SWPL Cup - Wednesday 23 January 2019

Recommended Posts

Didn’t see Falmouth winning this game before it started and to be fair it was not the best standard of game for the neutral. St Austell very poor. Falmouth defended well especially James ward and the right back he was full of energy all night. Duff and Broglino ran the midfield and always helps having a striker with the talent of Jordan annear upfront.

Well done Falmouth! Honestly saw the hopes of retaining the cup possibly disappearing but they beat Snoz en route to the final last year.

Make or break is how the local paper described the coming weeks. Whatever the outcome of the other games the worst that can happen is semi finals and some prize money but why settle for that? The Cup is there to be won. Up the Town! 👍

Good to see Matt Buchan come on in final minutes, returning from injury.

Not a great game for the purist, awful bobbly pitch making passing and first touch a lottery. Disappointing to see so many long balls but both teams reticent to try and play from the back and opted for the safe haven of the other end of the pitch! Good chance for Eddy in the first half, excellent first touch but blazed over whilst at the other end, Falmouth struck the post, 0-0 HT. Second half not much better, with Annear getting the decisive goal following a good square ball from Nixon. St Austell pushed for an equaliser but with no real clear chances created, ultimately came up short. Overall, a poor game lacking in any real quality that could've gone either way, but Falmouth go through.

Struggled when Annear wasn’t there and now pick up a great result when he’s back!!!

Is he back full time or just to help out??

Have already heard from a good source that he's finding it hard playing for Parkway and travelling up the M5 every other week (even more so when he’s on the bench).

Also heard a reunion at former club Porthleven is on the cards as they look to push for promotion and I’m sure they could more than match Falmouths ££.

Agree Falmouth struggle without a striker of that talent. But any team would. Can’t see him leaving Plymouth parkway this season and especially for a team in lower league. Would imagine Tiverton would still be sniffing around. Nick hurst and river Allen could even put a word in up Truro and get the young lad in up there.

Not many points scored in the Prediction league last night!

Well done to the Town. Deserved the result on the night.  Have to echo the comment made about Ryan Martt.  A very under-estimated player who always puts in a big shift and stops the opposition from playing through the middle. Much-improved on the ball this year as well.

Up the Town!!!

Ward was outstanding at the back for Falmouth, who deservedly went through on the night. Another return for Phil Lafferty on the cards in the Summer? St.Austell missing Martin 'Gina G' Giller has dented their solidarity at the back.

Who is "Gina G" playing for now?

Really surprised the was an issue with the pitch at St Austell  ?

Working on the principle they were slating Exmouth Towns pitch at half time on twitter last Saturday, I thought it must be like a sloping billiard table.  UTT

Did they play on it last Saturday?

Wrecked if they did.

We're still putting pivots back in, 4 days that is now.

The pitch was liquefied in places, the worst damage you can have.

Strange as it seems a guts full of rain would do it the world of good!

Not looking good for Saturday at the moment.

Heard the same also that Phil Lafferty is being lined up for a return.

The same person who is extremely well connected with the club informed me that they are also looking at a Manager who currently has Martin Giles playing for him.

Absolute Tosh .... Giles is still at the club and No way would Lafferty take the job. He’s way too busy and very rarely gets to see a game at Poltair or anywhere else.

Not quite sure where you get your information ????
