WHO ARE THE FBB F-TROOP ?

Recommended Posts

Close to our FA Vase game v Helston where we are going to have a massive F-TROOP turn out I thought maybe give those who don't know about us, a little insight of who we are and where we came from. Also to put Helstons small minded officials minds at rest, rumours of body searches, trouble & police etc etc … tut tut, this goes to show it takes more than one mans deep pockets to make a big club, come back Helston when you've won something. Anyway i'm digressing, the FBB ( Falmouth Town Boot Boys) , we were formed around 1972/3 I was around 13 then, memorable games, Barnstaple home & away at home, Yeovil home & away, Newquay away, Penzance away plus many more. These games were hectic and in true 70's street culture of that time there was aggro. The FBB prominent members apart from myself  were Sissy, Brian Searson, my old school buddy, wearer of the Clockwork Orange coat and chant leader, then there was Beardy, 3 years older than me and a great mate, he organised all the coaches away. Top lad Beardy, never ran lol. Other prominent members, Shaun Stacey rip, Kenny Pellow, Milly rip, Johnnie Little rip, Colin Beck, Rolly, Gary Cocks, Chris Jefferies, Crumb, Kitter, Frankie Thomas, Saaf O'niel rip, Dickie Westlake, Mark & Andy Gray, Cheb, Keith Salsibury, Willie Blight, Wog, Robin Instance, Braz, I could go on and on and if anyone actually reads this post they can add names. Watching Falmouth Town back then with Chegwyn, Scott, Kellow, Ashe, Etheridge, Manley and player manager Richard Gray was a dream, 4 SWL titles & 4 Western league titles on the bounce, we were living the dream. Anyway by the time we all got to around 19 years old we realised the errors of our ways and hung up our Doctor Martin Boots and made our way in life, as you do, building our lives. At the time of the FBB around 1973-78 there was a real younger element that used to sit down the front of us at the Packet end of Bickland park and just gaze at us admiringly lol :)  . These folks, were the future F-TROOP,  young lads like Gary Harrington, Ricky Mathews, Andrew Davis, Graham Browning, Martyn Payne, Big John , Rob Pyatt, Jamie Johnson and I am sure many more, please name others in your comments. The F-Troop reigned through the 80's and 90's, unlike like the FBB who liked a ruck the F-troop were loud, controversial, loyal but peaceful. That is how it should be. Then through settling down, raising families etc the F-Troop slowly disappeared, sad but once again, that's life. The F-Troop also had great sides to cheer, Rappo scoring at the Packet end, legend, skipper Tommy Mathews and lots of other heroes. Then 2 years ago Sissy(FBB) and Ricky(F-TROOP) organised a coach to Wadebridge for the League cup final, a bit of a reunion if you like, around 30 of us turned up. We had a sing song behind the goal and a seed was planted. Moving onto last season, 2 cup finals against Saltash at Bodmin & ST Blazey so yours truly started a facebook group to bring some organisation and the rest is history. The phoenix has risen from the ashes !! Falmouth Towns FBB & F-TROOP are back but this time together, new young members, little lads and lasses, mums and dads of all ages. Admitted we don't get massive away support at all the games but decent, but home games and the bigger games its a party atmosphere, old mates reunited and new friends made. That's what we are about. Saturday we will arrive at Helston in style, loud & colourful to cheer on our beloved Falmouth Town. CORNWALLS GREATEST. Great piece of self-promotion there Jeff! Anyone with more than one brain cell will read this and discover the hidden cliché which you have inadvertently demonstrated - does 'Sing when you're winning' sound familiar? Do you really expect us to believe that the F Troop disbanded because you were 'growing up' with families and not because the club, like others have all suffered, were going thru a lean spell. Where were you when Bickland sadly looked very tired and was no longer the epicentre of Cornish football? Nowhere to be seen I've been told by some of your comrades. Anyway- now Westy and Millsy are doing a fantastic job both on and off the pitch you are back front and centre - coincidence?? Always had great experiences when playing down at Falmouth Town and good to see them gain some new success - exactly the same as Helston. I'm sure you will receive a warm welcome at Helston Cricket Club who are great friends with the football club and that welcome will be extended when you visit Kellaway Park - apologies for it being small but small but lessons have been learnt from other's mistakes. Enjoy your day out win or lose!!

I think you boys are doing a great job,  I remember the old rivalry with Penzance back in the 70s and 80s massive crowds  and loads of banter but hardly any trouble,  burning of flags was the limit 😀😀, As a player I can say it defienatly helps the boys on the pitch, Heston    Truro  Mousehole  take note, Money can't buy you that,  Top boys F Troop

Many a running battle with the BB and F-Troop in the late 70's and early 80's at Pz. We were Pz's version of the F-Troop. Happy days.

Tribal warriors we were.

That's why we support our teams through thick and thin, and always will.

Absolutely no problem admitting that I moved away from Falmouth in 1983 and only visited Bickland pk when I went home.  That's a fact.  I was a season ticket holder at old Trafford for 15 years en all so smoke that one. But it's gotta start someone and at Wadebridge 2 years ago it started.  I've been a piss poor town fan for the 30 years I've lived in Plymouth. .hands up pal. .I'm an open book.  That's why when joining this site I decided to use my name and not hide behind a stage name.  But I repeat,  it had to start someone and it's started.  When's Helstons fans returning from the wilderness then?  Answers on a a postcard I guess lol. Jc.

Had some battles at Penzance mate.  Remember 1976 in particular.  Always a great game between to proper football clubs.  Respect.

I guess you're not a season ticket holder any more as United aren't doing so well now. Similar to you leaving Falmouth?

Haha bring it on lol.😊.  Had to relenquish season ticket in 2008 I'm afraid due to a greedy ex Mrs wanting top dollar from separating.  You know the old game.  Next question Harry . ..😉

This is an interesting read, someone who admits violence at games and now is a reformed character!!

I think somebody has had a few cans of Asda lager and indulged on a night watching football factory.

I’ve heard the police horse unit in Bristol is on standby.

I would say this is fictional, however he stated being a Man Utd fan in the glory days and he know longer attends. This makes me think it may be true, as that seems to be the trend with Man Utd fans at the moment.

Not fictional.

i remember being on Pz prom with my brother running away like hell from 3 coaches of Falmouth supporters who were passing. They saw a group of us by the casino on the prom, got their drivers to slam on the brakes whilst they piled out.

God did we scatter and run like rabbits. We were outnumbered about 20 to 100.

That photo reminds me of the 1981 Senior Cup final when about 50 of us from Pz marched through the car park and into the ground at Bodmin with our flags and scarves flying, chanting our songs. When we scored the only goal, I remember I was drinking a can of beer (you could those days), chucking it behind me so I could jump up and down with the rest. After the celebrations were over, I got my can and finished it off!

Who outside of those involved cares who they are? next we will be having photos of individuals with names and addresses.
As long as they behave they can shout and holler all they like, ( although the use of a megaphone is a little OTT ) and if they don't they may be suprised to find that that things have moved on a little since the 70s.

Trooper. . Who do you support ?

Well I live in Plymouth and know all the Argyle lads. Most are good mates of mine. Do you think Argyle fans can be fickle at times ? Or in fact any football fan. Your answer could quite possibily be yes to that.  Its not whats happened in the past, its now and the future. That's how I see it.

And this is what was wrong with football back then. Some poor sod going to a local football match only to get his head kicked in by a bunch of half witted thugs.I remember people I worked with going up to Argyle games just for the fun of kicking the crap out of some poor sod they'd managed to separate from his mates.Pathetic.

Falmouth Towns glorious past is the basis of where we are at now. Lots of us left and went our separate ways, moved away or simply got into other things, whatever. What I am saying is, that's now not important, its where we go from here. Is that a little clearer for you.? :)

paying at the gate drinking in the bar increasing attendances, it is what its all about! some clubs would bend over backwards for this!

A positive comment at last lol. Its funny yeww, when I put up this post I knew the knockers would jump on certain things I wrote, things that happened when most of us were still at school. The positive vibe is the Town of Falmouth is now getting behind its local football team and there's never been a hint of trouble or will there be. :)

No one is knocking your enthusiasm for Falmouth Town and the phoenix that is the F-Troop but was the jibe about Helston rumoured to be searching fans as they enter the ground really necessary whilst you were waxing lyrical?? There is also another jibe on a separate topic, from you, about being a small club etc etc but that small club boasts one of the largest youth set-ups in the county, which has been largely successful and that small club also had Westy and Millsy playing for it a few seasons ago and very welcome they were too - so think on. While you are about it - please re-read your original post and correct the grammatical errors - no one likes a grammatically incorrect antagonist 🤔🤔

Jibes are usually offered as a form of defence when the opposition is feared which may or may not be the case.
With regard to Mr Chambers envy jibe about our earlier comment, he may be interested to know that we have a genuine interest in Falmouth doing well, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with his comments which do little to endear people to the club, as is the language that eminates from from the group.
As an aside committed supporters will always find a way of supporting their team both at home and away.

There may well be a bit of sing when your winning as it took a cup final or two for this reunion to pick up momentum .From a personal point of view ive been taking my 9 year old boy to bickland for the last few years and he loves it especially ftroop/fbb! I was coached by Westy senior back in the day and watched junior westy grow up doing so and im now good mates with both westys . I guess my point is Andy is one of us not backed by a massive budget like others at this level and has recruited local young players .The chairman also is one of us and has done an amazing job and helped us stay at Bickland .

Going back to sing when you're winning ,FTFC at present arent winning every week and probably wont for now,but it wont stop us Ftroop meeting up with old mates for the odd football match and having a sing song ! 💛🖤

As I have written earlier, what is being done both on and off the pitch is to be admired and the F-Troop are an entertainment in themselves and generally to be applauded. there are always one or two though...…

I'm sure the game and the atmosphere will be great on Saturday

F Troop as witnessed earlier this season at St Dennis

On another thread a photo taken by Uwdi at Sticker on 5th October showed eleven F. Troop watching the game.
As we have stated earlier on this thread, the true supporters of a club will always find a way to follow them home or away, win or lose.
Because your team may be playing what is seen to be a weaker team is no excuse for not supporting them if you are a true supporter .
Good luck Falmouth this weekend, we will be looking out for your result.👍

I personally think the F-Troop bring a good atmosphere to the games they attend.

However... talks of over 200 turning up for their trip to Kellaway Park and the pictures of only a few when they went to Sticker and St Dennis kind of say to me that they only turn up against the teams they want to see and want to show off for. Helston have had a lot of media coverage with Piran films doing highlights of all the games, seems they want to come along when they can get some attention.

Like I said, I think they bring a great atmosphere to the games, even if they do go a bit far with the flares and some of the chants. Should make Kellaway a great place to watch a game of football tomorrow afternoon

Does it matter if 11 or a 100 turn up ? If 11 turn up its 11 peoples money which I'm sure any club wouldn't turn down in this tough climate for local football, guess some people cant see a positive and like to have a pop 🙄

However... talks of over 200 turning up for their trip to Kellaway Park and the pictures of only a few when they went to Sticker and St Dennis kind of say to me that they only turn up against the teams they want to see and want to show off for.

Glad that someone understands the point we were making, those that attended Sticker and St Dennis are the ones that can call themselves the true supporters who support the team wherever they go.
No doubting that clubs are glad of whoever turns up and pays at the gate, but the disparity between home support and away support must be a bit disappointing to the loyal supporters who follow their team everywhere.

I personally am looking forward to seeing the f troop in action tomorrow I was part of the few thousand that marched to that there London to support Truro in the case and was great to see so many faces so far from home, numbers don't matter I am regularly part of a solid 100 or so supporting the mighty Colchester at Argyle, the f troop were missing during my time at town but it's great to see them back and creating a great atmosphere, bring on tomorrow apologies to Westy, Charlie, James, Barnsey etc but come on Helston x

Is that the home end ? 😂

Have to say it was enjoyable reading your comments and replies.  Sticker and St Dennis  are getting a lot of air time because we only took 14 or 15 F-TROOP to their grounds.  Well that's no strictly true as there were town fans dotted all around the perimeter in those games. We're get 200 + at Helston because it's the FA Vase,. A special game. I've not seen any club bring any fans at all to Bickland pk this season.  It's pretty unrealistic to expect that many fans at say Mousehole away.   But we'll continue doing what we do. Whether massive or small turn outs at least the team appreciates us and together we form a formidable unit.  X
