Culdrose found themselves 3-0 down at half time, Having given the ball away Far too cheaply and too making too many errors allowing the opposition to score some easy goals. First was a dipping shot that should have been saved, can’t remember the second and the third was a free kick fumbled by the keeper allowing 3 x attackers to run in on unchallenged and slot home.
Better second half performance from the hosts playing the better football and creating chances, Key one being great movement by the striker, only to be saved by the keeper with a great point blank save with his grid! Rosudgeon scored a 4th with 2 mins left to play after stealing the ball all too easily from the young Culdrose defender.

Most of the away boys stayed for a beer which was good to see, attendance roughly 40 with a decent split of supporters.

Pendeen 0-2 Penryn (Roberts, Southeard)

A very hard fought win on the road for Penryn, in a game that we always knew would be tough. Penryn started the brighter & enjoyed the lions share of possession in the 1st 25 minutes, but poor decisions & badly executed passes in the final third meant we only had a few half chances to show. Pendeen didn't create any real chances either but did have a string of corners that worried the away side. Near the end of the half Jason Roberts was brought down in the box & the referee, who had a great view, pointed to the spot. After a long protest, the Pendeen sub who happened to be running the line at that point waved the referee over who reversed his decision & gave a corner. It was 1 of those where the defender clearly got the ball but went straight through the man to get it, I would have been raging if it was given against me, but that being said an untrained home linesman can not overturn a penalty. That seemed to spark both teams into life & the game then became a more feisty affair from there on, there were no more chances in the 1st half as the teams went in for half time at 0-0. The 2nd half was much the same as the 1st, both teams fighting for every ball, Penryn enjoying more possession but unable to create much, Pendeen had a 1 on 1 well saved after a long kick from the goalkeeper. It felt like the game had 0-0 written all over it & we could see why Pendeen had kept 2 clean sheets from their 3 games this season. The game changed on 60minutes when playmaker Brad Southeard was introduced to the Ryn midfield, he immediately started getting on the ball & making things happen. 10 minutes later Southeard played Sam Connolly down the right, who put a deep cross up the hill to the back post to Jason Roberts to coolly stroke home to put Penryn 1-0 up. 5 minutes later there was a bit of handbags between Roberts & the Pendeen #3 which saw both players booked. Soon after the 2 players clashed again, with the Pendeen man going in studs up, well over the ball to catch Roberts half way up the shin, he was shown a 2nd yellow & Pendeen were down to 10 men. With the home team trying to get back into the game Southeard was finding more & more space & with 10 minutes left he dribbled through the Pendeen back line before unselfishly squaring the ball for Roberts to tap home from a yard, only to be ruled out for offside, much to the dismay of the Penryn players & coaches. With 5 minutes on the clock Penryn were almost punished for not killing the game off when the Pendeen #9 was inches away from latching onto an underhit pass back to the keeper, but gk Chris Page was alert & managed to clear the ball. Then in pretty much the last play of the game Southeard picked the ball up in the middle of the park, jinked his way past the pendeen midfield before unleashing a 25 yard rocket into the top corner.

The was a fiercly contested game by 2 well drilled sides. Penryn were good for the win but Pendeen were always well in the game. I'm sure both sets of players are already looking forward to the reverse fixture.

Apologies we couldn't stay for a pint, 45 minute drive home along with players not bringing their covid masks.

Mom - Brad Southeard.
