What's going on down at Helston?

I see Billy Tucker played for the Blues on Saturday--he is the Bideford player of the season and usually helps out for Helston when they dont have a game.

Strange when Southern League Bideford also played on Saturday in The F.A.Cup

Have you thought it may be a suspension carry over from last season and can play at that level whilst suspended................

Not sure what you are asking

Only Steve Massey would commission a film crew to follow him around for the day then in turn continues to make Helston a target via some of his comments.

Having watched the video I don't see or hear anything that would make Helston a target. Specifics??

I think you'll find it might be more than 'the day' Hetty.

Whatever, I don't see anything wrong with a club and manager self-promoting. Let's be fair, whatever Steve says and does, he's going to be shot at! Personally, the local game needs guys like him to keep the interest going.

Just watched the you tube film and enjoyed hearing what Massey had to say.

Clearly he's an intelligent and articulate individual who's love of the game is transparent.

Quite why he chooses to operate at the level he has chosen is beyond me however....his commitment, both personal and financial merits exploitation at a much higher level than this league, the quality of which sadly has deteriorated significantly over the last 20 years.

Listening to him speak about his squad and other teams in the league, it is clear why many players at this level have opinions of their ability which exceed the actual standard at which they play every week.

Maybe you have provided the answer to the question you raised - maybe the exploitation at a higher level is what puts him off? At a "lower" level perhaps he is not exploited. With regards to his thoughts on players - surely a manager must have belief in his players and courage in his convictions. If he does not believe in what he is doing, then how can you expect anybody else to believe?

Quite a few people judging by this forum. You must remember when Penryn were a big and successful club - everyone wanted a pop at them then!!!!

Don't think we were ever a big club! A modicum of success maybe.

Don't remember people having a pop at us...why would they?

No real social media or forum that many years back!

I think its good that people like S.M want to do things more professionally. Surly its a good thing that clubs have people like that looking to do things the right way. The more people wanting to do good things for their clubs can only help promote cornish football and the standards. Easy to knock him but he comes across well.

Totally agree.

I used the word exploitation in the sense of its meaning as " to make the most of" . I feel that Massey's talents and financial resources are being wasted at this level. In my playing days we described such individuals as "pot hunters".

The other point I was trying to make - perhaps not very well - is that a number of players in this league are by no means as good as they think they are. I appreciate that many choose not to play at higher levels for personal or financial reasons, and that geographical logistics play a huge part but I would hope that more would seek to play at the highest level possible, especially at the peak of their careers.
