Liskeard Athletic 0 Bodmin Town 3

Decent crowd, got it to around 210 on the head count.

Many were anticipating an end to end classic, me included.

Disappointment was an understatement, neither side impressed in this disjointed fragmented encounter.

Bodmin went ahead a few minutes after kick off courtesy of the open-house invitation from their welcoming hosts. Tornado couldn't believe his luck.

We then got forty minutes of hoof, scramble and chase. Passing to a colleague was proving extremely difficult.

8 minutes into the second half it was bedtime, Bodmin went 2-0 up. Not even the most fanatical Liskeard supporter could see a way out of this one.

Liskeards keeper got a red for a last man chop outside the box and the press ganged replacement immediately let a soft shot through his legs for Bodmins third.

Full time beckoned, amidst the throws of sleep creeping boredom I briefly awoke back into consciousness to witness a Bodmin player getting a red card of their own.

The sorry affair mercifully fizzled out as the crowd crept towards the welcome of the exit & the mind numbing Brexit waffle on News At Ten. Anything was better than this.

The worst game I've seen this season (including the pre season jaunts).

Tuesday 3rd September

SWPL Premier Division East

Torpoint Athletic 2-1 Stoke Gabriel

The home side had to come from behind against a resolute Stoke Gabriel who came into this match, losing to Torridgeside 11-0 on Saturday at the Donnacroft, with a much changed team, writes Robbie Morris.

In the first 15 minutes both sides rarely threaten goal until the the 14th minute. Phil Carisieri shot home from 15 yards after a great double save by home goal keeper Jason Peters for the Railwaymen to be in front, to shock the hosts.

Torpoint then threatened the goal, five minutes later, when Lee Hawkins shot, low just wide with an acute angle drive.

On the 26th minute, Lewis Young restored parity when he headed home John Heveran’s cross after a great corner into the box, by captain, Lee Bevan.

Three minutes before the interval, Young, struck from 20 yards, for visiting keeper, Kieron Rickard, to put the ball round the post.

In the second half, Torpoint battled hard against Stoke Gabriel to find a second decisive goal. There was chances from John Heveran and Young.

Then just before the mark, Josh Grant shot home from 10 yards, after good build up play by the mid field.

With five minutes remaining, Young was again in action when he shot from the edge area, to be well saved by Rickard.

In stoppage time, Rhys Gribble shot from inside the area, in what could of been a late equaliser, only for Peters to make a fantastic save against the lowly visiting side that could in the future, improve on their league position in the very near future. Meanwhile, Torpoint, climb to 4th position and are only two points behind the top of the lead and close neighbours Millbrook.

See Josh Grant was in the Torpoint lineup tonight. Ringers in already. Under pressure down at The Mill.

By the Looks like of it .  Bringing ringers in after 6 games . Must be some unrest . Thinking they could potentially win the league was too far fetched . They conceded 14 goals in 6 games  . 5th highest goal conceded in the league .millbrook beat the same side 5.0 , they are miles ahead of Torpoint atm got a way of playing and it’s effective  Torpoint on there recent showing be lucky to finish top 6. One positive Lewis young looking sharp.

Camelford 1 Saltash United 2

Camels scorer: Ollie Gibson (pen)

Saltash scorers: David Barker (pen) and Sam Hughes

Attendance: 68

A game of two sin bins and three penalties!

Saltash took the lead from the spot 20 minutes into proceedings (Barker). Saltash doubled their lead ten minutes later, Hughes with a fine finish into the bottom corner from just inside the area. Camels keeper Gwillam made a fine save from Hughes and managed to get his finger tips to the ball to touch it onto the bar. This kept Camelford in the game going in to the  half time break.

HT: 0-2

Camelford started to get back into the game and this was helped by substitutes as Hambly brought on Insley and Andrews. Ten minutes into the half and the Camels had pulled one back from the spot as Boxall was pulled down, Gibson stepped up and scored, 1-2. The rest of the game was end to end as Camelford continued to defend well and keep themselves in the game. The equaliser nearly came after a fine run by Sleep who crossed the ball to Andrews who's shot was deflected just wide!

Five minutes towards the end and the Camels had won themselves another penalty. Up stepped Gibson again, who blazed over the bar. Saltash saw the final minutes of the game out and secured yet another victory in which many of their supporters claimed "their toughest test so far". All in all the Camels deserved a point but it wasn't to be, congrats Saltash.

Finally, hope that the young Saltash keeper is okay, who was substituted late on for an injury, speedy recovery.

FT: 1-2

There was a theory from quite a few in the crowd that Bodmin set out to stop Liskeard playing, I would agree with this to a degree but also add that the home side got a little too wrapped up in the paraphernalia of the occasion. Even James Lorenz looked far too eager & trigger happy. This all played into the visiting tacticians master plan. All that re-con certainly paid off.

Good luck to Bodmin, they were well worth the victory on the night and you are correct Mr Leeds that it's a fine attribute to win ugly.

As for the experts out there suggesting they'll be in the final shake up come the Spring? With the greatest respect I think not. More lethal sharks now skulk these waters.
