CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE

(Received from the league's Mike Newcombe)

In the Duchy Knock Out Cup Foxhole reserves held Premier Division leaders Gunnislake to a one all at home with the goals coming in the first half. Richard James scored for Foxhole with Liam Bryant replying for Gunnislake. As a result, Gunnislake qualify for a home draw in the last sixteen knock out stage while Foxhole finish as runners up and get an away draw as a result.

Altarnon won 3-1 to top Group A with Boscastle having to settle for second place. Adam Porter scored a brace for Altarnon with Stuart Cole getting their other goal. Dan Capstick replied for Boscastle.

Pensilva came from behind to secure second place in Group G. They trailed at home to Tintagel to a first half Shaun Keeble penalty. The hosts put in a much better display after half time with Tim Shearman equalising before a goal from Jack Penhaligon and a brace from Blake Penhaligon gave them a 4-1 victory.

Group H will come down to the return match between FC Tavyside and Mevagissey reserves to see who will progress with Holywell/ Cubert. Mevagissey put themselves in prime position with a 5-3 win at Mary Tavy but will need to win the reverse fixture as their goal difference is slightly inferior. Brandon Chapman scored a brace for Mevagissey with their other goals shared by Brandon Trudgeon, Tom Rawlings and Lloyd Grose. Mark Lewis hit a hat trick in reply for the hosts.

St Newlyn East qualify as winners of Group A without playing after Polperro reserves thrashed AFC Bodmin 8-0 to ensure Newlyn can’t be caught. Ethan Powell hit a hat trick with Anthony Harman, Andy Cordner, Josh Pearn and a Luke Cloke brace completing the rout. Polperro are now firm favourite to clinch the second slot.

Group E is a real mixed bag as both Gorran and Tregrehan Mills suffered point deductions in previous games. Tregrehan travelled to the leaders Stoke Climsland and won 5-1 to put themselves right back in the hunt to top the group. Scott Foster, Matt May, Tom Foster, Glyn James and Ben Colquhoun scored for Tregrehan with Andy Snowden getting the Stoke consolation. The final group match will decide the final placings but whatever the result Stoke will finish either first or second and qualify for a knockout game.

In a dead rubber in Group F runners up Saltash United Thirds won 7-0 at St Minver reserves. Troy Harris hit a hat trick with Jake Ahanonu, Nto-Mbah Chinomso, Dan Crooks and Phil Kombostios completing the rout.

Southgate Seniors strode through their group in the Shoe Boy League Cup with Jake Hobson hitting four goals in a 7-1 win at St Cleer reserves which took them to their fourth win from the four group games. Liam Cairns added a brace for the visitors with Adam Scott also finding the target. Brad Lane scored the St Cleer consolation from the penalty spot, but St Cleer will qualify for an away knock out draw providing they avoid a heavy defeat to Roche in their last match.

In Group D Grampound and Boscastle reserves fought out a one all draw on a heavy pitch in a bad tempered and scrappy affair. Dylan Fox slipped the ball under the keeper to give Grampound a second half lead. This sparked Boscastle into action and after a defensive mix up Corrie Crook nipped in to equaliser. Grampound had a couple of chances near the end but couldn’t convert. Both sides will qualify for the knockout stages but with them level on points and Grampound just ahead by one goal difference its all to play for in the return.

Delabole United qualified for a home draw with an unblemished record in Group E after a 5-3 win at Gunnislake reserves. Sam Turner scored a brace for the visitors with Mac Irwin, Ben French and Churlton Fairman completing their tally. Darren Sambells replied with a brace for Gunnislake with new signing Keiran Lincoln getting their other goal. Gunnislake will qualify providing they don’t lose heavily in their final match with North Hill.

St Dominick reserves confirmed a home last sixteen draw after topping Group H after a 5-4 win at Lostwithiel reserves. It was a spirited performance from the hosts against their high-class rivals. Callum Chillingworth scored a brace for Lostwithiel with Jordan Richards and an own goal completing their tally. Keiran Jasper hit a brace for St Dominick with further goals from Adam Snowden, Spencer Barrett and Charlie Hickman giving the visitors the win.

St Stephen reserves will finish as runners up in Group A after beating St Anns Chapel 7-0. The game was only four minutes old when Matt Hammer headed in a Ben Jones cross and the lead was doubled four minutes later when Callum Oldham dribbled his way into the box and Hammer scored from his short pass. It took until the 39th minute to get the third goal scored by Greg Madden, and right on the halftime whistle Dean Yelland’s cross from way out on the right wing landed in the top left-hand corner of the goal. Thirteen minutes into the second half a ping pong sort of goal as the ball was fired at the St Ann’s goal until it finally fell to James Allen who made no mistake from 15 yards. Ben Jones then scored with another shot in the 80th minute to make it 6-0, and on 85 minutes a free-kick taken by Tom Harris was headed home by Callum Oldham complete the scoring.

St Columb Major finish top of Group H after Dom Roberts scored five of their goals in an 8-4 defeat of Week St Mary. Scott Taylor, Conor Doocey and Harry Anderson where the other home scorers.

North Petherwin reserves are Group F winners after their 3-2 win at St Mawgan reserves. The hosts finish second and get an away knock out draw. Rob Fawcett and Tom Vose were the St Mawgan scorers.

Berryn Phillips scored the only goal of the game as Calstock beat Biscovey 1-0 in a dead rubber in Group B.

St Newlyn East enhanced their chances of a Premier Division title challenge with a 5-0 defeat of neighbours Holywell/Cubert Athletic. The game saw a welcome return to goal scoring form for Martyn Probert who hit a hat trick. Brodie Mitchell struck from thirty yards with Sam Lawrence first to follow up and score after Mitchell had a penalty saved.

St Breward were 3-0 winners at St Merryn aided by two own goals from Neil Reekie and Jordan Carthew. Matt Hammer scored the other St Breward goal as they move into second place in the table.

Lanivet Inn playing just a third league game of the season in Division One remain with a 100 percent record after beating second placed Gorran 2-1 at home. Lanivet took a first half lead but a determined Gorran side levelled early in the second half. Jacob Turner scored both home goals the winner coming from a direct free kick.

In Division Two leaders Nanpean Rovers beat St Eval Spitfires 4-1 to maintain their title challenge. Jordi Willmott and Reece Willmott scored a brace apiece with Lee Gallagher replying for St Eval.

Bude Reserves moved second on goal difference after a stunning 8-1 win at Lifton Reserves where Steve Hackett hit four goals. Ryan Leverton, Dave Hales, Steve Box and Brad Palmer where the other Bude marksmen with Liam Rich netting the home consolation.

Bude Town thirds won the only scheduled game in Division Three with a 2-1 success at Queens Rangers. It was the home side that took an 18th minute lead with a Phil Walmsley strike from twenty yards. Bude equalised with a screaming shot from distance from Harry Dymond in the 25th minute and went ahead ten minutes later from Aidan Slade. The second half saw Rangers search for an equaliser on a heavy pitch but both sides showed the lack of recent football producing a scrappy game overall.

Div One - Lanivet Inn 2 - 1 Gorran

My first visit to Lanivet's lovely new venue didn't disappoint. Both sides knocked the ball about well and push forward fast at every opportunity. Lanivet had slightly more of the play in the first half but the Gorran defence was solid and it took a nasty deflection to break the deadlock and see the home side a goal up at the break.

Gorran came out for the second half with all guns blazing and were deservedly on level terms within ten minutes. A few minutes later a direct free kick somehow eluded the Gorran defence  and Lanivet's lead was restored. With ten minutes remaining Lanivet were awarded what looked to me like a fairly soft penalty but the spot kick was even softer and the score remained 2-1.

Two impressive sides and an entertaining game to watch.

Lostwithiel Res 4 st Dominick Res 5

Really good game at the KG5 today, losty will be extremely disappointed not to get something from today after a very good performance going forward, st Dominick are a good side who will score plenty of goals but leaky at the back, defensive errors from both sides today which led to goals, both sides played good football on what was a decent surface, both sides in the end being direct and causing each others defence problems, draw would have a been a fair result but we'll take the positives and move forward to calstock away next weekend LTID

St Newlyn East 5 Holywell & Cubert 0

Probert x3, Mitchell, Lawrence

A cagey start to the local derby but once SNE went 1up result was never in doubt. We certainly weren’t at our best with some poor decision making and poor passing but a nice win which sets up a big Junior Cup tie next week.

St Columb Major 8-4 Week St Mary FT

A very impressive display this afternoon by major considering they were also playing with 10 men for about 60mins. Up the major!

Cracking result would have travelled down to watch but had to work. Possible trophy or 2 at the end of the season ?
