Russell Hall Cup

Penzance 3 - 3 Frogpool AET

Frogpool won 4-3 on penalties.

Epic game. no real bad tackles in the game. 1 Red, and i think 7 Yellows and 1 Sin bin.

Huge performance from us! Heavy pitch 10 men for 90 mins. 9 for 10 mins in ET.

Less said about the ref the better. could have been a different game. Controversial decisions to over rule Frogpool goal but same reason allowing Penzance goal. both sets of players very confused throughout.

Frogpool goals;

Kevin Smith 2

Mike Rollason

Rowan Hartgroves with the Sudden death Pen for frogs and Zak Granville saving the next from Penzance!

Half the Frogpool team in the end walking on eggshells. Put a foot wrong and we could have seen another player off.

Frogpool awarded two penalties during the game. 2-2 after 90mins, the 3-3 after 120.

We might have won if only our keeper hadn't decided he wasn't going to get wet diving into the mud. Stood still for every penalty. Never seen that before, it was if he was on strike!

I think both teams were walking on eggshells. Everything was being penalised.

horrendous conditions during the shootout at the end

Div 2

Illogan 3rds 2- 1 Falmouth DC

Played at Oxland park in the nice wet weather and a wind driving towards the clubhouse.

Illogan started with the wind behind them and played 4 up top to allow us to chase down every goal kick that barely went out of the penalty box and pile the pressure on with the wind.

Early pressure converted into a penalty opportunity when first time striker, Nathan Jeffree, was tackled unfairly in the box, up steps Illogan Captain, Aaron Richards, who shots down to the left and it well saved by the Falmouth Keeper...

10 minutes later after another save from the Falmouth Keeper, Aaron Richards takes a corner that curls (wind assisted) straight into the back corner and we are 1-0 up.

The wind meant the whole of the first half was spent in the Falmouth half, except for a couple of rare runs forward by a pinned in Falmouth Team.... somewhere in the second half saw Jason Rule take a strike from outside the area which did some crazy stuff before beating the Falmouth Keeper and we are 2-0 up....

With the wind we knew 2-0 at half time was probably not going to be enough and we were in for a tough second half...... we were not wrong.

Early in the second half Illogan concede a goal, direct from a freekick, which again looked like the ball was possessed infront of the keeper and went in 2-1....

Apart from that chance Illogan managed to keep Falmouth at bay and I think they may have had 1 or possibly two clear cut chances for the remainder of the half, the chances they had were easily dealt with by new illogan keeper, Jamie Jose, who joined us from Storm a few weeks ago to get in a few ore games as Storm finished their season early.

Created to the Illogan boys who dug in deep and showed some real character in the conditions when some of their opposition were asking to come off to go get changed, unfortunately it really was men against boys in those conditions and I am proud to say the Illogan boys really got out of the game what they put in.

Saturday sees us travel to bottom of the league Redruth United, who last week were unable to raise a side, a win on Saturday will push us away from the bottom and give us room to start working on things for next season.

Illogan team against Falmouth was -

Jamie Jose

Harry Mankee, Tom Lyth, Jon Ayres, John Paul Stevenson

Jason Rule, Aaron Richards, Jordan Richards, Corri Braymar

Gurpreeet Singh, Nathan Jeffree

Bench - Curtis Keen, Matt Doe, Keiran Symons, Sam Greenwood, Michael Barrett
