Combination League Results

One sole Penzance supporter arrived at Bickland Park, full of hope but knowing that a depleted Magpies side would have a hard job against a Falmouth side looking to extend a 2 match winning streak.

Penzance only had one sub today and played with 3 16 year olds. Falmouth even had the luxury of having 1st teamer Wayne Brown at the back and a bench full of substitutes.

The crowd saw a good game on a pitch that held up well after all the rain we've had.

The game started with Falmouth spending the first ten minutes camped in the Penzance half. From as early as the 2nd minute a Falmouth player blasts the ball over the top and within those ten minutes four shots had ranged in on the Pz goal. Damien Norman, the Pz keeper dealt with two and the others went over the bar.

After Pz had soaked up this pressure they had their first meaningful break, working up the pitch from a series of throw-ins. They then try to get into the Falmouth box but the attack breaks down.

For the next twenty minutes the game is fairly even Falmouth still get their shots in compared to Pz. In the seventeenth minute Damien makes a fine fingertip save diving to his left to tip the ball around the post for a corner which comes to nothing.

Penzance again work the ball down the pitch but Shane Rowe playing upfront for Penzance couldn't finish off the move.

Penzance finally put a good move together in the twenty-sixth minute and only a fine save at his near post from Falmouth keeper Paul Wolstencroft prevents a Matthew Fox shot from 10yds blasting in. The ball is quickly kicked upfield where Luke Wort breaks through the middle to put the ball wide of Penzance keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Usually when they go down Penzance's head drop but this time they don't but try as they might for the next tem minutes they have their backs to the wall. On forty-one minutes Falmouth have another corner on their left. They float the ball in and only a brilliant Damien Norman diving save tips the ball around the post for another corner. This time he pushes the shot around for a third corner which is wasted.

H-T

Falmouth start the 2nd half as they did the 1st strait at Penzance's throats for the killer goal. In the fourty-seventh minute Ashley Thomas breaks clear for Town, but the Penzance keeper rushes out and he puts the ball just wide. Penzance break down the other end, get a corner but waste it.

After 51mins Falmouth could have doubled their lead as a ball crosses the Penzance box but the player fluffs it and shoots wide from 20yds out.

Penzance are forced to use their substitute in the 55min when Mike Burt gets an injury to the back of the knee and is helped off. He is replaced by Adam Thomas, Ashley Thomas' brother.

Two minutes later Falmouth the Penzance off-side trap and Luke Work beats the advancing keeper with a low shot into the net. Falmouth then substitute a player. 2-0 to Town on fifty-eighth minutes.

Penzance come back at Falmouth. A corner is flicked on by Mark Grenfell, but Shane Rowe blasts just wide. Penzance then work down their left but a ball put across the Falmouth goalmouth goes begging. Falmouth break straightaway and put a shot wide.

Ashley Thomas has another chance to increase the Town score on seventy-four minutes but kicks wide from 3yds out whilst under pressure.

The game becomes end to end but on eighty-nine minutes Falmouth get another when they break down their right, cross the ball and Luke Wort shoots past a diving Damien.

F-T

Falmouth Town - Paul Wolstencroft, Chris Peck, Wayne Brown, Dave Rawlings, Matt Roberts, Duncan Gillett, Nathan Radbone, Ashley Thomas, Bobby Bryant, Bryn Wheeler, Luke Wort.

Subs - Ian Grant, Dean Thomas, Steve Hurst, Tom Thorpe.

Penzance - Damien Norman, Jack Liddicoat, Mike Burt, Mark Grenfell ©, Zak Podd, Sean George, Matthew Fox, Shane Rowe, Danny Michael, Sam Long, Alfie Turner.

Sub - Adam Thomas (for Mike Burt 55mins)

Penzance never looked like scoring many especially with a weakened team and Falmouth controlled the game for long periods.

Total corner count was 7-4 (6-1 1st half) to Falmouth. Crowd was 31 not including officials, etc. The one Pz supporter made sure he was heard!!

Men of the match for Penzance. Damien Norman for his 2 or 3 saves that kept the Magpies in the game, Alfie Turner who was here, there and everywhere trying to get the team going and finally Sean George who completed his first full 90mins of the season. He ran himself out and for the last 10minutes was a virtual spectator as he was so puffed out.

Spoke to Reg pearson, Final score was Port 2-2 Aggie.

This post is on behalf of Reg who asked me to do this;

"I would just like to apologise for my red card today as what i did was completly out of character and i regret what happened. That was only my second ever card in all football, my first coming 2 weeks ago against Truro. Sorry again to the lads, but you played better with 10 men and deserved to win in the second half.

Not a very good debut lol"

Mullion 0-2 Hayle res C Bullock 2

A very scrappy game which i think over the 90 min we deserved to win a long ball out of defence Chris Bullock gambled beat the fullback to the ball and lobbed the keeper from edge of 18 yard box a great finnish the second came through good work from Andy Withers down the right and he hit a low hard cross that found Chris Bullock at the back post to put us 2 up that way it stayed till halftime.

The second half Mullion came back well and put us under pressure and Graham Gilbert in our goal pulled off a few good saves to keep us ahead in the game we created some chances ourselves in the second half but the game finnished 2-0 to us and another 3points in the bag.

The game was played in good spirit and good luck to mullion for rest of season. :drink::drink::drink::drink::drink: :drink:

Ludgvan 0-5 Illogan

Very poor 1st half never getting going unfortunately.

2nd half, one way traffic and an early goal from Ryan Cooper settling everyone down to start playing much better football with further goals from Josh Kemp, Craig Williams, Gareth Pitt, Jason Roberts and another from Ryan Cooper. Could have been more but did enough and yet another clean sheet.

Message to cornishteddyboy (well and anyone else interested in hearing the local results) ..... if you ever need the results on a Saturday in future, all you have to do is listen in to BBC Radio Cornwall from 5.30pm onwards.

They are obtained from the League themselves and so are accurate - we even had one of the League's most respected characters on the programme yesterday - Perranwell's manager Dave Fisher.
