Cornwall 0-2 Jersey - FA County Youth Cup

Recommended Posts

A disappointing outcome for the Cornwall County’s U-18s this evening in their FA County Youth Cup tie against Jersey with the Duchy going down to a 2-0 defeat.

The match was wisely switched to the all weather Callywith College surface which, with today’s heavy rain, proved a good decision.

However it wasn’t to be so good for Cornwall on the pitch as on the night they were beaten by a strong opposition and deservedly so!

Both defences rode their luck a little in the first half with the ball on more than a few occasions either going just the wrong side of an upright or just behind a flowing attack.

With Cornwall unable to get any supremacy in the contest, on the hour the deadlock was broken by a Thomas Harris shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Cornwall used their three permitted 90 minute substitutions to no real advantage in a ragged, and at times reckless display. Too many players perhaps unable to carry out team instructions!

With time running out and understandably Cornwall pushing forward for an equaliser, Jersey’s Kushnal Frankson used his pace to sneak a second and with time all but up, there was no chance of a come-back.

Room for improvement a fair comment I think.

Cornwall : Kieran Daughtery (Helston), Tyler Buckley (Penzance), Tom Hands (Mousehole), Lewis Tonkin (Helston), Reuben Talbot (Falmouth), Harris Jewell (Helston & Captain), Jack Hooper (St Austell), Ashley Winkworth (Sticker), Sam Buckley (Penzance), Sam Wickins (Wadebridge), Kieran Rowe (Wadebridge).

Subs used :- Alex Wharton (Helston), Sam Pickup (Falmouth), Mawgan Kewn (Penzance).

Subs not used :-Ben Whiting (St Day), Jack James (Helston), Joe Maywood (Saltash).

Is that who we beat aet Dave? We took them to extra time and then ran them off the park.

Yes Tommy the same 'County'.We had to journey around the M25 to Hornchurch FC. to play the fixture.

Without checking for accuracy i believe we equalised late on the take the tie to E/T, i think tie finished 4 - 2 in of course our favour.

We couldn’t believe we were losing as we’d played them off the park for most of the game. Once we’d equalised they had no answer for us. Good days Dave!

Good Days Indeed Tommy, different world today, you, Kev Rowett and James Ross had the best times.
