Longest Away Trips In The FA Vase.

Recommended Posts

Parkway have been drawn away to Hebburn in the FA Vase last 8. This works out at 406 miles ground to ground, think this has only been beaten by St Blazey who were away to Crook Town in the 2005/6 FA Vase with a figure of 423 miles ground to ground. Has anybody travelled further from Cornwall, and is this indeed a record for all FA Competitions?

Falmouth travelled to Bedlington Terriers (Northumberland) 480 miles approxin the Vase which is the official longest journey in the F A competition history (Cup/Trophy/Vase since it all began in 1872)

Longer than Plymouth to Carlisle(388)  and even in the early days when Queens Park (Scotland) went to London (411)for a F A cup tie.

I've said it before on the same type of thread

RNAS Culdrose once travelled to play Lossiemouth in the Navy Cup (and won), a round trip of roughly 1450 miles at today's distances. It was longer in the past as there were less motorways, bypasses, etc.

Surely they'd have flown : )

On the same day 2000-01 (F A Vase 4)  Porthleven travelled to Marske (nr.Middlesborough  452miles)

The Falmouth  party travelled in the Elkie Brooks touring double decker luxury bus (courtesy of Al Hodge) whose son Luke scored the goal in a 4-1 aet defeat.

Also in the team that day for Falmouth was Torpoint boy Ian Stephens who may give you Plymouth  people a run down of the journey

Other long Vase journeys  Bodmin to Billingham  and Tavistock to Pickering

Anothe long journey in the Post Office Cup Final   Falmouth PO  travelled to Leith in Scotland in the mid 90's

Cornwall Under 18's away to Durham U18's in a FA County Youth Semi Final back in 1999/2000.

Pick up's commencing in Truro and onto a Newcastle Hotel .

Long ol' journey that was.

Match played at Durham City FC.  and lost  3 - 1.

Just found another long trek  1976.   441 miles

Rothmans Overseas Cup  Evenwood Town (Co.Durham)  1---Falmouth Town  0   stayed at York (courtesy of Rothmans ££'s)

A season later in the same competition Falmouth  flew to Jersey (First Tower United) winning 3-2? and expect the expenses again were covered by Rothmans.

Must have been longer for some of the postmen mike, because only a few were from Falmouth. Think Andy Angove  from Penzance in goal. And Chris Rowe from Camborne were two.
