Club Statement.

Perranporth FC have parted company with first team manager Ben Mitchell.

Ben came in midway through the season at short notice to help the club when the former managers abruptly left.

The club would like to put on record our grateful thanks for Ben's hard work to help keep the club in the upper reaches of the Combination league.

However in the likely difficult times ahead, driven by the major reorganisation of the leagues structure in Cornwall, the clubs management Committee felt that a more experienced team manager is required.

Once again the club extends our grateful thanks to Ben with our very best wishes for the future.

I would like to make my own statement to end a lot of speculation I have seen on both the forum and social media.

Yesterday (Wednesday 18th) I received a phonecall from my assistant notifying me that he had been told the club was going to let me arrive at training that evening only to tell me that they will be relieving me of my duties. Not only that, but in a weekend where I wasn’t even in the country they had decided to reappoint Lee Denton until the end of the season on SUNDAY. I sent a text to the chairman Glen making him aware that I already know and would not be attending yesterday evening. Just to provide an idea of the pettiness of the club, they have removed me from their social media page and I quote “in case it kicked off”! I am yet to be contacted by any official at the club.

The above club statement would make sense if it came at the end of the season but with five games to go I believe it reads poorly. I have heard through the grapevine that the powers that be were not impressed at the lack of management presence at Saturday’s game, I was on a stag do that had been planned a long time and unfortunately the assistant manager Steve had to work at late notice. This left no management in the dugout however we felt there are enough senior players in that dressing room to be able to take themselves. I have also been made aware that they knew I was going to step down in the summer, so maybe this had a bearing?

Anyway, I would like to place on public record my thanks to Steve Maynard and Shelley Wort who have helped me massively in my first venture into management along with all the players that stuck by me when the original managers left and an exodus was widely expected. There is a great bunch of lads in that first team at Perranporth and I truly hope they go on to win the Combo one last time before the inevitable happens this summer.
