The Mid Cornwall Sunday League standings as of Sunday 2nd January 1970.

Riviera Coasters       12 played  23 points

St.Minver                  12              17

St.Austell YMCA      9                16

New Par                  13               16

Fourways YC           13              15

Saltash Rovers          9              11

Pelynt/Polperro       13              10

Tintagel                   11                9

Lostwithiel                9             5

Saltash Food Distributers   9   for 0 points.

Unfortunately can't locate a final league table, My press cuttings a tad worse for wear.

I do recall that St.Austell YMCA, New Par & Fourways YC played at Par Running Track and the two Saltash clubs played at Landrake.

Where is/was the Landrake pitch David as it is a tad hilly around the village?

Well if I remember correctly,  approaching from Liskeard , top of the hill turned left and somewhere along that road about 1/2 mile. Only played there the once, it was nothing special surface wise. Other times at Warfelton behind Kimberley, we are talking 50 years ago but we did play at Landrake in that particular season.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Nicholas Cup was part of the old West Penwith league but was played on a league system over the season. All the teams in the league thrown into a draw & forming 2 leagues of 8. These games were part of the league program with the top 2 teams in each league playing a final on Bank holiday Monday. I remember at Porthleven playing Nicholas cup games on Wednesday night, Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening & then playing the final on the Monday to win this cup in the eighties.

& they whinge about playing 2 games a week. 🤣😂🤣😂

Are any of the leagues mentioned above youth leagues? Remember playing for Liskeard under 14's in the Bodmin & District league (I think that this was what is was called) in the early eighties. My recollection is of being thumped most weeks by the Bodmin based teams , the likes of Mount and Bodminites in particular were very strong. There were always rumours surrounding these teams though that some of there players may have been slightly over age. My memory may be playing tricks with me, or it might be an urban myth that has ingrained in my mind, but some of the "under 14's" may have turned up in their own cars. 😀
