Foxhole 0 Newquay 4 (Ferguson pen 36, Flores 52, Burt 79, Colman 82)

Saturday 5th September 2020

Foxhole's failure to capitalise on their domination in the first 20 minutes, when they squandered several golden chances, proved crucial as Newquay successfully weathered the storm, albeit often with some fortune, before ultimately running out comfortable victors. After the post had twice been struck through Kellow's header and James' drive, the visitors went ahead from the spot although Ferguson's weak kick was nearly saved by Lake, who had conceded the penalty after tripping Burnell. Heaton did well to foil James to his left after the break but that was to be virtually the last time his clean sheet was threatened and substitute Flores doubled the lead, tapping home from close range. Although the third didn't arrive until eleven minutes from time there was precious little sign of a comeback in the interim, Burt gleefully finding the net before Coleman rammed a screamer into the top corner to compound the misery.

Hard luck the super Foxes and on to Newlyn East on Tuesday. Well played Newquay. Thanks to Will Annear, Simon Bunt and the numerous visiting linos.

St Newlyn East 0 Foxhole 0

Tuesday 8th September 2020

Foxhole ground out a hard-earned point after a superb display full of grit, resilience and spirit. While the home team enjoyed a lion's share of the possession, they rarely looked capable of finding a way through a determined rearguard action. May was so well protected that he was only extended once when, in the final few minutes, a home forward finally managed to run beyond the outstanding Andrews / Kellow axis only to be denied by the keeper's legs. By that stage, Foxhole were looking every bit as likely to snatch the points, particularly once James was introduced and Rundle was able to relieve some pressure by running at a home defence well served by Seery,

Well played all the super Foxes for a brilliant performance against the odds. Good luck to St Newlyn East. Many thanks to Steve Tootle and the linos.

Foxhole (4-5-1): Stewart May; Ryan Wilkins, Nathan Papaioannou, Steve Kellow, Josh Andrews; Charlie Bickle, Callie Rundle, Jay Manning, Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan; Nathan White.

Foxhole 1 (Probert 33) Perranwell 2 (Rowberry 22, Rose 83)

Saturday 12th September 2020

After another tremendous display, Foxhole were unlucky to bow out of the Senior Cup against St Piran opposition who scraped through thanks to Rose's late header. With the match seemingly heading for extra time, Rose nodded home from close range past a helpless Rundle, who had performed heroically to keep his side in the tie. This was tough on the home team, who had again resisted with tenacity. Manning may have scored within moments of kick off, his effort cannoning off the keeper's legs, before Perranwell began to dominate possession, but their reliance on forty-yard passes from central areas for their young and speedy strikers to chase meant their attacks habitually petered out. Balls from wide areas are typically harder to defend and so it proved today, when Rowberry found the net with a glancing header from Miles' cross.

It was only a week ago that losing a goal prompted an embarrassing capitulation but Foxhole are seemingly now far more resilient already and soon grabbed an equaliser when club legend Andrews showed customary desire to hold off numerous challenges to feed the returning Probert, who calmly lobbed the onrushing keeper. The second half saw Perranwell again on the front foot, although Kerrigan almost notched the game's third goal when finding himself clean through but the chance went begging, which was a shame as it would have given the Foxes the spark they needed as they began to tire in the Goverseth sunshine. Instead, the visitors at last found their shooting boots only to be denied by the woodwork and the brilliance of Rundle, incredibly the fifth different keeper in Foxhole's last four matches, before Rose's winner scuppered dreams of an Easter Monday outing.

Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to Perranwell. Many thanks to Graham Rickard and the linos.

Foxhole (4-5-1): Aydan Rundle; Ryan Wilkins, Nathan Papaioannou, Steve Kellow, Josh Andrews; Charlie Bickle, Callie Rundle, Jay Manning, Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan; Martyn Probert.

Subs: Jacob Mitchell, Jack Oulton, Nathan White.

I'll be happy to receive the Perranwell squad (darinmorse@msn.com)

Foxhole 6 (Probert 2, 80, White 5, James 34, 36, Bickle 86) St Erme 1 (George Brown 81)

Foxhole (4-3-3) Dan Peters; Ryan Wilkins, Nathan Papaioannou, Steve Kellow, Josh Andrews; Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan, Jay Manning; Martyn Probert, Richard James, Nathan White.

Subs: Charlie Bickle, Jacob Mitchell, Dan Olver, Jack Oulton

With both teams' respective opposition suffering covid scares, this hastily arranged friendly offered the opportunity to give game time to the whole squad, which included debutant Olver and returning custodian Peters, in for the cricketer May. Foxhole went two up in no time with fine finishes from Probert and White, who was then denied an even better goal when Kerrigan was penalised for a push. James teed up chances for both Couch, whose header was cleared off the line, and for Kellow, whose goal-bound header was brilliantly tipped over, before James notched the third with a first-time effort from twenty yards using the outside of his right foot. Shortly after, James's centre was met by the head of Couch, but again the keeper was equal to it only to be then beaten direct from the resultant James corner.

Changing ends four down was a little harsh on St Erme, who had played some decent stuff without posing any threat in the box. This changed after the break as the visitors' numerical advantage in midfield caused the home defence to suddenly appear shaky; fortunately Peters cut an imposing figure. With the Foxes having taken the foot off the pedal, St Erme suffered few alarming moments until they presented a couple of gifts late on, Probert latching on to a wayward backpass to again display exemplary coolness for his third in two games since re-signing, before Bickle capitalised on a heavy touch by the keeper to roll the ball home. Inbetween, George Brown has grabbed a consolation his side had more than earned.

Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to St Erme. Thanks to Alan Howells and the linos.

I will be pleased to receive the St Erme squad (darinmorse@msn.com)

St Teath 3 (Brown 7, 49, Magyar 74) Foxhole 2 (Couch 22, Probert 42)

Defensive frailties were again cruelly exposed as Foxhole snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. After recovering from conceding an early goal to Brown, who latched on to Hicks' ball to slot home, and being indebted to May for a couple of fine saves as St Teath's young strikers found themselves clear, the Foxes reached the break ahead, thanks to a brilliant long-range effort from Couch and a clever finish from Probert following a great turn. Changing ends meant the away side ostensibly had the benefit of both the slope and the wind, and they began the second half seemingly determined to finish their hosts off, only to find Thompson in top form. However, seconds after Hewett had headed Rundle's inswinging corner off the line, Brown again proved too quick for an injury-ravaged rearguard that was already missing Andrews, to poke home the equaliser. While Foxhole continued to press, St Teath always looked just as likely to grab the deciding fifth goal on the break, and so it proved, Magyar thumping a screamer into the top corner from miles out.

Well played the Super Foxes. Congratulations to St Teath. Thanks to Dave Sellars and the linos.

Foxhole (4-3-3): Stewart May; Dan Olver, Nathan Papaioannou, Steve Kellow, Ryan Wilkins; Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan, Richard James; Jay Manning, Martyn Probert, Nathan White.

Subs: Callie Rundle, Jacob Mitchell, Sam Mitchell.

St Teath: Craig Thompson, Mike Hewett, Dan Jerram-Smith, Jack Tindall, James Richardson, Dan Hicks, Roland Magyar, Tom Treverton, Sam Brown, Steve Gulley, Dan Wren.

Subs: Adam Clemence, Joe Hocking, Ethan Sanders.

Marjons 2 (Pritchard 2, McDonald 35) Foxhole 2 (James 50, 55)

The arrival of talismanic striker Richard Griffin at the break provided the vital spark to a Foxes outfit who had looked dead and buried, his sheer presence and drive creating impetus for James to crack home two beauties. Finding themselves a goal down to Pritchard's confident finish within three minutes, Foxhole had no time to adjust to a strangely swirling wind and the peculiar challenges inevitably produced by a plastic pitch, the early withdrawal of Couch only adding to their problems. Marjons' second, McDonald ruthlessly capitalising on casual play in and around the box, seemed to have settled the game as early as the thirty-sixth minute, but the second half saw a much improved performance. By then, the outstanding Andrews and Oulton appeared impregnable at the heart of the defence; however, despite enjoying far more of the ball and forcing a succession of corners, the visitors were unable to find the winner their spirited display deserved, a scenario that was inconceivable at half-time.

Well played the Super Foxes. Good luck to Marjons. Thanks to Aaron Reed and the linos.

Fair report tbh although a draw was a fair result for me with Marjon comfortably being the better team in first half and Foxhole the second. Credit where it’s due, Foxhole were a good bunch of lads who played the game in a good spirit. The constant, needless long delays in play made it a difficult watch it has to be said...

Torpoint 1 (Jake White 44) Foxhole 0

Magnificent Foxhole succumbed only to White's speculative free-kick moments from the end of a first half in which they defended stubbornly, limiting their high-flying hosts merely to sporadic chances. Torpoint enjoyed far more of the possession throughout but they lacked the guile and cutting edge required to break down a disciplined Foxes rearguard action again typified by Andrews, whose tenacious approach served to coax similarly excellent performances from his team-mates, in particular Wilkins, Mitchell and the returning Austin, whose composure on the ball offered a welcome different dimension to the engine room. Backed by the wind after the break, there was some optimism that the visitors could yet snatch at least a point but, other than a couple of half chances that both fell to Kerrigan, they were unable to offer sufficient support to the willing James. The commitment to the cause, however, remained palpable, auguring well for the rest of the campaign.

Well done to the Super Foxes for another fantastic effort. Well played and good luck to Torpoint. Thanks to Alan Shaw and the linos.

Foxhole (4-5-1): Stewart May; Jay Manning, Nathan Papaioannou, Ryan Wilkins, Josh Andrews; Martin Probert, Danny Austin, Charlie Bickle, Levi Kerrigan, Jacob Mitchell; Richard James.

Torpoint: Callum Bays, Adam Brayson, Matthew Cotter, Ryan Easterbrook, William Ferguson, Jamie Hussey, Dan Rogers, Thomas Rowe, Christopher Westall, Matthew Westall, Jake White.

Mount Gould 5 (Moore 18, 53, 75, Brook 39, Alexander 56) Foxhole 0

Despite another superb battling performance depleted Foxhole slumped to the bottom of the league, although they will take some comfort in the knowledge they have now already played four of the top five away from home. With May still feeling the effects of last week’s knock, Baker became our seventh different ‘keeper this season, and he enjoyed a fine debut with a string of great saves and some impressive kicking. However, being also without Oulton, Austin, Whetter, Rundle, White and Olver, it was always likely to be a case of damage limitation against a side who could easily compete several leagues higher.

Mount Gould were kept at bay until the eighteenth minute when outside-right Moore cut inside Niles to lash home, and the Foxes’ hard-working approach successfully frustrated their opponents until centre-forward Brook smashed an unstoppable, dipping thunderbolt through Baker shortly before the break. When Mount Gould added two more within eleven minutes of the restart, first through Moore’s far post finish and then Alexander’s drive from outside the box, there were fears that Foxhole could capitulate, especially when Probert and Kerrigan joined James in hobbling off to afford Lake a rare opportunity to play outfield.

However, Foxhole again continued to frustrate their hosts with disciplined defending throughout the side, while also striving for a deserved consolation. On another day Couch’s header may have pitched just the right side of the upright, and his free-kick may have kissed the underside of the bar rather than thumping against it, while Lake also twice went close, first bending a dead-ball that had the home’ keeper scrambling, before his goal-bound inswinging corner was headed off the line by Pringle. Baker, though, could do nothing to prevent Moore completing his hat-trick with a close-range header with quarter of an hour remaining, but his outstanding display, coupled with another monumental effort against the odds by the lads, were positives we must hold on to in the coming weeks when surely a run of home matches beckons.

Foxhole (4-5-1): Callum Baker; Nathan Papaioannou, Saul Niles, Ryan Wilkins, Josh Andrews; Jay Manning, Martin Probert, Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan, Jacob Mitchell; Richard James.

Subs: Charlie Bickle, Anton Lake.

Mount Gould: James Alexander, Lance Bailey, Danny Brook, James Fuller, Bailey Gamble, Dane Hewings, Fabian Johnson-Ewers, Benn Mcilvaney, David Moore, Dean Turner, Chris Wright.

Subs: James Grinrod, Matt Hawes, Lewis Pringle, Owen Pritchard, Teddy Sullivan.

Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to Mount Gould. Many thanks to Allen Johns and the linos.

I reckon that, since the start of last season, Foxhole have played 27 League and cup games. Due to bad weather, lockdown, away cup draws and quirks of the fixtures, incredibly, of the 27, only 8 have been at home. (In no way is this meant as criticism of the fixture secretary who does a great job and whose task is unenviable).

Foxhole 2 (Rundle 64, Papaioannou 80) St Dominick 2 (Ryall 61, Rogers 87)

Foxhole came within three minutes of their first win of the season only for Rogers to bundle home a loose ball following a scramble in the six yard box. It was tough on the home side who had again produced a sensationally gritty display to frustrate their fancied opponents, particularly when facing a typical Goverseth gale in the first half. Keeping their shape impressively, the Foxes restricted St Dominick to shots from distance until Ryall cut in from the left to blast the ball past Baker. However Rundle soon equalised direct from a corner before Papaioannou raced on to a through ball to beat Blatchford. While the visitors enjoyed the majority of play, and had an effort cleared from the line in either half, their ecstasy at the late equaliser was a vivid indication of just how well the super Foxes had played.

Good luck to St Dominick. Many thanks to Paul Roberts and the linos.

Foxhole AFC require a physio / sports therapist to support the first team players and coaching staff on match days.

Key tasks include:
- Helping to prepare players for matches (Saturday afternoons and occasionally midweek)
- Providing run-on cover during games
- Maintaining the first aid kit and equipment
- Attendance at training nights would be beneficial but not essential.

The role would suit someone currently studying for their physio / sports therapist qualification. You should hold a relevant sports first aid qualification or be willing to undertake the FA accredited course (provided by the club).

Foxhole AFC also require an assistant referee / linesperson for their first team on match days (Saturday afternoons and occasionally midweek). Previous experience is not essential as full training will be arranged.

Foxhole AFC are also looking to supplement their existing East Cornwall Premier League playing squad.

If interested, please contact me on 07881738008 or darinmorse@msn.com; first team manager Anton Lake at antonlake@hotmail.co.uk; secretary Dave Bunt on 07980520046; or twitter @foxholestars

Foxhole 0 St Blazey 2 (Swiggs 44, Lawrence 67)

While they may justifiably point to suffering the misfortune of striking the crossbar no less than three times in the first half (twice through debutant Kilbey and once by Couch), ultimately Foxhole were well-beaten, having been out-fought and out-thought by a typically combative St Blazey outfit, who just looked hungrier. The Foxes had come within seconds of successfully combatting a strong wind before the change of ends, only for Swiggs to find the net fortuitously from close range following a corner. Up until then, the long ball tactics of the visitors had posed few concerns for the home team for whom James also twice went close. However, the expected second-half siege on the St Blazey goal after the break failed to materialise, as Prynn, who had appeared decidedly shaky early doors, was able to preserve his clean sheet with relative comfort. Instead, another dead-ball did for Foxhole when Lawrence bundled home Clarke’s headed assist.

Well done to both teams. Many thanks to Will Annear and the linos.

Foxhole (4-3-3): Stewart May; Dan Olver, Nathan Papaioannou, Josh Andrews, Ryan Wilkins; Jay Manning, Jake Couch, Levi Kerrigan; Richard James, Martyn Probert, Chris Kilbey.

St Blazey (4-3-3): James Prynn: Martin Davy, Bailey Trethewey, Chris Warburtion, Ross Willcock: Ben Lawrence, Bruce Campbell, Charlie Prynn: Chris Dingle, Ryan Clark, Olly Swiggs.

Speaking to a Foxhole player earlier it sounds like a St Austell first team striker (Kilbey) was drafted in last minute in a desperate attempt to gain some much needed points. Strange tactics for morale from the Foxhole management. As it resulted it sounds like he was ineffective so whT does this do for Foxhole morale because I can only assume someone was left out to accommodate him.

Veryan 4 (Vincent 62, Best 65, Trebilcock 85, pen 87) Foxhole 2 (Deadman 22, 52)

When the returning Deadman put his side two up early in the second half it appeared that the Foxes’ long wait for a victory would finally be over, but a lacklustre last thirty minutes handed the home team an unlikely, albeit ultimately deserved, three points. Foxhole had been good value for their lead after dominating the first half, but they only had Deadman’s early strike to show for their superiority, his free kick deflecting off the wall to completely wrong-foot impressive keeper Richards, who was shortly to react brilliantly to push away James’ low drive. James should have doubled the advantage but blazed over when well-placed; this, and other squandered opportunities, were to prove decisive, although the visitors may justifiably point to somehow being denied two stonewall penalties, one for hands against Trebilcock, before Cope astonishingly got away with chopping down James. Not for the first time this season, an encouraging start has been superseded by a pretty dismal climax, which Veryan today fully exploited, never looking back once Vincent had planted Trudgeon’s deep cross past May. In no time the hitherto anonymous Best had raced clear to equalise, before Trebilcock smashed in a scintillating volley. Papaioannou then fouled Vincent to allow Trebilcock to net the fourth from the spot, the final whistle thankfully soon putting an end to the carnage.

On to Roche away next week. Good luck to Veryan. Thanks to Will Annear and the linos.

Foxhole (4-4-2): Stewart May; Nathan Papaioannou, Ryan Wilkins, Josh Andrews, Saul Niles; Oliver Deadman, Callie Rundle, Jake Couch, Jay Manning; Martin Probert, Richard James.
