mattelot
A Fantastic day out in the Sidmouth sunshine ,saw the Town and F troop go marching on ,making a lot of new friends along the way . The day started with the 70 seater supporters coach leaving bickland at 10.30 for the 2, 1/2 hour trip to our Devon hosts .On arrival at the ground the ladies on the gate were in awe of the amount of support pouring off the coach and soon got into the spirit of the occasion with a little jiggy dance to the F troop singing sweet Caroline .😁 A really lovely welcoming club and supporters mesmerised by being the home club but outnumbered at least 2 to 1 by the away support .one old chap had never seen anything like it . As for the game it took town about 15 mins to get used to the end to end and side to side slope of the pitch and after some excellent saves by the home keeper, james Ward rose above the home defence to score his trademark headed goal .Further goals from Luke Barner ,Luke Brabyn ,and Jack Bray Evans took us to half time .One sad note of the half was when one of the Sidmouth forwards sustained a serious ankle injury which we hope he recovers from quickly . Any hope of a further flurry of goals for Town were quickly dispelled when sidmouth soon found themselves on the scoresheet after hesitancy in the town defence allowed Jake Boyland to score for the vikings and ten minutes later he got a second to give his side some faint hope .Town made there usual pace substitutions with Jack Bowyer and Alex Wharton joining the attack and it was the former who after several near misses eventually chipped the keeper to finally end any hopes of a Sidmouth comeback . At the final whistle it was great to see not only the Town players applaud the F troop but the Sidmouth team went over and did the same . A good team who deserve better fortune . Mike Odgers
Great day in the Sidmouth sunshine and a cup result at the end of the day . Such a friendly club and supporters who must have had a bar taking bonanza all through the game. It will be interesting to see the official attendance-guessing 200+ After a routine 4-0 lead at half time an untidy 2nd.half saw Falmouth fail to deliver in the final third with some loose passing and erratic crosses and attemps on goal.-Perhaps just as well with next weeks Vase opponents Bradford Town's representatives in attendane (so I was told) Credit to Sidmouth who were never over run to snatch two goals in the last quarter and win the half 2-1. What was off putting for me was a colour clash green & black v grey with green trim. mattelot, Jeff Chambers, Quiet Man and 1 other
Jeff Chambers
A decent 1st half performance by Town and led 4-0 however the 2nd half was scrappy and fair play to Sidmouth, they scored a couple and had far more possession than they had in the 1st half. At a guess i would say around 180 F-Troop travelled up and were made most welcome. Sidmouths bar staff, supporters and players loved the atmosphere we bring and their players even came over after the game and were clapped and cheered by the troop. This coming Saturday we have a tough Vase game against Hellenic side Bradford Town. Expecting another bumper crowd and a really tough game. Thats what cup football is all about. Love the Vase. Ian Pethick
The Vase is, for me, the best knockout competition in England. Unlike the FA Cup, League Cup and FA Trophy, no side rotates/rests players and sees it as a sideshow. The later stages where you find out who you have drawn, then Google your opposition and work out where they are on the map (if it's an away trip) is a special time. If Falmouth can get lucky with home draws, then they could have a decent run this season. A large and noisy crowd at Bickland could be worth an extra man on the pitch, teams will not fancy going down there.
