Storm 0 - 7 St Just Res

Took this one in today hoping to see the revamped Storm give table toppers St Just a run for the points but sadly not to be .

A penalty midway through 1st half then 2 late strikes gave St Just a 3-0 lead at the break . Storm had a good 15 minute spell but then the floodgates opened and 4 further goals including an own goal gave St Just a deserved win .

Many thanks to Jamie Chown for stepping in at last minute to referee this game .

Probus 11 (Gordon Douglas 2,Ben Daniel 2, Ben Emmett, Joe Emmett, Ethan Gatley, Josh Daniel, Jack Truscott, Tom Orpe, Luke Gaye) Stithians Reserves 0

Trelawny 3

After the volume overnight rain I thought that the game would be in doubt but our groundsman/manager Graham Smith has done a great job in preparing the pitch and when I walked across it before the game the conditions were perfect for passing football.

We took the lead after just 75 seconds when an Ethan Gatley cross was put in the back of the net on the half-volley by Ben Daniel, for an excellent finish and a great start for us. We increased our lead after 5 minutes when Ben Daniel was fouled and Ben Emmett struck the free kick into the roof of the net from 25 yards. After 17 minutes Jack Truscott dragged a shot wide when well placed but a couple of minutes later Ethan Gatley had a shot blocked on the line by the visiting defender. We then added a third goal when Ethan slid in a cross as the keeper closed him down, leaving Joe Emmett with a simple tap in from a couple of yards out. I'm not sure why our left back was in that position but he added another goal to his impressive tally for the season and is now up to 5 goals - I think I've only ever seen him score 1 goal in all the time I've seen him play! After 23 minutes our keeper Sam Jones made a good save after a rare attack from Stithians. For the rest of the half we played too many long passes and we didn't move the ball quick enough and we stopped doing what we had done well for the first part of the half. 3-0 at half-time.

We made 5 changes at half-time to see if we could get some more urgency in our passing and we added our 4th when substitute Gordon Douglas's shot was deflected in after 51 minutes. Ben Emmett then crossed for Ben Daniel to finish. After 59 Gordon Douglas controlled the ball well and played in Ethan Gatley for a good finish into the corner with the keeper stationary. Joe Emmett then took a quick free kick on the left and Josh Daniel hit a powerful cross that deceived the keeper to make it 7-0. Jamie Bilkey then had a shot pushed over, before Jack Truscott controlled the ball superbly before rolling the defender and finishing well. After 81 Tom Orpe was fouled and the visiting player was given a yellow card. Tom picked himself up and drilled his free kick hard and low and the keeper couldn't keep the ball out. With 5 minutes left Luke Gaye's  awful shot was heading wide but it hit a visiting defender on the arm and resulted in a penalty which he put away well. We completed the scoring after 89 minutes when Jack Truscott crossed for Gordon Douglas to finish.

A good overall performance by us and we played some good football. Stithians have obviously had a difficult start to the season but credit to them, they kept battling right to the end. We remain unbeaten, with 4 wins from 5 games and we are happy with our start. I'm hoping to make the squad at some point during the season but with so many talented younger players available each week, I'm not holding my breath!

Thank you to the referee Daniel Catacutan, who controlled the game well. Constantine Reserves away for us next week.

Storm just weren’t at it today like we have been recently

missing 7 players and an 8th pulled out an hour before kick off we were always gonna struggle

We let st just play football and they punished us accordingly

Mawnan Res 0-4 St Just (HT 0-2)

A good win for a depleted St Just side, in what I'd describe as a battling fixture as opposed to one with great football on display.

Main reason for writing on here is to thank Mawnan for their superb hospitality. Not only did they let us borrow their away kit at very short notice (after we failed to realise they played in green!) but also for putting on plenty of food afterwards in their clubhouse. Pitch was also excellent given the bad weather we was having at the time. Really good set up. See you this Saturday at our place!
