SWPL E Division

Stoke Gabriel 0 Ivybridge Town 3

headcount Att around 50

After a rather suspect late P-P for Saltash game away at Bodmin... I took the opportunity to drive through the South Hams to see Stoke Gabriel. If I'm honest, I was goal hunting and to see the task in hand.

However, following on from an appeal for decent unattached players even from the league sec, Stoke Gabriel clearly played a much stronger team even to the one which lost 9-0 Saturday at Elburton or the disastrous 1-18 last Wednesday.

And it was a good game for Stoke, they defended hard, never stopped trying and even had a couple of chances. Ivybridge I think came with the idea that they'd score a packet and once they failed te after time they got more frustrated.

Ivies scored in 57th, 69 and 72, after that it was all hands to Stoke pumps. But they held on, and therefore got the best result of their season. Their number 4 in central defence whilst young (probably 19 or 20 at best) had the game of the night and could could have a good long term future in the SWPL.

Stoke have turned the corner. And for that, plus the effort, friendliness and trying to improve it made a drizzle heavy evening go rather well!!

Nice to see Roger Bonaparte playing for Stoke Gabriel!

Just came back from watching a cracking game at Helston. So proud of our boys from St Austell I mean play for St Austell. Not sure what is going on down there but Helston didn't have a clue our boys were to quick and first to nearly every second ball. Second half was all route one long ball from the home team no wonder there didn't seem to be many fans from Helston couldn't watch that all season. Massy doesn't seem to be very tactically aware. Or not a clue springs to mind. The team is so disjointed.

Since the start of the season the St Austell player's have stepped up to the challenge and proved a lot of doubters wrong. I have watched all the St Austell games so far and this season there is no swearing, or player's falling out on the pitch. They are a team who are proud to play for their local  side with no egos or playing for that big brown envelope.

A breath of fresh air keep it going boys. And well done chappy you are a star great game tonight. Get in!!!!!!!!!!

Good result for a struggling Helston side

All joking aside though. What has happened to them? Very similar to the all-conquering line-up of last season but very different results.

You have to admire Mr Massey for his commitment but will it be enough for them to win anything this season?

Who was in goal by the way tonight?

Watched a relentless Wadebridge tonight take apart what looked to be a rather depleted and very lack lustre Callington side.

Wadebridge were ruthless in attack with the boy Flew scoring maybe 6.

Interested to hear that Callington sacked their Manager last weekend which might explain this performance, not sure who was in charge tonight but they have their work cut out after what I seen tonight.

Good luck to both sides for the remainder of the season.

Looking bleak at Helston reading Dave Deacons comments on another thread; no Hooper last night. Has he left the club or was he absent for another reason. The wheels are well and truly coming off.........will have to up the cash or the players will be leaving next.

A manager that is not tactically aware will get found out very quickly, when big sums of money are involved the criticism comes quicker and harsher. In the case of the manager being the one pumping in money and not 'having a clue' they have an assistant who does, Al Carey has done it!!!

Is that such a bad thing if they’re not doing the business on the park?

Dave, watching Helston on many occasions. They pay a lot of money for their midfield but don’t use them. They bypass them and hope that the pace of Goldie and Tucker can make something happen. Their midfielders would walk into most if not all teams in the league but are not used.

The team plan and tactics are created by the management team and implemented by the players. Something is broken at the club and I don’t think SM has a clue just a wallet to bring in more players from a higher standard if required.

His original vision was get local talent.......

Where other teams like St Austell are coaching a team to play a system and getting results. Most of St Austell players are local and seem to have a very good team ethos unlike SM and his band of mercenaries.

Surly if your that good a midfielder you demand the ball of your defence before they hoof it up front.  and the team plays through you. Especially at that level.  Think your jus trying to heap the blame on management when maybe it’s the midfielders who are lacking confidence

The midfield can demand the ball all they want, if the defence has had instructions to lump it then that's what will happen. From what I've seen the defenders are better off going route one as they struggle to play short anyway. A 60/70 yard lump up field into an area of the pitch is easier for the defenders as they don't need pick anyone out. One touch then hoof.

Read the post. Players implement the managers plan.

When the results dry up everyone looks at the management and rightly so, but in this instance the manager is the cash cow so he isn’t going anywhere is he.

Time for a different plan, because the current plan is making them look daft.

Sometimes it would be nice to see the opponent get a little praise for their performance. Helston didn’t even lose the game and both liskeard and st Austell are doing well this season.
Lots of teams will drop points this season including Saltash Bodmin and Mousehole etc

Its the way it “Should be “
