John Mead
Interested to hear if any Clubs have there own risk assessment and action plan for the prevention of legionella in their hot water system - particularly relating to showers? I'm being told that showers should be flushed through at 60 degrees for at least 30 minutes every week! Seems a great waste of water and gas/electricity. There has to be a better and cheaper way! TheolderIgetthebetterIwas
Bolloooks, trillions of showers taken over the years. Not heard of anyone catching that. A hosepipe left out in the sun...beware! Stand clear of the end when you first turn it on to avoid the splutter, then use as normal I was taught many years ago. Tommy Matthews
Hi John. I don’t know whether this is still current but when I taught Health and Safety in Sport I took my students to Newquay Sports Centre where they were given a tour of the place and how their systems worked. I do remember them saying that they turned their showers on for two minutes each day so that anything in their water system would be flushed out. Might be worth having a chat with your local leisure centre and ask what they do? TheolderIgetthebetterIwas

I'm discovering there are quite stringent H & S regulations to prevent any outbreaks. I'm just trying to find the best way to comply with them! JonColenzo
Our Parish Council carry out regular legionella tests at our sports pavilion, I’ll see what I can find out. TheolderIgetthebetterIwas
