Polzeath Duchy League Application

Recommended Posts

As some Duchy League members will know, we have applied to entered a team into the Duchy League for the forthcoming season. As we cannot attend the AGM, we thought it might be an idea to introduce the club on the forum.

The club was formed in 2017 to play in the Cornwall FA Flexi-League at Callywith and proud to of been actively involved on the committee since the beginning. Since forming have achieved FA Charter Standard status and feel by entering a team to play on a Saturday into the Duchy League, it allows us to progress and develop further.

We have found a site for a permanent home, constructing a brand-new pitch and changing facility in the Polzeath area and are in the early stages of getting the project moving.

In the interim, we have agreed with Camelford to use their facilities for our home matches and they offer a well-maintained pitch, great changing facilities and an on-site clubhouse for after game refreshments.

Thank you all for taking the time to consider our application.

but it is a valid point. With camel ford only having one side and someone the best facilities in Cornwall. But also it would be good for the league to welcome a new club that have ambitions to build there own pitch and facilities good luck to you.

Yeah fair point, there are 2 ways of looking at it, good to have new teams but if they are attracting players of Camelfords quality, maybe they should be considered for Duchy prem, not Duchy 2 where teams losing by a cricket score are going to find it difficult to put a side out each week if they are going to be demoralised by heavy losses equalling more teams folding before season completed! We can’t afford to loose any more clubs. Or, instead of starting a new club, why not strengthen a club already in the Duchy system?

Prime example, Southgate looking for a manager- while a new club in Lanson trying to enter Duchy league? Why not join Southgate and help strengthen an already existing good club?

Jon you make an excellent point. But there does seem to be more people that would rather start a new team than join a club already going. I could name so many clubs that have packed up and not been seen since that were great strong clubs. Duchy committee always seem to be quite well organised so I’m interested to see what the out comes is of the agm for next season.

Very good point and I agree with you that it might be better off to strengthen an existing club if they attract the quality of players that you suggest. The lower teams in Duchy have suffered enough with previous teams dropping down with high quality of players and it ruins football for the team that actually play that level.

with regards to Southgate and the new team that has applied, we contacted them and unfortunately they do not have the experience or quality to add to our club and due to the lack of players in Launceston as it is we suggested they locate elsewhere as they would struggle to get a team and they will now be playing out of Callington.

Thank you for taking the time to reply gents.

JonColenzo - I am sure our Flexi team has not won by double figures or indeed a cricket score! The team was set up by a core bunch of mates who have added some more mates and just enjoy playing together and having fun! The said core consists mainly of retired players, players who have never played competitive football and players who could not commit to playing every Saturday. Yes, a couple of our registered players have featured for Camelford, however they were not starting every game or indeed featuring every game for them so happy to play a game every three weeks with their mates for Polzeath. We respect the rules and guidelines and would not intend on breaking them.

Since we formed (three years ago) we have developed a vision and a goal of what we wanted to achieve. Entering into the Flexi league has given us the foundations to form a sustainable club with good local sponsors and a better understanding of the situation. We now feel this is the right time for us to step into Saturday football and naturally progress as any ambitious club would want to do.

I cannot see any Camelford player moving away from the club to play for Polzeath in Duchy 2! Especially as it's Reg Hamblys 30th year, they would all want to be part of that fantastic achievement I am sure.

We are not a reserve team and we want to establish and develop our own players who want play week in week out for Polzeath and ultimately enjoy it.
