Been a while since I visited 'The Mill' so was very impressed with the work done by Torpoint Athletic on their ground improvements.

Thank you for your hospitality on a very cold evening.

All the best for the season.

No problem Nick, thank you for your kind comments.

It was a cracker of a match!

Tuesday 30th October
SWPL Premier Division
Torpoint Athletic 3-3 Elburton Villa

The visitors came back from a 3-1 deficit,  to get a point at The Mill on a chilly evening with the spoils shared.

The home side opened the scoring on the 12th minute when Paul Heveran hit a 25 yard bullet that went straight into the top corner.

Two minutes later in form striker Luke Cloke scored from the edge of area after Scott Blatchford laid on a neat pass onto Cloke.

Seven minutes before the break, Nick Aplin scored from the penalty spot after a foul in the area.

Just after the hour mark, Scott Blatchford turned from provider to Scorer when he headed in a Paul Heveran cross from 6 yards.

Torpoint then went on to pile on the pressure on to the cross Tamar visitors to try and get a forth and to put the game out of sight, with good long range chances from Gary Hird, Darren Hicks and Paul Heveran who hit the crossbar from 25 yards.

On the 79th minute, the visitors reduce the arrears when Robbie Mann shot home from 25 yards.

With the home side on the back foot, Sam Carter equalised five minutes from time with a header from a corner to set up a grandstand finish, with both sides searching for a winner the referee called time.

Comical moment at Sticker v Newquay. Two players got tetchy with each other, squared up tried to butt heads and both simultaneously went down rolling around in a great piece of terrible acting. The Newquay player was sent off.

Newquay scored two good almost identical goals after Bobby Hopkinson hit the bar with an angled free kick. A penalty just before half time narrowed the deficit but Sticker couldn't find enough to get the equaliser that merited their performance.

Bizarrely the referee called time after only 42 minutes of the second half. He must have been cold!❄️

Don't imagine the Newquay supporters thought it quite so comical when their man was sent off !
Poor sportsmanship by both parties we're told, but unfortunately that seems to be the order of the day at present.

Forgot to also mention how much the Newquay players berated the match officials in this game. Calling for decisions that simply weren't there. "We'll have that referee. Referee. Referee" one of the defenders shouted as play continued. This sadly is symptomatic of the modern game. Sticker too were called out on it a few weeks ago and their bench were extremely vocal at the officials after the rutting non-event but a message for all teams is let the officials do their job without squealing at them for every decision that doesn't go the way you think it should.

The laughter that greeted the incident would suggest otherwise. I missed the original tackle that preceded the locking of horns but as they both went in and fell down at the same time both should have been received the same punishment.

Newquay much the better side over the 90 minutes. Playing some excellent football in periods. The penalty for Sticker was very soft and knocked Newquay out of their stride, making the game a lot closer than it should have been

Think it was the Newquay right back that got sent off. Dont know his name. Another strange decision by the ref

Harry Tilson sent off,how can you have 2 offenders and only one sent off?

Was the sending off for the attempted rutting, the rubbish playacting or the tackle that started it? But then again originally it was a free kick to Sticker then it was Newquay. I don't know.

Seems  like the referee was in two minds and used both of them to reach a very confused decision. ?

One item we must mention about Sticker, although the fantastic facilities and pitch condition has been mentioned many times by players and spectators alike, the man mainly  responsible for the accolades, was himself recognised last night when he was presented with the first prize groundsman award for the league.
A well deserved feather in the cap of Clive Julian who has put his village on the map of football grounds to appreciate, ahead of Launceston in second place and Tavistock third .
A fantastic acheivement for such a tiny club, well done from us !!

Totally agree. And with all three stands in place, they have seats and standing available under cover, more than some more established clubs!

Always look forward to reffing there. CCFA have recently had some County Cup Finals played there.

Chris Osbourne always made a point of welcoming the Match Officials.

Considering the size of the town, this club has top quality facilities .

I,m pretty sure Sticker is only a village,Dave.

Village it is, according to Wikipedia 450 homes and a population of 1150.        Punching above their weight to even be in the prem, but speak to any involved with the setup of the club, and they will all tell you that money is always invested in facilities for players and spectators alike, but not on brown envelopes.
