Whistle Blower Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Do any teams in the Trelawny League or Duchy League charge admission? Work took me into Devon so thought I'd take in a North Devon League game featuring adopted Cornish team Holsworthy (Reserves) and Kilkhampton. There are five divisions in the NDL: Premier, Senior, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Intermediate 3. This was an Intermediate 1 game and was stunned that they were charging £2 admission. As this was basically a "junior" game I thought I'd pose the question. For the record a mistake by the Kilk keeper after 28 seconds brought about the only goal in a poor game.
St Darren Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Didn’t think you could but you could ask for a donation
Titus Bramble Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 I think Nanpean we’re trying to charge in the first game of this season vs Newmoor in Duchy 4. I remember people moaning about it!
Paul Collings Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 I've been to most Duchy grounds over the last few years and never witnessed a charge at the gate, some clubs with the luxury of willing helpers make a collection and i'm always happy to chip in but sometimes i'm the only one outside of the dugouts !! When we as a league hold semi finals and finals we charge £2 (half a pint of lager) and always expect to get a few moans but not from people who can't afford it - just people who like to have a moan - i'm sure a few of you will be reading this now !!! Dave Deacon Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Doesn’t some of the issue come because the teams might be playing on public park pitches? Personally I don’t see any problems with charging - there’s still costs to be covered!

I remember people moaning about it! I got this when I went to watch that game. I said to the woman walking around shaking a money pot that I didn't want a raffle ticket, as I didn't know if I would still be there for the draw. Her response: Well I could of charged you £2 at the gate, but I didn't, so you can buy a raffle ticket. (along those lines) No, No you couldn't of charged on the gate. So after her having a little rant, I bought the ticket so she would just move on. So they weren't charging, but you had to buy a ticket or listen to someone rant at you for 10 minutes.
Martin Eddy Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Can understand why clubs go around with a tin or raffle, it’s an expensive job running a football club and fundraising is not getting any easier
hedgerow Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 I would not object to making a donation. Yes players pay, or should pay, subs. Match official(s) are not cheap either. Any contribution is a help, however small
Martin Eddy Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Whenever I go to a club always try to buy a cup of tea or something to eat before the game to help out. Rarely asked to pay as I run the line. When club's come to us you can tell the club's who work to raise funds, they all come to get refreshments to help us out
John Mead Posted April 26, 2019 Report Posted April 26, 2019 There's no restriction on any Club charging admission for spectators - regardless of the level at which they play! TheolderIgetthebetterIwas 1
TheolderIgetthebetterIwas Posted April 26, 2019 Report Posted April 26, 2019 I always pay either by donation or entry fee even at my own club. Football, contrary to popular belief...is not free! Officials...£30 Food for players and officials £10/15 Hot water/heating £10/15 Floodlights if needed £60

Surely, those who have the pleasure of watching should expect to put their hands in their pockets!? TheolderIgetthebetterIwas 1

Maybe I'm wrong. To be honest, would rather pay £2 to watch Nanpean than St Blazey these days. Also, I do know what is costs to run a football club in the Duchy League, being a manager myself. Just a bit harsh to charge people to watch the grassroots of grassroots. I agree with doing a collection on match days, no problem with that at all. But don't be forceful towards it. Keith B - Surely spectators paying for a beer is also helping the club out? No?
cornishteddyboy Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 Watching Pz Reserves in Trelawny 3, my way for paying is giving £5 for a cup of tea and bag of crisps with no change. I missed a couple of games so next game I put in £20. I class it as my subs to help pay for the referee.
