees strangely planted in between the top viewing area and the pitch. Makes Marjons possibly the worst place to watch a match

Both bang on the money. More suited to P&D football than it is South Western, horrific set up. Stick a stand down at Tothil and let MG play in that league!

Not sure where your getting planning permission to stick a stand down tothill.
As for the 4g yes it is what it is. Just a base for a student team to compete in that league not sure what the issue is only have to play once a season there

Apart from the name, and using their facilities, don't think they have much to do with Marjons Uni. Didn't Shaun Vincent, and few of last season's Blazey squad, briefly land there in the spring/summer before moving on to Callington?

The do not meet Step 6 standard. They are to be given yet more time to be compliant. Worst place to go and watch a game in the SWPL. No cover  No seating. No formal admission structure. Bude application to rejoin turned down- lack of lights I presume - yet the Johnnies deemed worthy with zero facilities other than lighting. Ground grading a strange science!

Normal testing done on 3G pitch is how far a ball rolls from a pre-determined height,  rolled down a tube or something like that.

The bounce of the ball again measured from a pre-determined height, pass both and the pitch is considered acceptable.

Supposed to be tested regularly as well.

4G pitch...don't know what that is, or the difference in its construction?

If anyone would like to measure their goals I’d love to see how they are compliant……. Way too short

testing of a 3G pitch is a little more complex than ball roll and bounce a full test takes about 6 hours. A test for level followed by a computer which checks for turning resistance, depth of sand and rubber crumb and checks for landing resistance when a player jumps. Then ball roll and bounce are checked with a camera recording exactly how far roll and bounce meet the standard set. Looks and finish are part of the overall check. Finally you have to cough up about £1500 every 3 years for FIFA 2 or every year for FIFA 1 . 2 is good enough for step 6.

Nice one Ieuan. Things have certainly moved on from when they were first introduced and I read about the testing...blimey!

Haha...nope!

There's a lot of maintenance to 3Gs as well.

I will say that the one at Hayle is the best maintained one I have seen...well done to Ieuan for that.

Exactly, they can't be just laid down and left.  Have heard as well that they have a life span of about 10 years.

Correct to a certain degree, however, regular brushing every 10 hours use,  deep cleaning once a year (big vacuum cleaner and relaying rubber crumb) the predicted life is possibly between 15/20 years, time will tell. The cost of relaying the carpet is about £200,000, one major problem included in this price is the disposal of the sand and carpet the rubber can be reused. If I am still around in 12 years time can give you a more accurate picture!

Silicate sand(?) Straight on the pitch buddy, best sand ever for sports pitches.
