Holsworthy v Ludgvan on Saturday called OFF as Ludgvan unable to raise a side

When will the penny drop? As I've said before there is too much football! It's almost all year round and people have other things they need to do with their famillies. League matches should start in September and finish in April. The number of teams in a league should be adjusted accordingly. Less is more!!!!!

In this case its not just about "too much football" with so many of last season's squad who finished runners-up leaving to play elsewhere!

There's only 15 teams in their division as it is!

If it wasn't Ludgvan it would be someone else Dave. There are just not enough players to go around, especially as it's still the cricket season. It's also a pity that the behaviour of players on the pitch is such a poor advert for the game. Eventually the penny will drop and changes will be made.

Ludgvan have asked a lot of new player ‘to step up’ who will not be use to the rigours of long journeys, especially on Bank Holidays. Bottom line is that there are not enough players in the far west who have the ability, desire and / or commitment for SWPL football for the number of teams.

Ludgvan will no doubt be fined and docked points, but as a neutral I really hope they can get player support and struggle through until they regroup - no one wants to see another team drop out of ‘Step’ football.

Paying players will always cause problems both to the ones who pay the big money ( until it runs out, then their players run out too ) and to the rest who either don't have the money to pay big wages, or have more sense and invest in the club and their supporters facilities.
Supporting a club and having a feeling that your support is appreciated will always go down well with us, but as Leeds has suggested " who cares about the support as long as there is a trophy in the cabinet' ' if that attiude is prevelant in the league, it's no wonder so many clubs are struggling to exist.
Regarding Ludgvan, we don't know the circumstances that caused their players to leave, but we wish them good luck with recruiting players in the near future.

Sad times another club on the verge of folding, no loyalty anymore and to the players who left from last seasons squad for an extra couple quid a game should be ashamed

Think you are being harsh on the players that have been at Ludgvan for many seasons. They moved from Trelawny Prem to a competitive Combo side for 3/4 years and then runners up in SWPL Div 1 West last season.

Always a tough ask to keep players/team together for such a long time and stay competitive.

Some players have moved on to other clubs in the local area, yes you maybe right for a few quid but that’s the name of the game now like it or not. Happens from the top down, money talks.

Other players have dropped back to combo due to work, family, traveling etc and some players have decided to stop playing altogether.

I hope Ludgvan don’t fold as they are an excellent club with amazing facilities and would be a loss to the league.

Hopefully they can raise a team for the rest of the season and maybe drop back to combo next season.

In that case it must be an internal situation within the club that Ludgvan must sort out themselves.  It appears that they have now had to call off the Mousehole game, so travel is not the issue.

People make out Holsworthy is on the scottish boarders with the long trip on a bank holiday nonsense. Any excuse these days.

Will be interesting to see of this excuse is still in play next season. Or will a Bank Holiday weekend trip from West to East or North Cornwall be considered too much?

Depends upon which division Holsworthy are in next season. If they don't make it into a Step 6 League, they'll be playing in Devon!

Depends on which clubs make up the new Step 7 divisions. It may well be easier to link Holsworthy with Cornish clubs than linking them with Plymouth area ones, for instance.

Think you will find that the proposed Cornish Step 7 will be exclusively for Clubs affiliated to Cornwall FA.

I wonder if any Duchy or Trelawny clubs might bypass the ECPL or Combination and apply straight for the new Step 7 Cornwall League?

We have been told it is possible if not enough clubs from those two league want to take the leap but I don't think it will happen, unless they are a reserve side of an existing SWPL side that their facilities will be up to scratch.

I know of at least one possible that might be considering and not SWPL reserve side.

First things first and let’s hope the FA get moving to communicate the final hiccup regarding compulsory promotion!

Time for all clubs and teams now to know what next season could hold in store for them!

At the end of the SWPL AGM, when it was open to others, the FA Spokesman clearly stated that with two step six leagues in Devon & Cornwall, that the Devon League would be compulsory  promotion (refusal would be relegation) whilst the Cornwall league would be voluntary.

It was at this point that the FA Reps were caught in a hail of bullets and then started to back down, with a member of their team coming forward (with a white flag) and saying that what we had just been told was not true, the speaker had got it wrong as it would only be applying to step 5 and above.

The FA seem to be a bit like Laurel and Hardy - 'another fine mess you have got me into':SM_carton:

This ought to be a subject on its own on this site, it has such ramifications for all clubs in the two counties.

Let’s hope the FA get a shift on and get something out soon. Time is ticking and clubs deserve to know exactly what next season will look like for each of them.

Don't know if you know this, but it rains in England from September to April NON-STOP!
