LWC Drinks Combination League Results - Saturday 18th September 2021

Remember goals scored in County and National Cups don't count in the Golden Boot Award as a few teams are not allowed to take part in them so it is unfair to their players.

Penryn (Jeffery X2, Jay X2, Roberts X 2, Cooke X2) 8-2  Goonhavern

Another decent game at Kernick & well worth the £2 the 21 fans paid, braved the rain in the 1st half & were rewarded with bright sunshine for the 2nd half.

Penryn started the brighter & scored the opener after 10 mins when the brilliant Kyle Cooke skinned his man & was hacked down for a pen, which skipper Glen Jeffery drilled home. Goonies pulled 1 back when stand in Ryn keeper threw the ball to the opposition attacker, who whipped a ball in, & after several missed chances to clear was drilled in by sturgess. Ryn made it 2 when Martyn Jay connected well from a Lewis Pellow corner. The 3rd came shortly after when Cooke was again brought down & Jeffery placed it in the same corner giving the Goonhavern keeper no chance. Against the run of play the away team made it 3-2 when their skipper took down a clearance from the Ryn keeper, before clipping in from the half way line. Ryn made it 4-2 before ht when Jason Roberts cut in from the left & lashed in from the near stick.

Ht 4-2

2nd half started as the 1st ended with Ryn on top,  & made it 5 when Jay got on the end of another corner. Ryn made it 6 when Roberts robbed the defender & again banged 1 at the near post. Penryn made it 7 when Kyle Cooke, who had ran the defence ragged all day, got the goal which his performance had deserved, heading home from a corner. Ryn saved the best till last when Cooke cut in from the left & drove into the top bin from 30 yards.

Goonhavern weren't as bad as the score suggests, they fought till the end & made a game of it. Best of luck for the season & look forward to the return game at Reen Manor Park, where I played my 1st season on South Western League football back in 2006. Great club.
