CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE

(from Mike Newcombe)

Altarnon has tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Premier Division after going down 3-1 at Boscastle. The home team were at full strength and did enough throughout the game to deserve the win. Sam Haddy hit a brace, the other Boscastle goal coming off an Altarnon defender. Josh Smith scored the Altarnon reply with both teams reduced to ten men near the end when the Boscastle keeper and an Altarnon forward saw red.

Leaders Stoke Climsland returned to winning ways with a 3-2 success at Tintagel. The hosts were hampered by losing their goalkeeper through injury late in the first half, but this didn’t affect the result in the end as Stoke already led 2-1. New signing Reece Brown scored a brace for the visitors with Jake Bellison completing their tally. Tintagel replied with goals from Mark Grylls and Diogo Mendes.

St Merryn had an important victory in their fight against relegation. They raced into a wind assisted two goal lead at Saltash United Thirds, both goals scored by Kevin Allen. Saltash fought back to level before half time with a Phil Kombostiotis brace. The hosts then dominated the second half but a defensive mistake ten minutes from time let in Rob Centini to secure a 3-2 win for St Merryn.

AFC Bodmin drew two all at home to St Breward. Mike Horne and Andy Seymour scored for Bodmin with Seb Burden and Matt Hamley replying for the visitors.

Gunnislake strode to a 6-0 win at Holywell/Bay Cubert Athletic with a young side putting in a powerful and dominant performance.

Last week Lanivet Inn travelled to Foxhole reserves and beat the Division One leaders. A week on Foxhole gained ample revenge with a 5-1 win at Lanivet. Foxhole were slightly strengthened by their first team game being postponed but were deserved winners. Jamie Robinson hit a brace with Ben Bould, Jake Couch and Jacob Mitchell completing the Foxhole tally. Spencer Hartill hit the Lanivet consolation. It wasn’t a disaster for Lanivet despite losing their 100 percent record as Foxhole are most affected by the withdrawal of FC Tavyside on Friday night from the league and lose six points gained against that team.

Lifton won their third game out of four over Pensilva in all competitions as they came from behind to win 4-2. With Lifton controlling the early stages they found themselves behind with some defensive errors leading to a tap in for Tim Shearman. With the game breaking down to a physical contest Lifton were level just before half time as George Murrain was felled in the box and the spot kick was dutifully put away by man of the match Tom Hancock. The second half started fairly even with each team exchanging shots at goal. Then a mix up from a throw in gave Hancock his second of the game. Lifton then added a third with substitute Sean Tucker scoring a header with his second touch of the game. Lifton’s fourth was scored by captain Jacob Murrain who latched on to a free kick ahead of the keeper. Pensilva scored a consolation goal when a mix up left Karl Gross one on one with the Lifton keeper with two minutes to play.

Dobwalls reserves leapfrog St Minver reserves and are off the bottom of the table after a 2-1 away success gives them a first league win of the season. Ben Gaynor scored both Dobwalls goals with Josh Caddy replying for St Minver.

Nanpean Rovers stretched their lead at the top of Division Two after beating Lostwithiel reserves 5-3.

Week St Mary drew one all at home to Lifton reserves. Paul Banks of WSM traded goals with Lifton’s Alex Sandercock.

Calstock and St Stephen reserves shared six goals. Ian Rooke, Barney Tossell and Ben Williams scored for Calstock with Ben Jones, Stuart Kesson-Smith and Greg Madden replying for St Stephen.

North Hill were well beaten 4-0 at home by St Cleer reserves. Taylor Johns and Joel Mitchell hit a brace apiece for St Cleer.

Division Three leaders St Columb Major enhanced their title challenge hopes with a 7-2 win at Gunnislake reserves. Dom Roberts hit a hat trick with Conor Doocey adding a brace for the leaders. The visitors remaining goals came from John Middleditch and Mike Bale with Ben Farrar striking both Gunnislake goals.

St Dominick reserves dropped their first points of the season when held to a goalless draw at Bude Town Thirds.

Roche reserves still seek a first point. They went down 3-1 at home to Queens Rangers. Sam Rowse scored a brace for Rangers with Alex Rogers getting a goal on his debut. Joe Burnett hit the Roche reply.

St Mawgan reserves beat Grampound 4-1. Lee Bryant hit a brace with Luke Haynes and Chris Jordan also on target for St Mawgan. Shane Weeks hit the Grampound consolation.

Delabole United won 3-2 at Biscovey. Gary Camps scored both Biscovey goals, but the visitors won with a Dan Edwards brace and a Mac Irwin goal.

Nanpean rovers 5 Lostwithiel res 3

Absolutely gutted today to not come away with anything, so proud of the boys today we matched nanpean today and at times had them on the ropes

They are a quality side by far the best in the division but we gave them a run for their money today 4-3 late in the game it seemed as though we where going to nick something but their quality shone through to take the points
