Joe1970Johnson
Wow, what a cracking cup tie which could easily have finished 9-6 to Liskeard. That it didn’t was down to some superb saves from both goalkeepers. This was end to end stuff from the first minute to the last. Lots of good flowing football from both sides and six well taken goals. These are two very good footballing teams. Did Liskeard deserve their win ? In my view they definitely did as they had more chances all well created, had more pace, better link up play and apart from a diving head near the end, had welll stifled the goal scoring threat of Torpoint’s Curtis Damerell. Liskeard took the lead around the 7/8 minute mark with a well taken finish at the far post from James Lorenz. Torpoint equalised on the half hour, a cross from John Heveren being turned in by Mike Lucas. Then a couple of minutes before half time Liskeard regained the lead with James Lorenz hitting a good left foot shot after some intricate football. A minute later it was 2-2. A long range shot was parried away and Callum Thompson was following up to make it level at the break. The second half was exactly the same as the first and although Liskeard won by two goals, Liskeard were always in this game. In the first minute of the second half, Jarrad Woods hit a great finish into the top right hand corner. Torpoint kept coming forward and shortly afterwards Damerell fed in Ryan Richard who unluckily hit the side netting. And still the chances for both sides kept on coming and still both keepers kept on making fine flying saves. On 70 minutes, Liskeard hit the post following another great flowing move and this denied James Lorenz his hat trick. As the game edged towards its final stages, a great save from the home keeper stopped what looked to be a certain goal from Demerell’s diving header. He then followed this up with a superb flying save from a Ryan Richards volley. Down the other end a great finish from Nick Aplin made it 4-2. Credit to Liskeard here as in the little time remaining, they continued to push forward for a fifth, rather than slow the game down and sit on their two goal lead. A terrific 90 minutes entertainment, full credit to both sides and well done Liskeard on their win. The referee was Mr Hunnisett, who as always when I’ve seen him, controls the game well. There were 7 yellow cards issued (I think). Five were during the game and two were after the final whistle when players from both sides were involved in a minor bout of “handbags”. But this was never a dirty game and the fouls which led to the bookings were probably the only five fouls in the game. mattelot, Toroloco13, Thecupfootballblogger and 1 other
