KO CUP

ST.AGNES  0-1  CALLINGTON

One of those games that looked like one goal would do it and unfortunately for Aggie an own goal in the 55th minute saw Callington through to make the long trip down worthwhile. Despite the lack of goals both teams created quite a few chances each but in general there were two solid defences and good keepers. Little bit windy but not enough to ruin the game. Quite physical for a Vets game really and ref Mr Callum Wilkinson had to dish out a couple of cards but coped well with the rest of it with just a word or two. Good to see some old opponents in the Callington team still playing well especially Lee Beer who I remember coming into our Cornwall team as a great youngster at the time when Steve Massey was manager! Good luck in the next round to Cally 👍🏆

Royal Par 4 Perranporth 1, match called off on 80 minutes due to serious head injury but result stands. Royal Par, everyone's favourite opposition (crap team / great food) made it 4 points out of 6 after defeating last seasons League Champions at Par Track in a match well contested by both sides. The home team have seen an overhaul of the squad in the summer, when I say overhaul loads of players left because they felt the grass was greener even if it meant only sausage and chips at their new teams. Fortunately we're able to attract new players like an ugly bird can attract blokes after he's drunk 12 pints, our regular Wednesday night get together under lights at Par Track has seen us unearth some real quality to the side. New signings Alaa Siam, Mariusz Janasiak and Chris Mather have added a quality and goals to the side which bodes well for Foxhole when they sign them off us next season. Alaa opened the scoring after 5 minutes, his snatched shot leaving the away keeper leaden footed, ditto Mario (easier to type and say than Mariusz) when he doubled our lead shortly after. We carved open numerous chances with an incredible save from Matt Mills keeping the score at 2. Shortly before half time Perranporth were awarded a disputed penalty and reduced the arrears. H/T 2-1. Perranporth made changes and dominated the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half with clearances, the bar and errant finishing helping us keep our lead. Some what against the run of play Mario scored another 30 yard thunder bolt, similar to his one against Bude which we all said was a shot, maybe now we should believe him when he says he means it! The match was ultimately put to bed when great work from Collin Harker to hook the ball back into the box with Chris Mather adding the final touch, 4-1. An accidental clash of heads resulted in Alaa being seriously injured and with player welfare the most important thing and the player unable to leave the pitch the game was declared over. Last season was a bit of a write off for us but despite initial worries it appears we have come back stronger than ever, most importantly players are buying into the direction we are going which is basically the pub 200 yards from the pitch after the game.
