Dobwalls v Porthleven 22/12

Recommended Posts

Watched the above match yesterday, very dissapointed with leaders Porthleven who never really got going. Portleven very lucky to go to the break level after gaining a soft penalty with not much contact on the big centre half who went down very easily. When Portleven went down to 10 men early in the second half it never looked like that there would score. Morgan with a good goal on his debut led the line well. Next up for Dobwalls Liskeard on Boxing Day, Liskeard the best team I've seen in that division this season should be a tougher test for Dobwalls, promises to be an interesting game.

Watched this one too.Dobwalls got stuck in from the whistle and that seemed to rattle Porthleven who never really got into their stride.Tornado missed a couple of sitters which could have made all the difference.Surprise of the day was watching Danny Ohagan turn out for Porthleven complete with face mask ! (recent nose op I gather) Even bigger surprise was seeing him sent off for dissent !

Was a surprise to me monsoon! Got a yellow for clipping a players heel only said to the ref that’s shocking to him twice then he gives me another yellow and sends me off! Worst referee I’ve seen in a long time!! Didn’t swear at him or anything like that!! Still confused about the decision now! Only my second red card in 27 years of playing men’s football......I’ve left Bodmin just to play every week! 👍

That's all I heard you say but thought I might have missed something. Not the worse referee I've seen , but definitely not one of the better ones. Seemed to loose control for 10 mins midway in the 2nd half. Better team won on the day.

Did not fancy returning to Newquay ? But at the end of the day it's all playing playing football. Good luck at Porthleven

I’ve talked to Macca at newquay a lot since I left to join Bodmin but Alan wanted me badly at Porthleven and I know a lot of the players there so was a easy choice! I’ve heard a lot of swearing at ref’s and at the lines men  this season from players but nothing is done about it so why I got a 2nd yellow and sent off for saying that’s shocking is beyond me!! Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m not that kind of player who abuse’s the ref all game......totally gutted!

Think you may find that in the rule book, the first was a foul and the second was for dissent, two yellow cards = a red card, that's the rule.
Consistency is another matter and is an isssue that will raise its ugly head on a regular basis.      Players regularly and sincerely state that they only use foul language in the heat of the moment, and that it is not something that should be taken seriously.
It is however offensive to many and should be punished as it is in another different shaped ball game.
Players it seems can claim to have reacted to "the heat of the moment " maybe we should allow referees the same excuse, bearing in mind the abuse aimed at them from all directions.
The bottom line is that rules are there to be adhered to by all participants, including the referee, and should not be cherry picked by anyone.

All the best Danny. Would of liked to of seen you stay at Bodmin but can totally understand your reasonings for leaving. To know you will be playing Every week in your favoured position, plus Porthleven's match expenses offer to you, we can completely understand why you have moved on. Will be seeing you next season when the league's merge.

If saying that’s shocking to the ref is classed as decent and deserves a yellow I think that is ridiculous in my opinion.......thanks Leeds love Bodmin and everyone at the club but just want to play every week...catch up with you next season!! 👍

That's the point, it wasn't seen as decent by the ref he classed it as dissent .    From whatever viewpoint you look at it, It's the inconsistency that is causing a problem.

Sorry we two about the spelling trying to text while doing a million things on Christmas Eve 🤣 just glad most ref’s have common sense......or there would be a lot more yellow cards and sending off’s!! Have a good Christmas everyone! 👍

There is a point thats worth noting, and that is that no one is immune from making mistakes, including refs.    Some incidents on the field of play that go unpunished, make your dissent look rather trivial in comparison.
Maybe in the season of goodwill we can say the ref reacted "in the heat of the moment" something we can all plead guilty to, and referees are no exception.  👍

Refereeing is a tough job and one I would not like to do......but if saying thats shocking will get you a yellow card then I might as well retire now!! I’ve played football along time now and seen a lot of ref’s at all different levels bad and good but unfortunately I think On  sat it had a lot to do with who I am and not a lot to do with what I did or said on the pitch! The ref I’ve never had him before but from my first tackle he gave 90% of things against me all game till he sent me off!  Fact!!  Bit angry about it now!!

I have to back Danny on this. From the whistle the ref seemed to have it in for him.At one stage a Dobwalls player had his arm/elbow across Danny's throat but the ref gave the kick to Dobwalls, should have been a yellow. When other players gobbed off at the ref he did nothing about it.

Anyone who knows Danny as a great bloke or a footballer who’s had a brilliant career knows he can look after himself on the pitch but also takes it as well without whinging at referees. An old school player if you like. Still loves playing the game and is as dedicated as he ever was. Sounds as if the ref overeated with the two yellows but as we all agree a tough job and fair play to all the men in black. I know rules are rules and laws etc blah blah but the best refs I’ve encountered over the years are the ones who interact with the players, treat them like adults and use a bit of common sense as every match is different regardless of rule A1: 23 bc blah! Anyway merry Xmas everyone 🤶(there’s a song there!)

Don t say anything, you'll stay on the field problem solved. No ref needs your opinion

Rappo, you weren't a bad referee!

Haha 😆 to be honest Fanfare i quite enjoyed the dozen or so ‘proper’ games I reffed. Not sure an assessor would have marked me too highly though! I hardly ever blew my whistle! Just went into games thinking no one is here to see a ref, they’re here to play and watch a game of football so used to try and stay in the background until there was a bad foul!!! Never issued a card! Got to be honest I forgot them one Sunday league match I did!! I was no Howard Webb! 👓🎅🏼

Should it have really been a surprise to you, Danny, given what had been happening in the previous 10-15 minutes ?

After conceding  a second shortly after the break, Porth were  becoming increasingly frustrated with play not going their way, making rash challenges and late tackles all over the pitch  and when duly penalised, the ref was being subjected to a barrage of verbal challenges, some of it interlaced with foul language which was audible throughout the ground, for which he issued warnings.

Your two yellows were the cumulation of all that ill-discipline and back-chat , which the ref could no longer ignore. Obviously there was no malice in your challenge or in your reaction to the ref, it was just bad timing. Maybe if you hadn`t repeated yourself it may have been overlooked ?

right side you hit the nail on the head that is why I was surprised to receive a second yellow for saying that’s shocking with all the foul language being used by other players all first half and second and nothing done about it by the man in the middle......every player on the pitch was shocked to see me get sent off that tells it’s own story......but I’ll take the one match ban on the chin and hope that will be the first and last time that referee does one of my games....have a good Christmas everyone 😊

You've already said who you are, and some people know you from I suppose more illustrious days.

I don't, I just thought it a bit pretentious that you thought everyone knows you, and the referee chose to penalise you for who you are, as he may well not know you either.

Thanks for the chat.

Think people should give Danny a break here, he is a good guy, who just loves playing football & put something back in to the game. He still has a lot to offer hence someone of Alan Carey's managerial stature knocking at his door & offering him a Fantastic Package to join Porthleven Football Club in the West Division. Bodmin can totally understand for his reasons for moving on . Good luck Danni

And your two posts mentioning remuneration makes him look like a mercenary.

There was no need to mention that at all, it looks like sour grapes because Bodmin couldn't match it.

Alan's stature as a manager is the same as all the other big names in Cornish football...manage with a cheque book.

And that is football from the premier league down to our fish and chips standard, looks like the bank has dried up a bit at Bodmin.

Football at all levels is full of mercenaries, from the Premiership down to grassroots.  Very few play for the shirt any more, rather for the monetary returns and they are available to the highest bidder.
We can't comment on whether this is the case in Danny Os case as we don't know the fella, but even if that was so, he would only be one of many who follow the bank roll and doesn't deserve to be singled out .
We agree with Older, the reference to renumeration was totally irrelevant to a post that certainly appeared to have a tinge of sour grapes in it.

Maybe Bodmin couldn't match it, maybe Danny wanted more Game time, my point was that if someone of Alan Carey's managerial status offered Danny the opportunity to play more in his preferred position then can completely understand his decision to move on. You will not make comments on here in hope hope of ruining relationship with Danny.

Danny has moved on, he is getting paid very well, he will have more game time & bitterly disappointed to see him leave Bodmin. End of !

However, more game time at Danny's stage of his playing days and if there is a little help financially - makes sense doesn't it!

Ruining your relationship with the fella?

Get real buddy, you're doing that. Unbelievably you mentioned money again!

I've seen him play, and spoken to him before, nice enough bloke. Stop embarrassing him possibly I would say.

My last post on it.

"that's shocking ref" clearly is dissent. Shut your mouth and you wouldn't get booked. Rugby players aren't saints but they don't show dissent. Get over it.

Definitely dissent by definition. But is the issue with the referee on this occasion for following the lawbook... Or the other referees in the majority of games that do not caution for it?

As a regular assistant on SWPL games... I find the crap some of the referees "manage" to be ridiculous. I personally think that it's about time referees dealt with dissent and abusive language at that level... It will shock a few people when they actually start doing so (if they start) mind you. But, whilst they're allowed to get away with it at the top, it'll never latch on in the lower league's.

With regards to Danny O, I've lined on a few games in which he's featured in and been in the middle reffing a few times as well and I would agree with the majority on this thread. Always been good natured with a competitive streak.

It is dissent, but it's mild in definition compared to most acts you see, which often go unpunished.

The problem is that I don’t think it’ll ever happen across the board Dave.

A handful tried a couple of seasons ago and stopped when they found their markings were suffering!

I think it’s more the inconsistency of the referee on the day rather than different referees which was more the problem.

Not in the new premier divisions. Only at step 7 and below (West)
