countyman
Last nights announcement effectively ends the ECPL league season .... surely no one could practically aim to complete their season in under 3 months (even assuming we are fully out and able to play at the end of Feb). Perhaps the league should start to plan now and give us a few alternatives that could see us at least have a form of viable, competitive and most of all meaningful football once we can resume? My personal idea would be to scrap the league competition again and agree no promotion or relegations with above or below. Then play out a league cup competition with a format of 4 groups of 4 based on geographical proximity playing each other home and away, the top 2 then to go knockout in a draw ( this guarantees at least 6 games with minimal travel for all club especially since evening games are possible , 7 for half the clubs with 9 to the 2 finalists) with an end of May final this could be played out every weekend starting April and could even be delayed till Easter...... there are more pressing matters to resolve right now, but we will definitely be out of this in some form as the months progress so it surely makes sense to plan now and have a few options “oven ready” ?? stay safe everyone ⚽️⚽️👍⚽️👍👍 TheolderIgetthebetterIwas
Maybenextyear
I think that would put us (Marjons) in with Mount Gould, Torpoint and St Dominick, ie the teams currently 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the league. 🤔 No easy solution to this, how about a random cup draw, the winners all go into one group and play a mini-league and the losers do likewise, that way everyone gets 8 games and in theory have something to play for in each game? Or average points per game to decide the league you go into but this can be unfair depending on who you have played, eg Looe have only played 6 games including 3 of the top
JonColenzo
How about add last seasons results to this season? If for instance that would mean you’ve played a team 3 times already then this seasons result stands? Would mimimise the games left to play. Just a thought. Then just rename it 2019/21 season

St Newlyn East AFC
Just one problem! What if you weren’t in the ECPL last season?
JonColenzo
Haha just thought that! There’s always one lol, you’ll have to complete your season somehow 😂
hedgerow
All the ideas above are good, but a lot depends on what Tier our respective Counties are put in. At the moment, subject to further updates from our friend Boris, we are in lockdown until 31st March. We just have to wait and see but agree respective leagues would have to discuss options sooner rather then later. At the end of the day, staying safe is a priority. Grassrootsgary
My opinion would be to have a Play off similar to the style they do in Scotland. for example the top half of the ecpl league have a miniature KO type play off and the league above a bottom half teams do the same intertwining the leagues therefore allowing relegations and promotions to occur throughout the leagues. because if you ask me we have now had 2 seasons wasted without any reward for teams who have done well. 2 years worth of hard work for some teams shouldn’t just be swept under the carpet. There should be a way of determining promotions/relegations even if it has to be a cup style tournament
Dave Deacon
However although the emphasis seems to be to encourage promotion , ah this level, teams still have to apply for it. This season only St Dominick and St Stephen have ‘applied’ and so at the least how about a play-off between these two?
John Mead
All valid suggestions but.... all Leagues have to follow their rules and all have specific rules about how the League Champions are decided, as well as about promotions & relegation! Competition rules cannot be changed once a season has started!

Not quite that easy Dave. Any number of possible scenarios would have to be catered for all of which would become nugatory if, as is seemingly more likely every day, the FA declare the season null and void with no promotion or relegation. But I suppose as the vacancies in St Piran League (and below) are filled by election at an AGM (as mentioned elsewhere on this forum recently) the SPL could fill vacancies by taking the two teams that have applied? If you only want one - let the two play-off (two legged affair) and allow some meaningful football to be staged at least somewhere in the county this season! 😀

A play off to decide who goes forward for election isn't so if that path was taken it would need sanctioning. For the last week we have been looking at options for when play is allowed again so we can have some meaningful matches at that point. Those plans should firm up over the coming weeks.
