Open Referee Meeting- All Welcome to attend

[Falmouth Helston RA]

All of the football community are invited to our open meeting on Friday 8th November at Helston FC. It would be great to see as many of you attending and making it an interesting, informative evening as possible.

Please confirm attendance via private message or by emailing our secretary on lukewilkes@rocketmail.com. Any subjects you would like covering would be welcomed.

Hopefully this event was well attended by all the touchline referees who see the game in a different light to the man in the middle, and make a decision depending on which team they support.       
Well done Falmouth Helston Referee Society for trying to liase with some of the regular critics of referees to try and explain the laws of the game and how they need to be administered.
An opportunity also for those who have the time, and are able to take the regular abuse they will have to endure, to learn something of the background of refereeing.
It would be interesting to know how many touchline referees took the opportunity to attend? and voice their well rehearsed opinions.

Not one official from a club turned up. We had a league official, who is an ex-member, and two guests. Very disappointing and I think the excuse that we don’t talk to clubs can’t be used anymore as we gave the perfect platform to have a good dialogue with them and it’s fallen on deaf ears.

That is a sad reflection on the  clubs who should hang their heads when they have the opportunity to right all the perceived wrongs they see every week, but don't have the stomach to face the people they criticise week in week out.
Yes there are good referees and poor ones, the same applies to the players and thats why referees are needed.
Our advice is to get off their backs and allow them to officiate to the best of their ability, or if you feel that you can do better, with the present shortage of referees, you will never have a better opportunity to join their ranks.
Its worth mentioning that neither of us or any of our family are referees, so our opinions are a result of our love of the game, and the realisation that no ref = no game.

BHD, out of interest back in the seventies two seasons running we invited managers and players to one of our meetings to discuss anything related to LOAF or any concerns they may have, quess  what, no one turned up, so in reality things have not changed.
