Are we at the point of a ‘World Cup’ style League?

Recommended Posts

I’ve just waded through 7 miles of mud walking the dog!!!! The chances of a full fixture list this weekend is remote but the chances of the country going into a Ross & Rachel from friends ‘we are on a break’ is high! Most sides from the Combo have at least 16 games left to play......The big question is this ‘will the league fixtures be finished?’  Let’s be honest Probably not the way we are going😳

Food for thought! Come the end of Feb could a team get 6 in? Yes? How about If the league can’t be decided break it down into 4 groups of 4 depending on league positions 1,5,9,13 pool A 2,6,10,14 Pool B and so on. They play each other top 2 go through for a chance at the league (last 8.) in a World Cup style format with the final 2 playing for the league the other 2 in the pool finishing 3rd and 4th go into bottom half of league play off for positions.

won’t happen but let’s try not to null and void the leagues yet again that’s just heartbreaking and points per game is great but if a team has only played the lesser sides its a bit of an unfair advantage plus at least everyone gets a few games that are competitive!!!!

I realise this is never going to happen but the conversation about St Blazey has dried up everything is getting rained off and I’m bored stuck at home with all the clubhouses shut.....one to discuss 🤔😉

Plenty of life left in the St Blazey story (now involving the (not) youth section). Love your attempts at a playing solution, but you’ll never beat FIFA. They can make a tournament out of 4 flies and a jam jar.

Not sure about the remarks about the (not )youth section. But from my knowledge of the youth club called AFC St Blazey Youth they come from St Blazey yes but have no dealings as a club with St Blazey AFC. The youth play on a pitch at the cricket club and pitches at Fowey School. The excellent committee at the youth section do a fine job and deserve praise for providing football through all ages and for both boys and girls. Well organised club with a great bunch of managers.

Perhaps they should have called themselves Par, Tywardreath, Polkerris youth, not played in green and black, and as stated earlier not used St Blazey clubhouse for functions. Now I don’t really care and I’m Not totally sure which side Leeds is on in this discussion BUT if they had not done the above, would they have attracted the youngsters? They are not alone in this but when the **** hits the fan, if you share the name it’s easy to make the connection, right or wrong.

As we all know all fixtures were not fulfilled last season and so the league was null and void  which was a massive kick in the teeth to the 3 teams who stood a great chance of winning the lge after battling  hard for 6 mths before things were brought to an abrupt halt. If all fixtures can't  be completed  again this season then surely the only fair conclusion  would be to null and void the season again.

Totally agree. If the FA had a brain they had 6 months to construct rules for another truncated season. They didn’t. Rules introduced part way through the season are always wrong and will upset teams who deem themselves hard done by. The NLS is in disarray for a second year and probably in a worse state than March. The next 3 months doesn’t  look very hopeful. Perhaps 21-22 will see a return to normality. Just don’t bet on it.

Disagree - why tread water? Why write off 2 seasons? Unprecedented times sometimes require thinking outside of the box. Speaking from current experience their is real player apathy out there at the moment! Give teams something to aim for! Yes it might not be a league title in a traditional format but it is still an opportunity to win something and celebrate it and also if possible towards spring play some competitive football

Happy for teams to play for whatever tinpot scheme can be introduced. BUT IT WON’T BE PROMOTION/ RELEGATION which is really what it is all about surely?

Why not the top team can be considered for promotion and the 8 teams that finish bottom of the pool games can play off for a bottom 2 relegation 🤷🏻‍♂️ Place the 4 teams that lose the first play off play again the two sides who don’t win finish bottom

Promoted to where, to replace who? Unless the whole pyramid has the same design, there is no point or logic.
