St Blazey v Liskeard ON.

Wednesday nights match between St Blazey and Liskeard is ON.

St Blazey have hired in 2 portable floodlights with 4 lights on each one to make sure there is enough lights to cover the grandstand side.

Last week supporters were given refunds although several left early. See Chris on the gate tomorrow night with any issues and he will sort things out if you are able to make it.

Should be a good match. Come and enjoy some good local football.

the top corners you could pretty much not see the ball specially when in the air, temporary lights they had in were a shambles! Player safety comes into it, game simply should of just been reversed with the problems they had against Newquay, game wise liskeard apart from a 5 min spell looked comfortable with a goal within 2 mins and could of had more, blazey poor at the back!

All St Blazey floodlit matches have been rescheduled to Saturdays.
The situation at St Blazey is not unique at this level and poses the question that we have often asked, " are clubs spending their money on overpaid under performing players at the expence of the upkeep of their facilities ''?
Grants are available at this level to upgrade facilities, have they not been applied for?
We went to Sticker on Tuesday to watch the Camelford match, (poor game we thought ) but the facilities there for both players and supporters are exemplary, plus one of their officials told us that they are about to install a new central heating system and upgrade various parts of the changing rooms and clubhouse etc.
We questioned the ability  of such a small club to be able to finance such a project and was told we are careful what we spend our money on, so you can put your own interpretation on that comment.
St Dennis are another club where their investment in the club and its supporters is an example that many so called bigger clubs would do well to follow.
Perhaps the league should insist on an annual report on the condition of all facilities at clubs ( especially electrical items as Dobwalls will confirm ) pre season, and avoid many potential future problems.

I would suggest in addition to that, that clubs maybe take a long hard look at their financial expenditure structure, if as rumoured, they are paying Step 6 footballers the rates that they are.

As I attended both abandoned games, I have given my observations to the league secretary. I suggest anyone with strong opinions should do likewise.

Well said Baldy. Utter shambles, all the good foundations built over the years have gone in 2 seasons.

However the committee hands are tied as they have said before no-one wants the job. Poor buggers hands are tied.

No one wants what job? Looking after the ground?

Paul does a great job as groundsman, many hours spent at the club so 2 teams can rock up and kick a ball about for 90 minutes and go home again, but floodlight repairs are a specialist job, which is not going to be cheap, and I’m guessing not overly easy to arrange in the midst of a global pandemic, when people are still furloughed.
credit to Paul/St Blazey for trying to arrange a temporary solution to the floodlights, just a pity it didn’t provide enough light.

The old adage of no ref = no game isn’t strictly true, as we’ve seen many times down here.
Hats off to all the groundspeople out there. Without them there really would be no football.

Well said Robin, groundsmen work very hard in all winds and weather's with the sole aim of getting games on. The St Blazey groundsman must have been gutted, but as you say lights are for specialists so not his fault. He did his best that's all he could have done.
