Credit to both teams for producing a great match at Oxland Park despite the howling wind and rain. The visitors were on top form in the opening half hour playing some great football on the deck making a mockery of the awful conditions. Jake Shaw shot over after 6 minutes and 4 minutes later a mazy run from Jack Rapsey was halted and Kegan McPhilbin put the free kick inches wide from the edge of the area. 2 minutes later a sharp shot on the turn from Nick Boase was saved at his near post by impressive home keeper Shaun Carter before the hosts had their first shot a long range effort well held by stand in keeper Dan Lord deputising for Ben Mitchell in the Penryn goal. On 18 minutes a good cross from Reggie May saw Rapsey’s snap shot well saved by the feet of Carter and 4 minutes later Rapsey had his powerful drive blocked on the line by Carter who almost sat on the ball after blocking with his foot with the clearance falling to Ryan Reeve who smashed a 15 yard shot back against the underside of the crossbar. Shaw then saw his goalbound effort deflected wide of the post before a great through ball from Luke Osborne saw Shaw not to be denied as he slipped the ball past the onrushing Carter. Rapsey teed up Reeve to chip the keeper with his side foot but Carter got back to catch the ball under his crossbar. Rapsey cut the ball back from the left to Shaw but he had his shot blocked and Reeve set him up for a second go but it was blocked again by the over worked home defence. Almost out of nowhere a left wing wind assisted cross dropped over Lord and inside the far post for an equaliser that wasn’t on the cards but this seemed to galvanise Illogan and they went on to get the better of Penryn for 5 minutes when skipper Steve Abbott-Smith was unlucky to see his shot brilliantly cleared off the line by Nick Boase. Harry Roberts sprang the offside trap right on half time and unselfishly squared to Reeve who tapped home but the young lady running the line gave offside. I was bang in line and Reevey was about 2 yards behind the ball but I’m not going to criticise a young lady good enough to be running the line in that weather so I won’t! 3 minutes into the 2nd half a wind assisted goal kick from Lords hands fizzed down towards the clubhouse bounced once and smashed off the home crossbar and a minute later the brilliant Boase was denied once again by Carter diving low to his right. Tyler Cooke on at half time for Reeve who was feeling his hamstring went close with a flick header from Roberts cross before the visitors forced a few corners in a row and it was from one of these that Mcphilbin delivered an in swinging ball towards Carter with Rapsey getting in front the keeper and looking like he flicked the ball in over Carters punch but it was decided the corner went straight in for Mcphilbins first goal for Penryn. Illogan had a free kick tipped over the bar by able deputy Lord before a Rapsey run was ended by a foul and man of the match Boase expertly whipped the ball over the wall and into the top corner. Illogan shot over in a rare attack before another home raid resulted into a player over running the ball and falling into Shaw but the ref saw differently to award the spot kick!? Trying not to be too biased but it was never a foul! Anyway Dom Batchelor struck a great pen into the corner no keeper would have saved and it was game on again. Bradley Leivers quick feet gave Rapsey a half chance but Carter at full stretch palmed away for a corner once again. Mr McCullock found 6 minutes of injury time from somewhere( must be a Rangers fan) but Penryn held on for a deserved win that their first half display of football merited. More nip and tuck after the break with Illogan looking dangerous at times and young CJ? on the left wing looks a top young talent. Decent ref who I thought got a couple big decisions wrong but tried to play advantage when he could and spoke to the players well on the whole. Great goalkeeping display by Shaun Carter in those conditions with Nick Boase a class act among quite a few Penryn players who had good games today. Well done to both teams for an entertaining match, good to see my old mate Woltsey still playing for Illogan, you don’t lose it Mendy 👍

Perranwell v St Ives -  those dreaded words "can you run right backs please", why do refs do that? It's like trying to write with your left hand!

Lots of cards, yellow and red both ways, thought the ref made no allowance for the conditions, which were appalling, and cards were unnecessary. Well played St Ives no complaints about the result, hope Ian (Perranwell) is ok following collision which saw him unconscious for 40-45 secs and required an ambulance. Just when it looks like we might have some players coming back, lady fate strikes again! We've got a three week break now, hopefully regroup when we return and the results start to improve. St Ives are a tidy outfit, moved the ball well and footballling wise, one of the best we've played this season. Onwards and upwards!

Any news on the lad who was taken to hospital at the Perranwell game.

Not yet, fingers crossed.

Hopefully he will be ok as the challenge on him was one from each team and the referee decided the outcome was very strange to say the least !  not a bad tackle really in the game and with the conditions were horrid but the result about right but when the Well got a goal back St Ives did panic a bit .....

Clubs calling off because they can't raise a side, is becoming too frequent this season and so early in it as well. This is both sad and a bit worrying. What are the reasons behind this one wonders ? Are some players losing interest, are other matters more important to them. The cricket season's long over now !

Sign of the times & standards Keith I'm afraid. Good sides in this league now wouldn't be in the top 15 10 years ago.

I was only attempting to get Darren to lighten up and say something complimentary about the game instead of purely highlighting the bad points!

Actually not necessarily all good - ask Phil Hewlett, Dave Philp, Paul Hicks, Steve Gill! 🤔
