RESULTS - FA Vase & League - Saturday 25th Sept 2021

Recommended Posts

Guys - the forum has been very quite recently and unfortunately lots of posts that don’t relate directly to games.

As a ‘challenge’ there are 17 Cornish teams playing Vase or SWPL games tomorrow - if there are 17 ‘proper’ match reports (one from / for each team) - I will donate £10 to next years forum upkeep - anybody fancy following suit and getting things back to talking about football?

An admirable suggestion Bob.
However whoever takes up your challenge should remember that many have a differing view on a match, a decision that affected the games outcome, why so and so didn't play. who pays who what amount of money etc etc etc.
It's all part of the game from the professional game down to grass roots, and long may it continue, and so if 17 people do offer a report they shouldn't be suprised if someone else has a different viewpoint of what happened.
Good luck with your idea !!

We Two - totally agree, but it makes it more entertaining when talking about lots of games rather than a whole thread being about 2/3 games or 2/3 incidents in a week.

I for 1 will be reporting on the match at Wadebridge should be a cracker with the 2 leading scorers in hte league on opposite sides MATT LLOYD AND JACK BRAY EVANS ,i can see a Newquay win because Jack Evans is playing so well at the moment should be a great game .Thought for a minute iwouldnt be able to go because of the crazy buggers panic buying at the petrol stations .Going for a 3-1win for Newquay Jack to score 1st like he usually does .Enjoy your footy and get out there and watch a match dont sit on your asses and post comments on here when you havnt even been to a match

Great idea Bobjfh.

I will personally be posting one on here today even though I’m still not sure where I’m going to be watching yet! And of course others present at the same game will have their own opinion on how the match panned out, but isn’t that why we love the game!

Go on others, please do the same as the forum would love to have £10 off Bob towards the survival of the forum. 😀👍

Big loss Been loyal to Newquay for many years and it was a bout time he went to a team like Falmouth with fantastic players and the great F Troop, was a surprise to me i thought he was on the way to Blazey but hes too good for them and Falmouth is a perfect fit and he should do well at Falmouth when they are promoted to the Western league supporters will miss the F troop ,maybe we should start are own F troop at the G I could bang a tamborine and im sure smokie can bang a drum .Good luck to Jack at Falmouth i wander who Newquay will get to replace him no one is as good as him . Falmouth will be even better than they are now  .

Camelford 3-2 Cheddar

Knew it was going to be a difficult game, Camels missing 2/3 of midfield and Cheddar doing well in the Western League 1.

Game started brightly with Camels on top, but real cup tie - Camels dominating and maintaining possession but Cheddar looking bright on the break

33 min Cam scores from a Ryan shot, would of been a penalty as handball on the line but bounced to Cam who scored.
41 min lovely run by Ryan pulls back for Ed to calmly finish. 2-0 HT

48 min Cheddar no7 scored from a breakaway - game on 2-1
Next minute Gus hits the crossbar with the Cheddar keeper stranded.
62 min could of been a straight red card for Cheddar no9
65 min could / should of been penalty for Cheddar - not given
80 min Cheddar no7 scored again 2-2 - looked like penalties coming.
83 min Gus scores a lovely goal from an Ed flick and a tight tight angle 3-2 and game over.

Proper cup tie - no quarter given by either side Camels deserved it over 90 but Cheddar should be proud of their fight back in second half

Officials had good games

Falmouth Town 3. Callington Town 0.

Not exactly a vintage performance from Falmouth today. A good 5 or 6 players out and they huffed and puffed a bit to get the win. Lots of long balls meant that possession was frequently relinquished and it needed a defensive mix-up to provide Jack Bowyer with a tap-in to open the scoring.

Shortly after, he turned provider as he played in Luke Brabyn to slot one past the makeshift Camelford keeper. Unfortunately, due to injury and unavailability, Camelford had to select an outfield player in goal but he made a few saves and did ok on the day.

2-0 at half time and Falmouth played a bit better football in the second half. The pressure told and a strong run in to the box by Tim Nixon was ended by a desperate Callington challenge. Brabyn stepped up to take the resulting penalty to make it 3-0.

Falmouth move on with their 100% record intact. They were rarely threatened but didn't play that well. Sign of a good side of course.

Another impressive crowd who were very vocal. Lots of parents and kids there too which was great to see. All the F-Troop were in Hawaiian shirts today which added to the party atmosphere. All Falmouth fans should enjoy these times with lots of good work being done on and off the pitch.

UP THE TOWN!!

Wadebridge 1 Newquay 4

Attendance : Decent, comfortably over 100 I think.

Wadebridge have a lot going for them as a team and as a club, but today they can have no complaints about this result. It was 2-0 at half time, which was certainly a fair scoreline as they had been second to every ball and way off the pace. Newquay had 4 corners in the first 5 or 6 minutes, and all were the result of nerves and hesitancy in the Wadebridge defence. Frankly they never got going in the first half at all.
The Newquay number 8, looked as if he was blowing out of his backside, yet sitting in front of the back four, he was spraying the ball around with his sweet left foot. Reminded me of a young Tom Huddlestone in his prime and I’m not sure Newquay were quite the same after he went off very early in the second half. Also featuring prominently for Newquay in this first 45, was their number 14, playing at left back. A sublime cross for one of the goals, placing it right on the forwards forehead. The second was a super piece of skill with a shot which went in off the far post. Wadebridge were restricted to a couple of random hit and hope shots.

Second half saw Wadebridge start brightly with more determination and eventually pulling one back with a great header from the player who wanted it more than the defender when the ball came over. Fine margins later on when what looked to be a golden chance to equalise and a free header went agonisingly wide. From the resulting goal kick, Newquay went straight down the other end and made it 3-1. From being close to 2-2, to 3-1 and game over to the visitors. A fourth near the end did not flatter Newquay and Wadebridge know they will have to improve substantially to get anything when the two teams meet in the league this coming midweek.

An entertaining afternoon, 5 good goals, 1 yellow card and a reasonable performance from the officials.

Great match report, Newquay dominated and also had a number of players missing. Hopefully It’s a good draw for them in the next round

Good luck to anyone who tries to do a match report for the St Blazey game. Everything that could of happened literally did 🤣

Well I left with the game at a standstill with St.Blazey FC making great efforts in trying to find a replacement qualified lineo as the Senior Lineo had taken over from the injured match referee Nigel D'Arcy.

All this with about 10 minutes to go with the scores level at 2 -2.

Decent game in front of a good attendance.

That Vincent is slower than carts, and also half the player to.

Can't see him being a starter for parkway

St Blazey 2v2 Dobwalls. Dobwalls won 4v5 on pens. Att.156.

For the second season running St Blazey go out the F.A Vase on pens. We had enough chances to be well in front at half time. Duffey made some excellent saves and ultimately won the match with his penalty saves.

A minutes silence was held before kick off for Fred Jackson who has worked behind the scenes at St Blazey for several years. He passed away in hospital just hours before kick off. 😥

Guys - nearly a whole thread about football. Missing a couple of update (Rappo / Walltz / Wendron official / Dave D / Sticker- and maybe even Robbie and Le Boss) - so much better than West Briton lol

Couple to go - and £10’ given to the forum!!

As a quick Edit - it’s been about football and not having a go at each other - Carts may have slowed, JBE may have moved on but more to talk about amongst us that love going to local games.

St Blazey 2, Dobwalls 2

(Dobwalls win 5-4 on pens)

Well this game was late kicking off as well as late finishing!

Very early pressure came from the visitors but St Blazey stood firm and could have been the first to get on the scoresheet if it wasn’t for Jordan Duffey making two great blocking saves from Callum Kenny and Rory Jarvis.

Dobwalls took the lead after 16 minutes when a sweetly hit volley from Ray Spear gave Jason Chapman no chance whatsoever, but the game was level at the interval with Neil Slateford equalising via a penalty after former Blaise Park player/manager Stuart Morgan was adjudged to have hand-balled.

The second half was only about 10 seconds old when Jarvis touched the ball wide of the Dobwalls goal but on 50 minutes Chris Reski remained cool in front of goal to show how it should be done and put the home side ahead.

Back came Dobwalls and forced Chappers to make a great save but not too long after the goalkeeper could do nothing about Spear scoring his second of the afternoon, again from a shot on the edge of the penalty area.

We then had a delay in play as referee Nigel D'Arcy pulled up injured with eventually Dobwalls providing a replacement linesman. Play continued until we had another delay when Matt Thackeray had to be stretchered off injured.

With time running out Kelvin Fyneboy could have settled this tie but watched his penalty pushed away by Chapman.

So after 78 minutes of the second half, with it all square 2-2, we had then the drama of a penalty shoot out.

Ironically Spear, with two attempts, failed to score from the spot. However it still wasn’t to be St Blazey’s day as immediately after Spear, Sam Cooper made a mess of two attempts and when Jordan Dingle had his spot kick saved, it was Dobwalls left celebrating a place in the next round.

7 days isn’t up yet and so how come you guys are so sure he’s leaving? No guarantee he will get a place with Falmouth, whereas I would imagine he’s the first pencilled in on a Newquay teamsheet at the moment. Local lad too and so big decision for him.

Seen in the grandstand this afternoon a good replacement for this seasons top player  Jack Webber who is back at University.

Good day for us.
Great atmosphere with an attendance of 110, 6 from Bishop Sutton who made the journey down.
We started brightly and forced a few half chances before Bishop grew into the game and it evened itself out with their 7 in the middle of the park looking sharp along with their front two. Both sides forced a few half chances without threatening too much, with ourselves probably having the better of the game.
Bishop Sutton scored on 35 mins from a swift counter, a good cut back allowed their winger to score.
The next 10 minutes was all Wendron as we looked to level before the break but some good chances weren’t taken.
It didn’t take long to level after the interval. Lucas Potts had a few shots from distance that carried little threat but he struck one from 20 yards, which got a fortuitous deflection to wrong foot the keeper and end up in the bottom corner.
Wendron went 2-1 up about 10 minutes later when we won the ball up high. A pass around the corner sent Jack Noy away to finish smartly.
A few further chances to see the game out weren’t taken and Bishop Sutton had a good spell at the end but we held out to get our name into the hat.
Well officiated by all three officials, no real moments of controversy but managed the game well.

Best of luck to Bishop Sutton for the remainder of their season.

Mattelot - no offence at all. I’m not a great one for social media (don’t use Twitter / FB or any other such thing) - only really this forum and when I started doing reports I made a decision not to use surnames - couple of reasons - I have family connections to a player (was players) and didn’t want to be seen as showing favouritism in the reports and secondly the Camels had six under 18 year olds playing (still have 4) and whilst their surnames are out there I didn’t feel right, personally, using them on a public forum. I try to do the same with players from other teams, where I can and always for players I know personally. I also won’t mention any names if someone ‘cocks up’ from either team or even officials names. when good or not so good - just the way I am, sorry if it detracts from the reports.

Except for penalty taking. And at least saltash didn’t resort to bringing southern League ringers. If I was a permanent Bodmin player displaced for a ringer, I wouldn’t be happy. All Carter was playing for was the brown envelope.
