Dave Deacon
From Mike Newcombe of the Duchy League .... CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE Saturday 17th August Premier Division AFC Bodmin 0-6 Tregrehan Mills Lostwithiel 9-0 Holywell/Cubert Athletic There were just two games to start the Duchy season both in the new look Premier Division. Only three teams survive from last season’s Premier Division after the revamp of Cornish football in the summer. One of those teams Lostwithiel made a superb start thrashing Holywell-Cubert Athletic hitting nine goals without reply. Liam Rooney hit a hat trick, the first of which, came from the penalty spot. Jordan Cummings added a brace and the rout was completed by goals from Dan Carr, Bailey Phillips, Nathan Cummings and James Hutchings. The other game also saw a large win with Tregrehan Mills winning 6-0 at AFC Bodmin, raising fears that after all the league changes there could be many mis-matched games throughout the season. Dean Dingle was the major difference between these two sides scoring four times with Glyn James bagging a brace to complete a comprehensive victory. TruMiller
Great set up at Dragon Centre as always. Good early season pitch with plenty of space to play on this wide pitch. After heavy recruitment we were keen to gel quickly and bring the best out of each other. A fairly even first half saw us go in 3-0 by virtue of some clinical finishing by one of our many new additions. 2 nd half saw us begin to dominate and push home our advantage with wave after wave of attack. 4 goals from Dean Dingle (2nd half hat trick) and a brace from new signing Glyn James saw us home comfortably in the end. A good game played in a great spirit, no cards or sin bins and very sincere handshakes afterwards. Good advert for the game, and in spite of the flattering scoreline, a good showing from our boys in unexpected and unchartered territory in Duchy Prem. Thank you to all at AFC Bodmin and look forward to returning the hospitality at our place. Until then, good luck with your season. Good team, great attitude. Pleasant game to be part of, although there was a yellow for a cynical foul in the 2nd half. Tregrehan Mills looked a decent outfit; very solid at the back!
