Being sqeezed

Recommended Posts

Like my team, Hereford, Truro's off field fund raising must be suffering.

Today Friday our Hereford Supporters Trust, who are trying to be the majority shareholder are having an email AGM.

As part of the paperwork this year's Supporters Club accounts have been sent through for us to adopt.

Two years ago we made £67,550 or £37,077 after expenses.

This season those figures have dropped to £53,578 and £28,412 but only include the March and May lockdown period. Even those figures were helped by a new Covid Lockdown Online draw and Sports Lottery which netted over £2,000 profit.

Think, we have just on a thousand members in our Trust to take over the club and our "Profits" are way down in our bid to buy these shares. Imagine how smaller and more local clubs are suffering.

I really dread what this coming season's figures will show. How many clubs, especially ones in the Southern, National leagues, etc. Many will struggle or fold.

Argyle have no debt and we’re living within their means. This is not the case of the overall majority of clubs.

Smaller clubs that rely on gate receipts and clubhouse revenue will be in big trouble if they are playing players.

Best thing to happen is a big reset and clubs no longer pay players at this level. Once in a life time opportunity to shift the change.

How very true Richard, we have promoted the idea of living within your means for some time.
Unfortunately as long as there are clubs who are prepared to pay their income in to the pockets of players, the danger of clubs folding will persist.
Some have argued that the players need the money to supplement their personal outgoings, since when has local football been part of the benefits system ?
Clubs that have been prudent with their cash will survive, others will soon be relying on sending out begging letters or crowdfunding to survive.
