CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE

(from Mike Newcombe)

Altarnon maintained the unbeaten start to the season in beating Premier Division leaders Gunnislake in a hard-fought battle at Tresibbett. This was an evenly fought game with the hosts just shading the game and was decided by just one goal scored midway through the second half by Altarnon’s Sam Wade.

Stoke Climsland were a little fortunate to get the 2-1 win in their derby match at Saltash United Thirds. The first half was evenly contested with Rob Eddie giving the visitors the lead from the penalty spot. Saltash hit back to equalise just before half time with a neat header from Troy Harris. Saltash dominated large parts of the second half with the only goal coming against the run of play from Andrew Spokes. Try as hard as they could, Saltash were unable to force an equaliser.

Tintagel picked up just a second point of the season from a one all home draw with high-flying St Breward but were still disappointed as the had the vast majority of the play. Harley Westlake scored for Tintagel with Matt Hamley replying for St Breward.

Foxhole tightened their grip at the top of Division One following a 2-1 home win over Dobwalls Reserves. Richard James scored twice in the first half to put the hosts in a strong position. Ben Gaynor pulled a goal back around the hour mark, but Foxhole had enough left to hang on to claim the points.

Pensilva eased away from the relegation places with an 8-1 thrashing of FC Tavyside. Jack Penhaligon hit a hat trick with Sam Rogers and Stuart Anderson adding a brace apiece. Barry McConnell was the other home marksman with Mark Lewis hitting the visitor’s consolation.

Lostwithiel reserves gave up home advantage with their own ground unfit to play their Division Two match with Southgate Seniors on the 4G pitch at Launceston College. Southgate ran out 5-1 winners with Adam Scott, Craig Charnock, Josh Barron, Anthony Coles and Wayne Francome getting a goal apiece.

Leaders Nanpean Rovers had an emphatic 8-0 win at North Hill.

Ashley Small hit a hat trick as Calstock were 4-3 winners at St Eval Spitfires. Ian Rooke scored the other Calstock goal with Shane Ward, Matt Hawke and Lee Gallagher replying for St Eval.

In Division Three with Biscovey’s ground unfit their game was reversed to Gunnislake. An amazing game ensued with nine goals in a frantic first half with Gunnislake reserves going into the break 5-4 up. However, they were unable to hold the advantage and Biscovey hit back with two second half goals to win 6-5. Gary Camps scored a brace for Biscovey with Jacob Adams, Luke Tregidgo, Matt Waller and Jordan Barnard adding a goal apiece. Gunnislake’s scorers were Andy Brown with two, James Andrews, James Skinner and Darren Sambells.

Delabole United move up to third after beating North Petherwin reserves 2-0 with a goal in each half. Dan Edwards and Sam Turner were the scorers.

Luke Haynes hit a hat trick and Lee Bryant added a brace as St Mawgan beat St Anns Chapel 7-2. Declan Carling and Matt Lamb completed the hosts tally.

St Newlyn East confirmed a home last sixteen tie by winning Group A of the Duchy Knock Out cup after beating AFC Bodmin 4-0. Lucas Moses gave them an early lead after an assist from Dan Parsonage. Brodie Mitchell doubled the lead on forty minutes and added the third with a good strike from just outside the box. The scoring was completed by Josh Cook to give the hosts a comfortable passage to the knockout stages.

In the Shoe Boy League Cup Boscastle reserves won the shootout to top Group D beating Grampound 5-2 with Johnny Strout the hero of the day getting four of the hosts goals. Jason Seldon added the other Boscastle goal with Dean Dunn and Ryan Morcom replying for Grampound. Boscastle progress to a home last sixteen draw whilst Grampound will have to settle for an away draw.

Lostwithiel Res 1 Southgate 5

Poor performance today from us. Let down by key players who pulled out last minute left us with a thin squad. Southgate are very good they dominated the ball and are a massive threat from set peices but also played great football on a wonderful 4G surface will be well worth promotion come the end of the season

We did have the odd chance but nothing clear cut. We go again next week away to queen's ranger's in the cup

Saltash 1-2 Stoke Climsland

Credit where credits due and respect to every team we play this season. But my lads dug in deep yesterday, a much improved display showing fight and passion and discipline off the ball. The first 40 mins was a very solid defensive display. Going 1 0 up also hitting the post and counter attacking. Saltash score with their only effort on target in the first half. A massive confidence and morale boosting win for my lads. Thank you to Saltash FC for making us feel welcome and giving us a good hard fought game.

Matt
