Storm 1, Carharrack 10

 

The single most miserable match for me was a couple of seasons ago watching Carharrack lose 14 - 1 at Falmouth Town (it was 14 - 0  until the last minute!). So I suppose I have to be willing to watch Carharrack win by a hatful in this Phoenix season of theirs. It wasn't a good game to watch: Carharrack could and should have had more but so often dithered in front of goal rather than shoot. I think the psychological influence of expecting to win easily affected their  performance. They should have had a goal or two beforea spirited Storm side went ahead in the 13th minute!

1 - 8 (64) Dylan Tiddy, a long, low drive from distance that somehow eluded the 'keeper.

It seems insulting to the Storm side to say that Carharrack were not at their best. Storm played the full 90 minutes with effort and enthusiasm and when you think that these lads pay to play for the privilege of conceding a hatful of goals, it puts the so called "predicament" of the poor unappreciated Premiership and Championship players. The two clubs today changed at the pitch side, like was usual 45 years ago. It seems the rules allow players close (very close at times, say, corners) contact on the pitch but they can't use changing rooms. So what happens at Illogan, Falmouth, Truro? Anyone enlighten me? Arriving just before kick-off at Ting Tang I hadn't realised the teams weren't using dressing rooms. Does that mean no showers after the game? So, lads (and lassies), do what we had to do in the 70s and drape large towels over your car seats on match days so you can travel home lagged without messing up your upholstery!

No appointed Ref for this game so Storm sportingly agreed to Jamie Chown taking the whistle. Difficult job, done well. Not very much dissent from Storm. No tea, certainly no bacon butties! Credit to Storm, 3 points to the Reds.

Praze vs St Just postponed after the league decided at 11am to call the game off because understandably a couple of Praze players have covid symptoms.

I guess praze don't play next week given the governments advice for 14 days isolation?

Given up doing match reports apart from in the Penzance Reserves matchday programme due to Rodney Beer. Every time I comment all we get from him is demeaning and snide comments and criticisms.

Solid win for Ludgvan... two stonewall penalty appeals turned down first half and then missed the one they actually got in the second half when the score was still 0-0. First half was fairly cagey with both defences on top. 

Barrie Prowse scored the opener after running through from midfield and a great free kick from Damon Nicholls killed the game not long after.

Scrappy and feisty game, Ludgvan winger sent off for throwing a punch near the end.

Trelawny Premier

We had no appointed ref so one of our players, Stuart Rowe, took the whistle and did an excellent job. Refereeing is difficult enough anyway but when you’re reffing a game for your own team it makes it even harder.

We took the lead after about 20 minutes when Harry Bardsley tapped in after a defensive mix-up. Within 10 minutes Troon were level when their forward got in down our left and crossed for the forward to tap in from 5 yards out. It looked like being all square at the break but Liam Paddock tapped in from a few yards out after the Troon keeper made a decent save. 2-1 to Probus at halftime.

Troon had much more of the possession in the second half with us playing against a strong wind but they didn’t create too much but they did have several corners and forced us deep into our half without really troubling our keeper. They were restricted to mainly shots from distance. We went 3-1 up when we won a corner and the ball was cleared outside the box and it ended up at Luke Gaye ’s (it won’t allow me to spell his name properly!) feet 25 yards out and he hit an excellent shot that went over the keeper and dipped under the bar. Then followed one of the strangest things I’ve seen on a football pitch in over 30 years of men’s football - our manager brought my brother, Pete Davey (a centre back), on up front for the injured Liam Paddock....I felt like retiring on the spot 😂 To be fair he is big and he did make a nuisance of himself, unfortunately for us he was more of a pain for us than he was Troon! Thankfully the final whistle came and we were relieved to get the 3 points. Troon played well and we didn’t really ever get near how we can play but we are delighted to get the 3 points and I’m sure Troon will be disappointed to get nothing from the game. 
Thank you to Stuart Rowe for allowing us to get the game on and well done on his performance. Newlyn Non-Athletico away next week for us.

Trelawny League Division 2

Chacewater 6 - 0 St Buryan

Out of the traps like a seagull spotting a pasty at 50 yards.. 

Beller scored a peachy overhead kick to start things off and we never looked back. 

5 in the first half, but as usual, could have been a few more. 

Chacewater creating chances every few minutes it seemed. Jonny Row's training drills actually seem to be working as we were getting the ball in box whenever we had the opportunity. 

Second half we got a little complacent and allowed them a bit more time on the ball. Their keeper made a string of great saves to keep the scoreline down. 

Happy with a clean sheet. Their only effort on target was a shot drilled in after a corner. Goal line clearance from the guy on the post, don't think I was getting to it..

Happy days, 4 from 4. Mark Bell with 4 looked unstoppable at times. Dean Hill with a brace to continue his excellent form. Greens go marching on! 

Lovely to see @Soccer Follower at the game 😊 whilst down this way.

Trelawny League Division 1

Penzance Res 0-2 Ludgvan Res

 

Ludgvan Reserves maintained their 100% start to the season with a hard-fought win over local rivals Penzance at Penlee Park.

 

The momentum was in the Hurlers' favour from the off in this one, but they had nothing to show for it at the break despite two penalty shouts for what looked like clear fouls on hard-working forwards Mike Ali and Dan Pope.

 

However they did get a penalty in the second-half when a Penzance defender handled the ball in the box, but much to the shock of the bumper derby day crowd, normally automatic spot-kick specialist Damon Nicholls fired the ball against the crossbar.

 

Ludgvan were in danger of letting the game slip away at this point, before a tactical decision to push Barrie Prowse further forward quickly paid dividends when he ran through the Magpies' defence to slot home the opener.

 

Nicholls then made up for his penalty miss by curling a spectacular free-kick into the top left-hand corner from 30 yards out and despite going down to 10 men when winger Scott Stevens saw red, the visitors comfortably saw out the game with keeper Jon Fitchett never really having to make a save.

 

Another strong performance from the back foursaw the Hurlers earn their second successive clean sheet to top off a fine win.

Aw, diddums. I expected more resilience from Penwith's media-savvy top club., King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Those naughty Polish partisans and St Just peasants are upsetting the Third Reich again! That nice Mr Goebbels is doing his best for kids today and they don't appreciate him ! Darn'ee,  I call it some old shame.

I feel bad for Praze's opponents next week who won't have a game as per government guidelines 🤷‍♂️

Terribly sorry to hear of the possible covid-19 outbreak at Praze. Hope the whole team will be able to obtain negative test results as soon as possible.  All will now have to self-isolate in  quarantine for up to 14 days while awaiting this. Presumably all their games will be postponed until the tests have happened; and the League President, who decided to postpone today's game between Praze and St Just, has notified all the proper authorities. Best wishes to all for the best possible health outcomes and a successful return to football in November.

Thanks for your kind words Issac and Russell. One player currently isolating due to one of a workmate of his and two others have come down with some of the known symptoms. We’re hoping (and they think) that it isn’t Covid and it’s just the generic cold/flu thing but we have to wait for the results to come back. I’m sure in the fa report it’s a 10 day cool off period now? That may put next weeks game in jeopardy but if the tests come back negative I think we’re good to go. Time will tell though... 2020 is such an awful year!

Threemilestone played good football and finished well today.

Four Lanes with 3 key players missing today found the going frustrating with players out of position.

An incident that saw 3 red cards and a flurry of yellows marred a game that was for the most part played in good spirits.

First reds of the season, it was handbags from both players from where I was. But yes you’re right, that’s the worry now Dave, but we’ve already had players contact us wanting to sign on and help out which is positive. And hopefully the three missing players we had out today will be available for the next few games to see us through.

I didn’t train this week.. thankfully 😂

Training won’t be on this week and I expect Saturdays game too until it’s all cleared up. Hopefully it’s just the flu, we are coming into that season now!

mount ambrose played some decent football and took their 2 chances 

stithians had a stone wall penalty turned away from the ref at 1-0 which would have changed the game we also had a free kick that we scored pulled back because 1 of the players stepped out the wall so to come away from that game without anything is hard to take onwards and upwards we will see what next week brings

Ahh, was the last game a friendly where you'd had a few sent off?

People messaging to join is always good news mate so you guys are obviously doing something right. Hopefully with the developments at Clijah aswell, once complete, you'll also get a few more players coming in too.

Chacewater 6  St.Buryan 0

A minute's silence was observed by both teams for a close family member of a Chacewater Committee member prior to kick off.

Both teams had to change outside of the changing rooms due to Covid regulations (glad it was a sunny afternoon!) but Chacewater were quick out of the blocks and took a 7th minute lead when Sol Murley burst down the right and pulled his cross back for Mark Bell to score with an angled volley.Wave after wave of Chacewater attacks were repelled by the visiting defence before Mark Bell scored again running onto a ball and scoring with a low shot in the 25th minute.Three minutes later it was 3-0 when Dean Hill snapped up a loose ball in the penalty area.In the 35th minute came a fine goal when Dean Hill found Sean Preston and his return pass allowed Dean Hill to run 30 yards to score with a low shot.Just before the interval good work by Will Harvey on the right was finished off with the ball being controlled on his chest by Mark Bell and then a swivel to volley into the net.

St.Buryan defended more resolutely in the second half with their keeper also pulling off some fine saves,they also had a couple of shots just over the crossbar which Russell Grice appeared to have covered.Dean Hill had a goal ruled out for offside before the final goal came in the 70th minute following a pass by James Martin to Thierry Murley on the right and his fine cross was finished off by Mark Bell.

Game well officiated by Kevin Bennetts standing in when no official referee was appointed.

The strikers will take the plaudits for putting the ball into the net but,for me,the first half midfield of Matt Davis,Will Harvey and Sean Preston set the tempo of the match.

Thanks for St.Buryan for coming back to the pub afterwards,always a good bunch of lads down there.

Mullion are a very good young footballing side who will cause teams problems over the season, fully deserved their win. Ref was decent.

I merely hope that if four of your players had covid-19 symptoms, as your League President was informed by your club last Thursday, that all will be healthy before you take any risks that could proliferate the virus. I remember when Marazion Blues played at Rosudgeon  (early 1960s ) and the teams had wooden huts to change in an a Tin bath filled from Burco Boilers for after match wash. No H & S in those days😊

Fond memories. Marazion Blues were still at Rosudgeon in the late nineteen sixties, when, as a ten year old, I saw my first ever Tinners away game there...a 2-1 win with goals from Mike Lawry and Malcolm Lawry.

On Tuesday 22nd Sept, praze trained together.  On the Thursday 2 players reported potential covid symptoms.  On Friday night 2 more reported heavy colds.  The right option was not to play.  The 2 players with symptoms have both been tested and they came back as negative.  Great news. 

Following advice those with heavy colds were not required to be tested.

Government guidelines state we should isolate for 10 days.  We did not train this week so that ends today.

We have spoken to the FA and all good to play tomorrow.   So a false alarm. But in my view, the correct decision.  It could of been covid and no one should risk the potential to spread infection.  The impacts on the players of both teams, the club reputation and subsequent spread to those most vulnerable, just isn't worth the risk.
