Brislington Match Report

Recommended Posts

Truro City were knocked out of the League Cup on Saturday and despite a late valiant effort to take the game into extra time Brislington deserved to win after a disjointed City performance.

Truro came into the game unbeaten since Boxing Day in the league but the two previous league meetings between the teams had provided a win at Treyew Road and a draw at Brislington earlier in the season.

The home side attacked City from the start and a fine save from Chapman saw Brislington score from the resulting corner, the ever hard working Watkins intercepted a poor clearance from the keeper to run on goal but saw his effort hit the post and the rebound was scrambled to safety.

Truro fell further behind on the half hour when a poor back pass was intercepted and the striker had no problems beating Chapman to score, both Watkins and Martin had half chances to pull a goal back before half time but they had there efforts smothered.

The second half was more closer with City providing more of a cutting edge but at times they lacked in the final third although Watkins and Martin again went close, but just as they seemed to be pushing for the goal they were caught on the counter attack and conceded the third.

Within a minutes substitute Kevin Wills saw his shot go agonisingly wide after a good cross from Reski, with ten minutes to go Watkins was bundled over in the box and leading scorer Yetton calmly converted the penalty and within a minute of the restart it was 3-2 when Wills jinxing run saw him score from 20yards it was game on again but for all the pressure City tried they were unable to find the equaliser and Brislington booked a home Semi Final place.

Truro now play Falmouth Town on Wednesday in the Semi Final of the Senior Cup before concentrating on their main goal promotion with their lead cut to five points by Corsham though the Tigers have a game in hand.
