And just seen the following on Twitter from St Merryn:- "First league game of the season, first game since December 2020… The lads come away with a 2-1 victory away at St Minver Reserves. Ian B Posted September 5, 2021 Report Share Posted September 5, 2021 GSM came up against a very good St Columb Major. Both sides created early chances. A couple of good saves from debutant GSM keeper Matt Bullen and Ben Colquhoun firing a first time shot over the bar from a Jason Busby cross. St Columb Major made the break through on 23 mins when the ball was played through, Matt Bullen came out to clear but the St Columb Major play got the slightest touch which resulted in the ball falling nicely for another St Columb Major play who calmly lift the ball over the covering defender in to the empty net. St Columb Major nearly went 2 up almost straight away but for an excellent finger tip save from Matt Bullen. 40 mins and Jason Busby almost capitalised on a shot back pass from the St Columb Major defence, getting to the ball but just failing to lift it over the advancing keeper. HT St Columb Major 1 GSM 0 St Columb Major should have gone 2 up 5 minutes after the break when they beat the offside trap. The forward ran on to the ball, rounded the keeper at the edge of the area but inexplicably hit the post from inside the 6 yard box. 55 mins and St Columb Major got their second when with his back to goal the St Columb Major forward cleverly flicked the ball over his shoulder straight in to the bath of a team mate who volley in from 6 yards out. On 65 mins GSM's Charlie Andrew was dismissed, the original decision from the ref appeared to be a sin bin but as Charlie was leaving the field the ref suddenly brandished a red. This reduced reduced GSM to 9, with Hadyn Andrew already sin binned . St Columb Major capitalised and added a third on 72 mins when a shot from the edge of the area was saved but St Columb Major reacted first to the rebound to force the ball home. 80 mins and GSM's Angus Joce was also dismissed, again the ref initially indicated a sin bin before brandishing the red card, reducing GSM to 9 men again for the final 10 mins. St Columb Major scored 3 late goals against the tiring GSM. GSM almost grabbed a consolation when Jason Busby beat the offside trap and crashed the ball off the post from 18 yards out.
