David Bray
The first time since we re-joined the South West Counties Championship back in 1994 that a County has cancelled on us due to lack of players, does not auger well for the future of Under 18 Representative football. Tommy Matthews
Wow! That’s poor! Just goes to show that the apathy that some continue to discuss on this forum exists elsewhere. We can take some comfort in the knowledge that Glynn and his coaches could probably raise two teams here in Cornwall and that representing your county still means everything to some players. Paul
I would hope that any Wiltshire player who pulled out is never given the chance to play again. Dont reward them by letting them play a home fixture for example.
We Two
What a discusting attitude to take having been given the opportunity to represent your county. Our beautiful game no longer seems beautiful any more with that attitude by the so called future of the game. Leehh
Tommy Matthews
The issue for some is pressure from club managers who don’t want them to play. It’s very difficult for a 17 year old to stand up to their manager when pressed to play for their club. It only happened to me a couple of times but one manager of a club was incredibly disparaging of county youth football when he rang me to say his player wasn’t going to be available. Nowadays your club can’t postpone a game when two or more players are chosen for their county as those rules are now governed by the FA’s step system rather than county FA’s I’m not saying this is the case but I’m simply suggesting what could also be going on. Very sad because the standard is very high and ask anyone who’s played for their county and they’ll tell you how much they enjoyed it.
