In the past when teams pulled out (ie street) they would automatically be given bottom spot thus reprieving another club (ie Barnstaple). This is no longer a set rule, reprieves are handed out last. If there is a vacancy at step 4, if will go to best runner up ppg nationally which is Parkway. Everything is up in the air until fa make announcement. Barnstaple may stay up or Parkway might go up depending on fa decision. Personally think there should be more of a set rule

Spot on Rob, because with a pyramid system that the FA are trying to run and even further develop, it should all be based on promotion and relegation. So the first thing that happens is those in relegation spots at the end of the season are demoted and those in promotion spots are promoted, whatever system of promotion that exists between various leagues. It might be two down two up, may be a three involved, but what ever it is that is what happens at the end of the season. If a club decides to seek permission to be relegated and moved from the league they are in for all sorts of reasons, that is a separate matter all together. That move, if granted by the Fa, would create a vacancy in that league. The next club in line would than be promoted, it could be ppg, it could be play offs, 'toss of a coin' almost anything, but set within the rules.

If you have teams that want to 'go back' to a league, than it must be a drop of at least two leagues, or when a club has promotion forced on them they just 'kick the ball around' for a few games, say we want to go back and all meaning of a pyramid is lost.

Agreed. Current situation isn’t fair on clubs who want to start making plans for next season, as well as arrange preseason friendlies against teams in seperate leagues.

Believe that the FA are meeting this weekend to finalise the allocation of teams to specific leagues. Everything should be resolved at who is playing where early next week.

According to the Southern League website, Barnstable get a reprieve for the 2019/20 season and are not relegated.

Assume therefore that Parkway were not offered the option of promotionn?

Whilst you would always take promotion, it may be good for the club to consolidate its position. Back to back promotions would have left the club a lot to do in a short period of time with regards to ground grading. Clubs that progress too quickly have sometimes unraveled just as quickly as well. If squad is kept together, Parkway will be probably be favourites to win the league. It would also be nice to go up as champions as well. Not taking anything for granted, a lot of tough teams in the league - but looking forward to it; especially the games against Tavi!

Agreed. Street look like they may of have over reached a bit by moving into the Southern League. Doesn't seem like it is finances or the quality of players, but more being short of volunteers to cope with the extra workload on match days. The behind the scenes structures, and not just relying on the same small handful of people all the time, is something that it looks like Parkway are gradually putting in place. With regards to the step 4 ground grading, the floodlights fulfil the criteria, the large new club house is almost complete and the new grandstand with additional seasting is imminent. I also gather that further improvements are in the pipeline.

On the playing side with the aforementioned Street coming back into the league, Exmouth and Tavi coming up , Shortwood and Chipping Sodbury moving sideways into other leagues, the Western League has a slightly more local feel about it next season. Just got to keep the nucleus of this squad together and make a few key additions in order to be up there again next season.

I have said all along since the first announcement of the revised pyramid system that it would soon run into disrepute, irrespective of whether or not to remain helps the club.

They spoke at meetings  that it would have mandatory promotion and relegation, clubs who refused promotion would be relegated. In fact a club Swindon way last season refused promotion and was relegated from step 5 to step 6, as it didn't want promotion to step 4. In the past clubs that have pulled out of step 4 have not been called voluntary relegated and the those at the bottom saved, they have been replaced by clubs who finished in second spot with the  best points per game nationally. I said when it started that all a club had to do was mess around when it was mandatory promoted and the FA would just drop it back. They have done this with Street, not complying with the planned pyramid. So when a Cornish club has mandatory promotion to step 5, really doesn't want it, there are a number of ways to avoid it. Don't do any improved ground works till after the date. After a few months in the league ask to be 'voluntary relegated' back to step  6, put loads of gravel down where the public stand, there are numerous ways to produce the negative result. The FA should deal with the promotion and relegation as it stands at the end of the season, then deal with those who want to change steps and fill the vacancies with those who do want to be promoted on the agreed ppg syatem.:drink:

The club "Swindon way" was Andover. They were all up for promotion from Step 5 to Step 4 when their major sponsor pulled out, and they had to cut their cloth accordingly. As a reward for this, they were demoted to Step 6, all their players left and they ended up next to bottom of that level.

This bit " In the past clubs that have pulled out of step 4 have not been called voluntary relegated and the those at the bottom saved, " is not true, clubs pulling out either mid season or giving notice of doing so at the end of the season, have always been placed notionally at the bottom and therefore taking up one of the relegation positions.

Any info on new grandstand? Size? Timetable for completion etc? What other improvements need to be made? Am I right in saying 2 turnstiles and perimeter fencing?

Had a debate on Twitter. A load of fans from Chipping Sudbury and other clubs unhappy with the club being put in Hellenic. However there needs to be a drift west of the league, which hopefully the restructuring will allow. Certainly an opportunity for more Devon clubs to go up. Chipping Sodbury is closer to London than Cornwall so something needs to change!

The Fa should assist clubs with travel expenses for any journey over a certain length. The RFU do this and rugby clubs similar in size to step 5/6 clubs travel long distances for matches. Certainly if there was a club promoted to step 4 against its wishes, there is an argument that it could have been given to best runner up ppg (Parkway). Personally think Street should have demoted to Western 1. They had no financial or ground grading issues. As for not enough volunteers, surely there isn’t much difference in running a step 5 or step 6 club?

Thankyou Richard,  could not remember their name (not near Swindon). With regard to the rest we will have to disagree - the FA have contravened all that was said by them at public meetings, by details circulated and past history of dealings with clubs.
