Div 2

Ruan minor 5 new Inn 3

Good game new Inn leading 2-3 at halftime but ruan were much better 2nd half 3 of there goals coming from penalties today..must admit they have some very tidy players alongside Gavin perraton who I believe has just left a combo side making his debut today. definitely frogpool or ruan to win div 2 now..some very tidy players in the league this season

Madron 1 - 4 Constantine reserves

A weird one this from a madron point of view. We had all the chances in the second half but just couldn't put the ball in the net and Constantine scored 3 counter attacking goals.

Injury to our gk with 30 minutes to go wasn't helpful either.

Some strange scenes at the end. Constantine celebrating like they had just beat man Utd to win the fa cup.

Guess there isn't a lot to celebrate on Constantine?

Thanks for the Constantine boys who came and sampled our lovely beer and food.

Div. 1

Newlyn Non Athletico 0 (0) -vs- (3) 4 Wendron Thirds

A dreary, damp day down in West Cornwall. Soft pitch, but recently cut grass. The away team, after travelling down from Birkenhead overnight for this away fixture, were slower out the blocks than the home team. Newlyn looked sharp, and for a few minutes at least, had good possession. But it was short lived as a quick break away by the away side ended up with Steve Heighway crossing for John Toshack to smash home the first goal. They never looked back really. With the sound of the Pirates being cheered on in the background (that's the local rugby team for those from outside the county), Newlyn worked hard, but were met with stiff resistance, Tommy Smith shining in the heart of the away defence. A second goal followed when a long ball cut through the Newlyn defence, and Ray Kennedy nodded the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 0-2. Newlyn forced a free kick out wide, and having delivered the ball into the area, a bit of a scramble ended up with the ball in the back of the net. But the joy was short lived as the offside flag was raised. More work from both teams failed to create too many clear chances until a few minutes before halftime, when a scramble at the other end ended up with another Heighway cross for Peter Cormack to hit home. A bit tough on the home team, but 0-3 at half time.

Second half was much the same, both teams battling it out. Newlyn had a great chance from a corner when a point blank header was brilliantly saved by Ray Clemence, and shortly after, super-sub David Fairclough pounced on a defensive lapse to make it 0-4 to the visitors. There was still time for another Newlyn goal to be wiped out for offside, but at the end of the day, a strong performance by Wendron and a deserved three points to take back up the M6. Safe journey home guys.

Great show from halsetown today. Made the effort to get a side together and did well. Tough conditions and wouldn’t fancy it down there again this season. Good to see people stepping in and helping when a team is in need. Well done to the manager.

Penryn wish them all the best for the season

Div 3

Praze 3-1 St Erme (0-1 HT)

With 1st v 3rd and 2nd v 4th in div 3 today, nothing less than 3 points was needed for praze and that exactly was the case, after turning the game around.

St Erme started off well, causing praze a few problems with some good phases of play. They took the lead 30 mins in from a previous shot blocked, falling to the centre midfielder on the top of the 18 yard line, drilling through two players and past the stand in keeper for today James Durbin.

Praze missed a numerous amount of chances to get themselves back into the game, misses coming from all three front men, but trailed 1-0 going into HT.

St Erme changed a few things around for the second half, but it proved the wrong decision as Praze were able to control the second half and eventually level through a header from a corner on 55 ish minutes.

Goals second and third coming from sloppy plays from the away defensive line and the praze strikers taking full advantage.

Referee had an average game, blew up for some unnecessary things but let the game flow as much as possible. Special mention to the lad who popped his shoulder out in a 50-50, hope he's all okay.

Good to see Elliot Jolly still playing, nice lad and even at the tender age of 37, he's a very good player. Shame the result didn't go his way and he also failed to score today, must of been the defence keeping him quiet 😆

Thanks for coming back to the pub for food and we'll see you at your place next week 👍

Dead heat at the top of our table at the moment, with Perranwell having a slight advantage of having scored 92 goals to Praze's 90. Otherwise games played, wins, etc both equal.

2 Praze 19 14 2 3 63 44
3 Frogpool & Cusgarne Reserves 19 12 3 4 48 39
4 Rosudgeon Reserves 18 12 2 4 34 38
5 St Erme 20 11 2 7 42 35
6 Holman Sports Club Reserves 18 10 2 6 16 32
7 St Buryan Reserves 18 8 2 8 6 26
8 St Agnes Thirds 19 8 0 11 -15 24

I was not there but when you are having a season like we are and struggling every week to get 11 players out for two teams when you get a win it’s worth celebrating

Perhaps you could contact the Trelawny league to see if this band of invading Vikings from grim North exceeded the non-Cornish player quota? It’s about time the scourge of Football for All was finally stamped out in the Cornish grassroots football, maybe we could run pre-match scone making tests? Or a Cornish heritage questionnaire prior to kick off??

Premier

Troon 2-3 Holman SC

Not the greatest advertisement for local football as both sides who were maybe not exactly overjoyed to be playing each other for a 2nd week in a row with unbelievably a 3rd one programmed in for next week in the Dunn Cup I think we are just rebranding February ‘Troon Month’. The away sides unbeaten start to 2019 continued mainly down to Kyle Hampton taking his two chances to give the visitors a 0-2 lead which should have put the game to bed but credit to the home side and a bit of dodgy defending they dragged themselves level with 15min to go 2-2. Luckily (for us) a 3rd goal for Holmans gave us the 3 points.

Fair write up to be fair, appreciate the kind words aswell, however  I feel my lack of goals in the game was down the fact I was marked by two defenders most of the game  - A compliment I’ll take!! 😜👍🏻

Think the game turned in Praze’s favour when we lost our CB to injury who was playing well, he had his shoulder popped back in on Saturday evening and is on the mend, this did definitely unsettle us to be honest and add to that a dubious offside goal that would’ve put us 2-0 and maybe have put the game to bed.

Fair play to Praze though who put us under serious pressure and got the result in the end, a great battling performance from the Saints but just wasn’t to be, part 2 and 3 of this trilogy will take place over the next two Saturday’s and so we’ll become quite familiar!! 🤣
