Normal 2.30 pm kick off times apply as there is no extra time.

Solid performance from St Columb Major this afternoon and deserved winners.

Div One - HALF TIME _ Mevagissey 3 - 0 Lifton                                    FULL TIME Meva 5 - 1 Lifton

Entertaining, end to end first half with chances for both sides. Lifton didn't really deserve to be three down at the break but that's football for you.

I then moved on to catch the second half at Gorran v Polperro but was disappointed to find nobody there !

Also disappointing to see that the touchlines at Bell Hill are still too close to the bordering fences.

I did manage to move on and watch the last few minutes at Lostwithiel where St Merryn secured a good 4 - 1 win in the group stage of the Knock Out Cup.

CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE

Both Duchy cup competitions start off with a group section this season before going into the knock out stages. Teams of three form the groups with the group winners guaranteed a home last sixteen tie.

The Knock Out Cup saw a clash of Premier clubs at Par Track with Stoke Climsland coming out 2-0 winners against Tregrehan Mills. Stoke bossed the first half with Josh Pope opening the score in the 15^th minute with a classy half-volley finish. The hosts were stunned ten minutes later when the same player scored an absolutely identical goal. Tregrehan sorted out their problems at half time and came out to dominate the second half. Although they put continuous pressure on the Stoke defence, they were unable to find a way through as the visitors held out for the win.

Dobwalls reserves scored a surprise 2-0 win at Saltash United Thirds. They took the lead on the half hour with a superb chip from Ben Gaynor and five minutes later Matt Pascoe added the second. Saltash had the better of the second half but failed to take their chances.

Ross London and Brodie Mitchell both scored twice as St Newlyn East won 4-1 at AFC Bodmin. The hosts replied with a goal from new signing Andy Seymour.

Boscastle were 3-2 winners at Altarnon. Adam Porter scored both home goals, but the visitors take the points with goals from Dan Capstick, Sam Haddy and an own goal from Brandon Ambrose.

Gunnislake has made a stunning free-scoring start to the season but they found things a lot more difficult at St Breward before securing a 2-1 win. Brad Farnham and Chris Parsons scored for the visitors with Rob Marks getting the St Breward reply.

St Merryn were impressive as they won 4-1 at Lostwithiel reversing a recent league defeat. Kevin Allen hit a hat trick with Josh Old adding the other St Merryn goal. James Hutchings replied for Lostwithiel.

In the Shoe Boy League Cup two new entries for this season met with St Dominick reserves winning 4-1 at Queens Rangers. The visitors took a seventh minute lead when a free kick was blocked, and Spencer Barrett followed up to score. Callum Searle scored a second in the 25^th minute when he netted after a Kieran Jasper shot was blocked. Jasper scored the third in the 53^rd minute and on the hour, James Bloomfield hit a cracker from the edge of the area. Queens forced a series of corners as they fought back with Sam Rowse getting a consolation goal in the 83^rd minute. This only spurred St Dominick back into action and Queens keeper Zac George made four fantastic saves to deny them further goals. Despite the defeat a very young Rangers side showed great promise for the future.

St Anns Chapel faced the daunting journey to Victoria Bottoms with just a bare eleven and took a savage twenty nil beating from Nanpean Rovers. Jordi Willmott scored five with Jordan Friendship hitting four goals and Reece Willmott claiming a hat trick. The rout was completed by braces from Luke Truscott, Scott Brown and George Bartlett with George Packer and keeper Shaun Hicks from the spot completing the rout.

Boscastle reserves edged St Eval Spitfires 3-2. Mike Parsons, Aaron Williams and Karl Stone for Boscastle with Jon Summerfield and Dan Trevelyan replying.

Liam Cairns scored a brace as Southgate Seniors won 4-1 at Roche reserves. Anthony Coles and Mark Wilson completed the Southgate scoring with Tallan Annear replying with a penalty for Roche.

Gunnislake reserves were too strong for North Hill winning 8-2. Nick Beman and Ben Farrar hit a brace apiece with their tally completed with goals from Jake Rapson, Jamie Skinner, Andy Brown and an own goal. Ben Davis scored both North Hill goals.

Calstock had a superb victory over Nanpean last week but fell to earth with a bump when thrashed 7-0 at home by Bude Town reserves. Steve Hackett hit a hat rick with Brad Palmer adding a brace. Lewis Hopgood and Matt Cook completed the scoring.

Lifton reserves were held one all at home by North Petherwin reserves. Liam Rich scoring for Lifton and Jordan Karkeek for Petherwin.

There were limited league matches. In Division One Mevagissey had a 5-1 home win over Lifton although the final score rather flattered the hosts. The first half was evenly fought despite Mevagissey going into the break three ahead. Mevagissey were the stronger side after the restart although they found it more difficult to score with Lifton getting their consolation near the end. Brandon Chapman hit a hat trick for Mevagissey, two of which came from the spot. Bradley Trudgeon and Joel Barnicoat were the other home scorers.

Foxhole reserves opened their season beating St Minver reserves 6-2. Jamie Robinson and Caleb Hawken scored a brace apiece with Bradley Allen and Jake Couch completing the hosts tally.

Just one game was played in Division Three with St Columb Major beating Biscovey 3-1. Dom Roberts, Nathan Chapman and Conor Doocey scored for St Columb with Brad Mills replying.

I have a beautiful image of Paul ‘Sharp Eye’ Collins up at Bell Hill, on his own, down on his knees with a tape measure examining the fence/touch line distance to the nearest millimetre. What a wild Saturday afternoon - hope you enjoyed yourself.

Since football has been played up there, I have only ever known of around 30 injuries - two of which were fatal -  to players colliding with the fence. Two a season isn’t a bad return!

I’ve played at some interesting grounds. I feel more at danger twisting an ankle on the Lamerton mole hills or falling on an infected needle on the playing fields at Saltash  But hey ho - rules be rules.

Against a team we’ve struggled with in the past we came out on top through goals from Spencer Barrett, Waggy Searle, Kieren Jasper and James Bloomfield. A great performance from the lads all over the pitch, man of the match going to Lewis Whitaker!

Thanks to queens for hosting us, look forward to another three battles this season!

Not quite sure what game the writer of this was watching, from a Dobwalls perspective I cannot remember our goalkeeper having anything that tested him.

2nd half Dobwalls were more than happy to hold our shape, sit off a saltash side who were comfortable in possession but who rarely threatened what was a well organised and disciplined defence from the visitors. We always felt we offered a threat on the counter and having scored 2 quick goals midway through the 1st half felt in control of the game. 

Thanks to Saltash for the hospitality after the game and look forward to another good game in the return. Decent bunch of lads except for the young right winger who needs to calm himself down. Was a similar character in the friendly a few weeks ago .

A good performance by SNE. Scoreline should have been higher but for some wasteful finishing and Broadie missing out on a hatrick by hitting high and wide from 1 yard and deservedly getting donkey of the day. 

Fair play to Bodmin who kept pressing right until the end despite being reduced to 10 men towards the end of the first half with the score at 2-0. They scored a worldie and a decent set of lads who didn’t give in. 3 more games against them as well!!!

It's disappointing for any club not to be able to raise a side! Any suggestions as to how to help them avoid it?

“Disgrace” is a tad harsh. There aren’t many sides at grass roots level that haven’t struggled to get a side together at some point in their various histories.

The disappointing and frustrating part was the late notice. I was due to referee the game, had it been called earlier then I could have traveled to Tintagel or Week St Mary and prevented one of those games from being called off due to the lack of an official.

Tbh mate that's a bit unfair,I was very nearly in the same position on Saturday lucky enough I had 2 guys say they could play at 12 pm they were registered within an hour so we could make the trip to bude,that was st piran league as well,things happen people can't make it,it's unfortunate thats all it is.

Not our proudest moment in being unable to raise a side, and can only apologise to the referee and to Gorran for the late notice; our manager did everything he could to scrape 11 together (including himself) with players away, at a wedding, working and injured, but got let down by a (small) group of players as he was on his way to the game. An unfortunate sign of the times when many players see football as something they do when there is nothing else going on on a Saturday. 

Ironically, our first team had a full squad of 16, but we couldn’t use any of them as 2 of the reserve side have already helped the first team in 2 games recently, meaning we’d have fallen foul of the senior players rule. 

But, we’ve regrouped, paid the fine and will move on to Saturday.

MattP's valid point about not being able to play some fully registered players from his own club (!), contributing to the late postponement of a game, shows again how unworkable the current mishmash of players' eligibility criteria is. Without wishing to labour the point, the abolition of ALL eligibility conditions would not just be far simpler but would also increase the likelihood of fixtures being fulfilled. Then, if you're registered, you're eligible!

It is crazy really when put against say the position where a player for a Southern League club who is suspended, can still play at Step 6 level even though banned, while a player can’t turn out for his own club!

There are valid points on both sides of this old debate of course. Without doubt on this occasion the eligibility criteria made it impossible for the club to spread what players it had available and get two teams out.

Taking this fixture purely as an example though, had there been no player restrictions the club may have turned out two bare 11 teams BUT half of the Duchy One side may then have then been regular players for a team currently sitting second in the St Piran League.  –  would Gorran have found that acceptable ?

Taking the point to its extreme, we could have been talking about Peninsula players fulfilling a Duchy Two game – surely nobody really finds that acceptable and it would only make the game less attractive for the regular Duchy quality players giving them another excuse for not wanting to turn out.

The current rules may not be perfect but the clubs are perfectly able to propose changes to the parameters for consideration at the agm.

Agree with Paul, wasn’t suggesting we should have been allowed to load up our second team with “ringers” - hence my use of the word “ironically”. Leagues and cups are already decided far too often at levels above the Duchy league by teams looking to bolster teams with more senior players.

Well not to put teams in the spotlight but it's clear some teams abuse this rule and face no consequence for doing so. No one going to bat an eyelid at a Calstock side who were rooted to the foot of Duchy 3 but suddenly put 6 past a very strong Nanpean side only to then get slapped 7-0 the week after by Bude Town? Far too many teams being disingenuous in my opinion.

Being an ex Calstock player I know the majority of the team and yes they had 2 players who played against nanpean who play at a higher standard usually which breaks no rules. The players in question sign on every season and grew up with the local lads, one started out their when he was younger. The 6 changes are due to players not being committed week in week out.
